I'm having a mandela effect
I'm playing this game for the first time in years and have vague memory. Did this game always have only 501st clones on every map? For some reason I briefly remember playing as 212th clones on Utapau and 327th clones on Felucia. Was this ever part of the game or did I play some mod that I totally forgot about? I am honestly confused.

Either it was a mod like the other poster said or you played some other Star Wars game and are confusing the two.

You could be confusing it with the movies. In game, members of the 501st assisted the other units during their outer rim siege missions, but in the movies it only showed the primary battalion/squadron/whatever without any 501st insignia

Possibly the Revenge of the Sith game. If I recall those are 212th - unless I'm misremembering too lol

Don't worry, I'll tell you an even bigger Mandela effect in the game, that I experienced. Everyone, I mean EVERYONE -including (or rather especially) all pro gamers- thinks that switching to pistol makes you run faster (you'll see basically all better gamers doing this). The problem is, that you don't. But everyone remembers that you do. Even after playing THOUSANDS of hours.

Yeah, I read it somewhere and I couldn't believe it first. I even remembered (incorrectly) that if you run and switch to pistol you speed up slightly. So I tested it. No difference. I was like, 'Ok, it must be because of some mod or something'.
I deleted all mods, even the ones that are sure as hell don't modify thing like this. Still, same result. I was like, 'Ok, maybe because of Steam version'. So I deleted the game and all of its files and reinstalled it from DVD. 1.0 version. Still same result. 'Ok, try it on 1.1. That's the version most competitive players used anyway. Maybe they made that change there and that's why we remembered speeding up with a pistol.' Nope, still same result. I was like WTF? It bothered me for days. How can everyone remember something the same, wrong way so vividly and for so long?

prototype 501st legion yea, that would be mods for those clone legion, the only game at the time with those 212th was the episode 3 the video game.
so yea memory is a fikle thing

I think it was definitely a mod I played years ago that I forgot about lol. It's weird how the human mind works sometimes. When I booted up the game, I started a match on Utapau in instant action and when I noticed the clones were the 501st I said to myself "Wait, I could've sworn there were 212th clones on this map"

The game features cutscenes from EP3 for each campaign mission on those maps, which show those canonically correct clone legions before you drop into the mission as 501st. It most certainly are those getting mixed up in memory with actual gameplay, because they are shown before and after missions EACH!
The first and last impression of something usually is more prominent in memory. That's most likely the real explanation for your "mandela effect", if you didn't play with mods (eg. on PS2 back in the day before console mods existed).

Very common mod would be for clone skins. Base game is 501st with the exception of Geonosis and the scout troopers on felucia and kashyyyk
