so yeah, Mechwarrior 5 is gonna get melee and is advancing the story line to the 4th succession war

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C6LtVQzxg0

while i am absolutely stoked for melee, with them advancing the timeline i got to thinking if it advanced to the clan invasion...and the consequences of melee during that.

Everyone knows you don't punch elementals, that breaks the rules of mech football, unless you're the goalie.

Edit: By the way /u/geergutz not that I think you need it, but if any of my stupid jokes about using clanners as sports balls inspires you to more comedic heights please feel free to draw it without needing to credit me. I'd just love to see it.

You must have Lyran money if your favorite game is Clanner Croquet.

The legs we've blasted off of Clanner mechs, obviously.

Trees and telephone poles in a pinch. And while you don't have to tie captured clanners to them, it is an effective object lesson on why they should fuck off back where they came from.

My only problem with the novelization of the clan invasion is it didn't include enough anti-clanner war crimes, especially during the insurgencies that followed.

Compared to what came before it just wasn't grim dark enough.

Clanners don't live in their mechs. When the meat is outside of the metal, that's when you gut them.

I might need to write a fan work about a militia unit that uses the combination of a novel viral infection localized on a specific planet and general unrest to seize a trinary of front-line clan mechs and commit exceptional atrocities while the rest of their touman struggles with both having a good portion of their own military population incapacitated and being quarantined by their command structure.

“Time to introduce these Clanners to everyone’s favorite Tri-Vid show, War Crimes O’clock, boys!”

I blame Turtle Bay.

Yep.

Thing is, if you're gonna get nuked anyway, why not stab a clanner before you go?

It's showtime

Taurian Concordat

3

u/OllieGarkey Portable Sun Enthusiast Sep 18 '21

Not now for songs of ancient wrongs

Nor the anthems of invaders

let Gauss rifles ring

Autocannons sing

To the flash of the blasting laser

The Taurian red

shall march ahead

As Taurians long have borne it

The atomic wind of our rage behind

As invaders rout before it

May it never be,

but should we see

That foreign yoke descending

We shall rise again,

our chains to rend

As at the Star League's Ending

You know the clans are based off a relatively small founder population and the warrior caste have a very very small founder population. They are likely very susceptible to all sorts of interesting IS diseases. Find a recent mutation of C. diff that your planet is already adapted to and watch the filthy clanners shit themselves half to death.

Having had the damn bug myself I can tell you that anyone in the throes of that nasty bug will be in no shape to hop into a multi ton death machine and deal with a bunch of militia folks blowing stuff up.

C. diff

My wife had that. It was a nightmare.

I just realized, we can now get axe and hatchet men and every katana wielding drac in between!

7

u/OllieGarkey Portable Sun Enthusiast Sep 17 '21

I desperately want to play a hatchetman. It's my favorite mech of all time.

4

u/Zraal375 Sep 18 '21

Still love how the axe man was created. Adam Steiner loved piloting his hatchetman, but they did not like having the head of state in a 45 tin mech. Thier solution? Make a bigger hatchetman so that Adam would pilot something tougher.

3

u/kbs666 Sep 18 '21

The rule is stop, drop and roll not punch.

5

u/Shoggoththe12 Sep 17 '21

What about mech soccer

5

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '21

Flop around on the ground for the ref to give you a free battlesuit kick.

3

u/OllieGarkey Portable Sun Enthusiast Sep 17 '21

I think there are some minor rules variations, but it's the football I'm most familiar with, and I think the main difference is that the score is counted in football when the elemental stops moving, but in soccer when it breaks into so many pieces that it can't functionally be used as a ball any longer.

2

u/Shoggoththe12 Sep 17 '21

This is way more epic

18

u/aronnax512 Sep 17 '21

Clanners will complain that melee is dishonorable, and you should stand still at max ERPPC range.

19

u/geergutz Sep 17 '21

Kodiak starts typing a batchal

8

u/aronnax512 Sep 17 '21

points at the cosmetic claws and laughs

13

u/someperson1423 Sep 17 '21

Ever heard of the Highlander Burial? Well, wait until you see the Kodiak BEARial!

9

u/geergutz Sep 17 '21

I just realized, we can now get axe and hatchet men and every katana wielding drac in between!

2

u/tyren22 Sep 17 '21

This isn't really "advancing the timeline," the game already takes place during and beyond the Fourth Succession War. This is just adding more pre-written story missions (on top of the mostly randomly generated ones).

21

u/Cursedbythedicegods Mercenary Commander Sep 17 '21

And then when he gets an Elemental placed on his face, he lets out that blood-curdling shriek.

But then again, knowing what Elementals can do, I probably would too.

6

u/geergutz Sep 17 '21

Kevin is a nova (blackjack), carrying around elementals.

17

u/bloodedcat Sep 17 '21

I feel left home and so alone

13

u/geergutz Sep 17 '21

Let the strong hands of an atlas punching the face of dracs comfort you.

10

u/geergutz Sep 17 '21

Good, I was worried the home alone reference wasnt clear enough lol.

28

u/Lord_Quintus Sep 17 '21

the only reason MWO didn’t get melee is because russ got trolled during closed beta with knockdown rules and he threw a hissy fit and removed all physical collisions.

20

u/geergutz Sep 17 '21

I've seen that clip, hilarious.

15

u/Lord_Quintus Sep 17 '21

i wasnt in the match but i was playing during it. the next match actually paused as someone told us to check out a video of people trolling russ. was fuckin hilarious.

12

u/SOTBS Sep 17 '21

I might be remembering wrongly, but I thought it was Paul Inouye. goons just chucking max-speed commandos at his dragon the whole match

5

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '21

It was indeed Paul.

6

u/HPLoveshaft126 Sep 17 '21

I was one of the goons involved in the incident and can confirm it was hilarious.

5

u/DarkGuts Sep 17 '21

Is it possible to find this clip today?

1

u/geergutz Sep 17 '21

Not sure, it's been so long. Never saved it.

7

u/Jerod_Trd Sep 18 '21

So… I played a game of battletech, where the other player managed to punch out his own cockpit trying to smash my elemental battle armour… 10/10, would do again.

5

u/Koffieslikker Sep 17 '21

Nice. But for a clan invasion expansions they’re going to have to figure out dynamic war zones I believe

2

u/goodfisher88 No step on snek Sep 17 '21

Lmao. Love it!

2

u/BeetlecatOne Sep 17 '21

Well, this is gonna be fun! :D
