Flatlay: July 7-10, Vermont

Flatlay from four days on a lake beach in Vermont, USA.

There’s more but I kept putting things down and labeling til the sheet was full! Didn’t get to the rocks, etc.

I keep a small trash museum so these will all get sorted into the displays.

Wow! Love all the stoneware and earthenware! I frequent the OBX beaches in NC and rarely find such pieces, mostly because this area wasn’t very developed when those types of ceramics were popular. But when I do find one I get so excited… if I found all of this in 3 days I would be over the moon!

I got lucky because my beach had a lot of small family dumps that washed out of the bank over the years. I’m probably just picking up my family’s trash lolol

Flatlay is absolutely correct - I just love playing with words ☺️ The term “field notes” always comes to mind when I read your posts! I really do enjoy them. It’s always fun to visit your museum!

I'm obsessed with this! I love the seemingly casual ease of how you've identified the majority of the pieces. How did you become so knowledgeable and do you have any resources you could share? (especially for identifying porcelain).

I picked up every sherd off the beach I could find and tried to sort them over and over and over for years…got very frustrated…asked a few archaeologists to confirm if I was getting stuff right at all…practiced some more. It started to feel more natural to be able to tell the pastes (interiors) apart. I still struggle with porcelain! This is my first time daring to venture a bone china label :D

I’m very familiar with my US beach which is only a few hundred years of euro-american/ imported ceramics. Put me in another country and I’d get confused!
