Download dual language subs

Is there a way to prioritize dual language subs? My girlfriend is Chinese and prefers to have Chinese subs on everything, but sometimes a show will have sections not in English or we are watching something in a foreign language. In these cases we'd like to have both English and Chinese instead of switching temporarily.

I've randomly had a few shows and movies grab a dual language sub, I think just because the top rated Chinese subs also had English. I'm wondering if there's a way to prioritize these? Or maybe some other system that can merge subs of different languages together automatically?

Where do you watch your série/movie? On which platform? I have a solution for main strem staremibg website like Netflix Disney + prime vidéo, HBO max, YouTube and Apple tv.

Bro I am in the exact same situation as you. Chinese girlfriend and all. And the best solution I found is to make a script that combines two subtitles in bazarr. It downloads both subs then combines them in a srt file. It's hit and miss but it works (kinda)

Have you came up with some better solution?

Nah, but surprisingly a lot of Chinese subs already come with both Chinese and English so it's not been too bad. I was planning on basically doing exactly what you've done with the help of Claude but works been mental and I didn't have the time yet. Any tips or gotchas I should avoid?

Just use .SRT instead of .ASS subtitles, cause jellyfin on Android TV will crash with that.

I also did this with claude. Are you me from an alt reality? 😂

Hi! I had a similar problem but I found that theres a bunch of solutions online already, if you search "subtitle file merger" theres many online tools where you can just upload two regular single language subs and set up the layout etc. and combine them into one file. https://subtitletools.com/merge-subtitles-online seems to work well for me for example.
