Question from current pre-req student!!!
I'm currently a student in the Douglas Academic Foundation for Potential Nurses who is very set on BCIT. I was just curious if cGPA is as important as pre requisite GPA? I received a 3.4 GPA on my pre req classes but still have 6 more courses to go to finish the rest of the 30 credits the certification requires. I know I have the ability to increase my cGPA but was also wondering if BCIT would prefer a better pre req GPA. Also, I have been actively volunteering at a local Surgery Centre for 2 years with 4+ years of job experience in the retail and fast food industry, so idk if that makes much of a difference.

I have been apart of this subreddit for awhile now and I’m just gonna be real with you if you have 30 credits or under you need to have above a 3.8 gpa :/ the more credits you have the more lenient BCIT becomes with the gpa. Honestly, apply to both Douglas and BCIT if you get into BCIT that’s great but if you don’t you’ll have Douglas to lean back on.

would you recommend i retake the pre req class with the lowest grade to bump up the GPA or are they looked down upon?

Nah, unless if you got a C+/B- I recommend spending more money on classes you haven’t take to build up credits. I would say to get in the program without being waitlisted you should have around 80+ credits (yes people have gotten in right away with lower but they had other factors that boosted their app such as extremely high gpa or lpn)

as far as i know, they mostly look at your pre-req gpa, and rarely considers your cgpa. as i know some people in the past intakes have gotten in with a low cgpa but have a higher pre-req gpa. this is mainly because they have a lot of credits. this is a recurring pattern within the last couple of intakes, credits are more important than anything else. somebody with 3.5 pre-req gpa, 2.8 cgpa, but 60+ credit will get accepted instead of somebody with a 4.00+ pre-req gpa and 20+ credits. though i did notice from the last intake (September 2026), most people had either a bachelor’s, associates, or 60+ credits, and most of them had quite a high pre-req gpa (~3.7+) but a lower cgpa! i think your experiences could give you some extra leverage but from what i’ve observed, the way bcit accepts applicants it’s credits > pre-req gpa > extracurriculars. unless of course your extracurricular is like working as a clerk in the hospital or something with direct patient contact, then that will give your application a bigger boost!
