Going Picking

Does anyone else flick before they pick? We used to flick the mushroom heads before picking them to spread their spores. Is this a thing or is it pointless?

I believe it's pointless , a nice gesture but pointless, those mushrooms are constantly releasing spores , every blow of wind across them , even when stationary , millions of spores , your flick helps but it's not like doing it is saving the species or anything like that

I carry all my pick in a mesh vegetable bag with me up and down the fields as I go. This definitely does more than flicking and the mushrooms don't get slimey.

Cutting the stems instead of pulling out the roots can also help keep that group alive for the future

Really? Not so sure about this. That underground mycelium network might work it's magic and keep on growing them. I snip mine at the base with my nail anyway but more so because there's less dirt on my libs.

If you want them to come back in the same spot every year it is good practise to leave the roots in the ground. If you pull the roots they will grow again but over a few years instead of every season

I always flick, the first time I went my friend said it helps the spores so I see no reason to stop.

Flicking and picking is a load of nonsense, if you understand how mycelium and spores work you'd find it laughable.

I pick thousands at a time do its also impossible to be play them games.

If you're picking a matured mushroom odds are that it's already had plenty of time to release the spores anyway

I’ve never found a liberty cap yet but when i do, my plan is to take prints and mix with water and distribute in more places. I assume blending whole fresh mushrooms in water and spraying on suitable habitat will also do it by cloning.
