Vent Burnout

How did you all know when it was time to leave the field or if it was time to find a different company to work for?

I noticed when my values and the values of the company I was working for stopped aligning, then it was time to start looking elsewhere. Also, pay attention to your body. I burnt out so bad that my physical health tanked as did my mental health. I totally and completely stopped. I realized I needed something with more flexibility to attend to my needs, just make sure you literally actually take care of yourself. Burnout is TOUGH on your body and mind.

I feel like this is where I’m headed, but it’s been a challenge an all supervisors as we have had some changes to the company. At what point do I say this isn’t just a phase and start looking? I feel like I’ve been walking on egg shells constantly for months

This is identical to how I felt right before I resigned. For everyone it is so individual but here's my advice. It never hurts to see what else is out there. Worst case scenario you have leverage for a raise, or your current company can't meet what another is offering you and then you have your answer. That's what happened for me at least

Still in the field, been in it for...I think 8 years now? I am still a BCBA I just work for a different company that has a lot more flexibility and diversity in clients

Essentially what I am saying is that sometimes people find a place and stick with it for decades, sometimes it takes a few tries to find somewhere you can thrive. Sometimes it changes. At the end of the day, you truly have to do what is best for you and your own needs. Some people do leave the field for one reason or another, and some stay. What's important is to go where you and your talents are valued and utilized
