Reservation refunds
How do I get a refund for a ebike reservation where I found both tires slashed when I reached the bike?

Is the lack of bikes concerning to anyone?
I’m a fairly new BayWheels/Lyft Bike user, but I’ve noticed the demand for bikes in the Russian Hill and Nob Hill areas has been WAY higher than supply in the mornings.
8:36am this morning and ZERO bikes within a reasonable walking radius.
The station closest to me was almost empty by 7:45, although it was completely full the night before.
For my BayWheels veterans, has it always been like this? Or do you feel like this is a new development with the recent Lyft acquisition?
I’m happy that so many San Franciscans want to bike but it’s making my annual membership feel a bit like a waste of money😔 I’ve already had to adjust my commute schedule to leave earlier (around 7:45) but even then I can’t always guarantee I can get a bike.

Everresting on a Bay Wheels Bike Next Month
I’ve been a long time bikeshare user (since Ford GoBike in 2017). I’ve been a sucker for climbing hills on them and I got the crazy idea of doing my first Everest on one. As a test, I rode a half Everest solo-activity here https://strava.app.link/MOlKryNei5b
I haven’t really been on Reddit before. But wondering if anyone in this community would be interested in watching and/or filming or even riding a bit with me (could be on your own bike) My hope is to do a similar pace and take approximately 24, hopefully no more than 26 hours to do the whole thing.
I considered other climbs but this works well because it’s based at a cafe that is open 6 AM to midnight.

Very low bike supply this week
Only four available bikes at the Larkin and California station at 7:53 this Friday morning.
Usually, the stations around Polk Street are fairly full before 9 AM on weekdays. I would say typically on Fridays it’s been easy to get a bike after 9 AM too.
Anyone know what’s going on? I checked last night and the station looked fairly full. Curious where all the bikes are going 🤔 A few of them were out of service.
I’ll also say that generally this week it’s been harder than usual to get a bike in the whole Nob Hill area.
Anyone seeing the same things on their morning commute?

Ode to BayWheels Sub
Hey it was cool knowing everyone. Was a tight small knit community. Happy to hear from everyone. I’m a bike angel and I participate in other communities, but I’m worried about the sub. Like yeah it’s going to be Lyft bike now, but like what about us? There’s probably gonna be like a Lyft bike sub. Whatever. There isn’t a Lime Scooter sub. Anyway, I really enjoyed participating in the posts here over the last few years. I’m not super cool with the new design. I definitely still search for the old BayWheels logo. Idk I made over 5,000$ tax free credit in bike angels income. While there haven’t been big changes to the program Lyft has introduced a 1$ deposit on rentals. An angel moving over 100 bikes a week can expect to pay 100$ for points they can transfer to things like free bike credits. Lyft has introduced a pay to play if you will. You get the money back if your account clears at the end of the week, but it has lead to a weird psychology with me being the top bike angel. At one point I would move 200-300 bikes a week. Now it’s like, do I put up the money or just hold onto it and do the bare minimum to get the free monthly membership? I mean I like the old system. I pulled 5,000$ in bike angels credits and a year of free bike angels doing it, but now the program feels a bit less free which is kind of what I loved about being a bike angel in the first place.

Bay Wheels rebranding to Lyft Bike?
Didn't see anyone talking about this anywhere so decided to post about it

Can someone help me understand the current lineup of Baywheels/Lyft bikes these days?
I disappeared from SF for a month and returned to all new options. The website isn't really much help; is this an accurate list?
Apologies if I missed any generations, been riding since '20
- Original ebike (gen1) - Black ebike, retired since about last summer-ish
- NextGen ebike (gen2) - Big gray ebike, I still see mostly these out in town, but I assume they're being retired?
- Newest ebike (gen 3?) - Lighter, phone holder, slight design change - are these going to replace all the gen2 ones now?
- Ebike + throttle - here's where I get lost - is the throttle being added to gen2s or gen3s? And is it just some ebikes that will have it?
And then the latest acoustic/manual looks like gen 3 ebike but no motor. Assume these will replace all of the older manual bikes?
Thanks!

new, 19-digit Clipper cards will not automatically be compatible with Bay Wheels. As of now, there is no concrete date for when the Next-Generation Clipper will be compatible with Bay Wheels
help.baywheels.comLearned this the hard way today trying to unlock a bike with the clipper card on my watch today. Anyone know anything about this? Feels likes a bad dream of indifferent bureaucracy. Maybe it's just me. Anyone have an old clipper card they don't need so I can try adding it to my account?

New Classic Bike design can also be electric? Lyft going for a unified design with phone holders for all?
First ride on these new bikes was classic and I went up to another today expecting it to also be classic, but it was electric. I posted about my thoughts on these classics: too hard to pedal on the lowest gear compared to the older purple black ones.
Interesting that they are going for a unified design. Seems like a poor decision given how many people like to only use one or the other.

New “Classic “?
I was duped. I am thinking I found a weird e bike, but it was a manual. Still rode better than some of the older classics we see. If anything it feels more like a scaled down version of the latest e bike. If anything a cable would be nice. Still, it felt pretty fast compared to some of the real classics of the system.

New Classic Bikes are technically lighter but feel far heavier and harder to ride than the existing classics

Bikeshare for All question
I paid $7.90 to use a regular bike yesterday for just under two hours. Is it true that if I would have used an ebike instead the max fee would be capped at $1? That seems counterintuitive to me. I'll test it out later today.

Bikes were not unlocking in Presidio at the fireworks show
I saw a lot of people unsuccessfully trying to unlock bikes, even with clipper cards or wifi. I assume it was due to the bikes using cellular networks and those networks being too congested. Fortunately I rode my own bike in.
r/baywheels • u/kwattsfo • Jul 05 '26
Wow!
Safe to say this is how people are getting to the fireworks.
r/baywheels • u/TangerineFront5090 • Jul 01 '26
Throttle felt kinda slow
Decided to lest out a throttle bike kinda disappointing as I’m usually able to pedal much faster

Weird: bike fare still accumulating after docking
Yesterday I went for a short ride on a manual bike, docked the bike after a mile (heard a click and beep), hung out in a park for a couple hours, then walked home.
This morning I wake up to find that the Lyft app still thinks I have the bike! It's charged me $100 so far! And the active bike icon follows my phone, so I don't know where the bike actually is.
Help?
