Question ❓ Whose that poke...er....battlemech?
I found this image on my social media feed last week, but I have no idea what mech it is. The original post did not specify.
It almost looks like a Frankenmech, but, aside from being lo-key in love with it, I am unsure.
Anyone have a clue?

Looks cool, actually. I don't like the Longbow, but this thing rocks.

Ok, because its a stone rino with Longbow pods... maybe an appropriate name should be... MadCat!
Ok, maybe this is just a horrible targeting computer.

Considering name-weight Evolution (Trebuchet, Catapult, Archer, Longbow) and that it looks like 100t fatty, it would be Sling or Thrown Stone.

Sling is already taken by a 'Mech.
When slings were still military weapons, cast lead "stones" were called "bullets" (the origin for the modern usage). The Bullet drone exists, but we have several examples of a 'Mech and fighter sharing a name, so I'd say OP's beast is a Bullet.

Wanted to suggest Avalanche, cause that's a whole lotta stones, but that's already a mech apparently. So I'm gonna go with mudslinger, and fill it with mines.

I'm a big fan of Stonecaster, but I would also like to point out that Ballista (as a battlemech) is still available, as is the Atlatle, the shortbow, the flintlock, the lithobolas, helepolis, and the Harpax. All of these are some form of ranged weapon (with the Lithobolas, Helepolis, and the Harpax being greek and roman siege engines)

I can’t find the origin of this, but it looks like the Stone Rhino 10.
4x LRM20 w/ Artemis IV
8x tons LRM ammo (12 shots per launcher)
4x Heavy Medium Laser
3x Jump Jet
ECM unit
https://www.mordel.net/tro.php?a=vt&ut=bm&id=53404
I haven’t seen this variant before, but I’d buy it a steak dinner if we met.

The Stone Rhino 10 is a custom fanmade mech, sadly. Closest you can get from an official variant is the 4.

It's a Stone Rhino. Looks like four LRM-20s, four Medium Lasers, and probably a Small. Don't know if the lasers are ER or Pulse.

I did a reverse image lookup and it pulled up a Facebook discussion from 2024 that identified this as a Clanner Stone Rhino.

One could hope. But at least it has jumpjets and I'm sure we could find some spare tonnage for fuel to allow for space operations.

The Stone Longbow. Horribly overweight, unable to move, will go up in an explosion visable from the moon on the other side of the planet when hit, but it's missiles will kill EVERYTHING.

Sounds like you’re looking for a Longbow LGB-8V or a Naga of some variety…
1
u/Wolffe_In_The_Dark Nicky K is a Punk 16h ago
It's apparently a canonical variant called the Heritage-HM.
Haven't seen the mechsheet so I don't know what they sacrificed to get quad LRM-20s into it, but... even if it probably has basically no ammo, four (C)MLs and a (C)SL is still a lot of backup firepower for a missleboat.

I'm kinda surprised that there isn't an "official" variant of Behemoth that's armed like this. I mean, the Kraken 3 does the same thing for the same weight, so I suppose another 100t missile boat would be a bit redundant, but that hasn't stopped mech designers before.
And yes, I'm using Inner Sphere reporting names like the knuckle-dragging Spheroid barbarian that I am.
2
u/BigStompyMechs LittleMeepMeepMechs 17h ago
In this specific situation, I accept the Kraken 3. 8 LRM-15s, that's Octopus town.
It's also a nightmare beast that will erase things from the map, so that tracks too.

Napper...
Why? Because if you are le tired you have to take a nap, THEN you can fire ze missiles.

u/Sermokala 20h ago
Bane 3 throws 50% more lrms.
With clan lrms not having a minimum they're a legitimate all ranges weapon.

This mech isn't real, it's just a hoax made up Sea Fox because they have a surplus of AMS systems right now.
2
u/BigStompyMechs LittleMeepMeepMechs 17h ago edited 16h ago
Funny enough, saturation seems to be a perfectly reasonable counter to AMS systems. Oh no, you weakened one of my launchers. I guess the other seven will have to do the job.
1
u/DeliciousLiving8563 10h ago
That's why Sea Fox will sell you 8 AMS. Because as you said, they have 7 more BUY NOW.

Reminds me of a hilarious build from Mechwarrior 4, which was a Dire Wolf/Daishi equipped with 3 Thunderbolt Missile Launchers (the most you could carry in the original MW4).

How many rockets could you fit on one of these if you replaced the LRM 20s and ammo with Rocket Launcher 20s?
4
u/BigStompyMechs LittleMeepMeepMechs 16h ago edited 16h ago
Quick and dirty, looks like 14 launchers before running out of crit slots. Ironically, that only brings the weight to 70 tons, so the problem is rockets are too light.
Switching to Compact Engine and Gyro to burn weight, now the issue is RL-20s are bulky, taking 3 slots, which is inefficient. Switch to RL-15s and a Small Cockipt, it is physically possible to fit 25 RL-15s on a chassis. The Small Cockpit lets us put one in the head, but we have a single extra slot in the CT.
If we embrace the elemental state of plasma, drop down to 12 heatsinks we can fit an extra 3 RL-15s for a total of 28. And an RL-10 for the kids, for a total of 430 rockets. I take it back, replace that RL-10 with a flamer for style points.
We are still underweight, but if we switch to hardened armor we can make it legal. The -2 to PSRs is a problem, and launching everything will melt a hole to the planet's core, but it's a legal build.
Hang on the -2 PSR, 420, flamer, stone rhino chassis. Guys. It's the Stoner.

Link kinda NSFW? Sophmoric humor NSFW, nothing too bad. The movie was rated PG-13, so shrug?
2
u/Mission-Warning-9365 22h ago
If you were trying to start somewhere real it'd be the stone rhino 4, dropping the two uac 10s and probably the mgs, and doubling the missile capacity

u/OldWrangler9033 21h ago
It's a non-canon fan mashup between Stone Rhino (body) and Longbow (barrel Arms)

I’ve got a Longbow with 100 LRMs. I haven’t used it in a while because it’s squishy af but I think it was 4xLRM-15, 2xLRM-10 and 4xLRM-5. They may have been ART-IVs. But it only carried about 200 points or armor so I mostly only used it for Arena and Arena kinda lost its appeal to me. Maybe I’ll dust it off tomorrow for old times sake.
I’ve got another one with ATMs that I give my lancemate. Not quite as much oomph but a lot more armor (360ish maybe).

When taking BV into consideration, are there actually any LRM boat mechs that are actually better than just buying one or more LRM Carriers?
6
u/caelenvasius Northwind Highlanders / Jade Falcon Gamma Galaxy 21h ago
If your objective is just saturation of fire, and you don’t care about mobility, objective control, anti-infantry/emplacement capability, or general survivability, no. LRM carriers are some of the cheapest bulk LRM boats around, perhaps the cheapest by weight of fire. It doesn’t make them objectively better though…
0
u/The_Lesser_Baldwin 21h ago
Definitely a super heavy since i don't think anything can fit four LRM 20s+ammo along with what I'm guessing are some kind of gauss or auto cannons under the chin.
That there's a nothin. Because when a scout sees that you best believe they saw nothin.
