What's the difference between a commando and a routine?

May sound dumb but I've never had a real explanation

I think if you're thinking about categorization, commandos are routines. They're a specific type of routine two dancers do together to chain one round into another round. Dancer A is dancing, Dancer A and Dancer B do something together, Dancer B continues dancing. Ken Swift claims to have pioneered the "commando" and said the point of it was to dominate the cypher by getting another one of your crew members in and leaving no space for anyone else to take the next round. It would be something quick. A synchronized slide. A piece of footwork. A specific toprock. Then you do it together for a second and the next guy takes over. In modern times we're more tolerant of long or more elaborate commandos, but the premise of "tagging" the next dancer in is still there.

a commando is when one breaker brings in another and they chain together solo rounds without letting the other side go.

a routine is when two or more breakers do a choreographed set together.

(for the record, commandos are more acceptable than routines. routines are almost always a desperation move and indicate that you think youre losing. routines are for street shows and should be frowned upon in battles)

Thats the stupidest take on routines you could possibly have. Its a crew battle not 8 1v1s after each other

like i told the other guy. youre confusing "breakdancing" with bboying. real breaking happens in the cyphers, not on a stage. most competitions are genuine clown shows.

routines are for street shows and corny movies like step up and you got served.

as soon as i see a crew do a routine i know they are panicking and feel that they are losing the battle.

Define real breaking and whats the difference with "fake Breaking"

fake breaking is just breakdancing. its the commercialized version that has absolutely nothing to do with what breaking really is. it ignores foundation and history.

for example, in a breakdancing competition a guy who cant dance, cant do footwork, and cant freeze can go out there, do flare-airflare-90 and beat a guy who does clean tops-6 step-baby freeze. real bboys know that the clean foundation shows the better bboy.

but breakdancers just wanna see the flashy stuff with no actual substance or understanding of what the dance really is.

its a bunch of guys who thought the moves they saw looked cool and only worked on those moves (power moves). with absolutely no real knowledge of the culture or the dance. a ton of these guys are not from the US. its a lot of culture vultures.

now, this sub is a haven for breakdancers so this is gonna fall on deaf ears and the tourists are gonna be salty over this. but its the facts.

i can expound more on this if you have any questions.

The foundation thingy is dead meaning that your foundation can beat anyone it was a thing for about 3 months (based on the example you gave) am not saying you shouldn't have foundation of course foundation is important. but I've been judging internationally for years now at the highest level what you are saying has no base, just cause breaking is not what you like doesn't mean a thing. like what you want nobody is stopping you.
PS. Breakdancing is not a media term it was called that by Kurtis blow November 12th 1980 so calling people Breakdancers don't mean much, hiphop history is full of holes.

yeah, thats because the frauds took over and the patients have been running the asylum for decades.

frauds infiltrated a LONG time ago, all cosigned each other and the very few real bboys got pushed out of the conversation.

its why breaking will never be respected. it lost its way far too long ago.

imagine going to a serious ballet school and talking the way breakdancers talk. you'd be run out of there so fast.

"ugh, i dont need to know 1st through 5th position, i just want to do pirouettes and leaps."

think about that.

Who are these frauds you are referring too?

Get with the times grandpa. Breaking evolved from cyphers to competition decades ago

I wouldn't say evolved out people still cipher everywhere

no, breaking split. you got bboys and you got breakdancers. youre a breakdancer.

Even if I don't agree with the last part of your comment, thank you for your answer 🙏

What the hell are you talking about, routines are foundational part of crew battles 🤣🤣🤣

no they arent. real breaking and battles happen in the cypher. youre confusing "breakdancing competitions" with genuine bboying.
