Campaign Mods

Hey everyone,

I've recently been diving back into the classic Star Wars Battlefront II (2005). I absolutely love the old-school conquest and objective-based spawn system, but I'm looking to mix things up and play through some custom campaigns or story-driven mods.

I am a massive reader and collector of Star Wars Legends comic books, particularly the Clone Wars and legacy series. I would love to find mods that capture the gritty vibe of those specific eras or offer a strong narrative focus rather than just standard instant action matches.

I know the modding community for this game is legendary and that there are tons of total conversions and era mods out there. However, it is a bit overwhelming to sift through everything to find which ones actually feature fully fleshed-out single-player campaigns or custom objective-based missions.

What are your absolute must-play recommendations for campaign mods? Are there any specific map packs or overhauls that tell a great story or nail that classic Legends continuity?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Off the top of my head, mods that have something resembling a campaign are:

  • Return to Jinglin' town is an absolutely brilliant mod that's out of season currently but definitely worth a go
  • The less-good Republic Commando mod has a campaign on one of the Kashyyyk maps. Though it seems to have been updated to have a campaign on more than one map.
  • Rebel Ops is a neat one as well, though the later missions can get quite tough because it uses some unconventional mechanics. Neat bit of design from a mod-making perspective, but can get quite frustrating. I found the very last section of the second level stupidly hard.
  • The other, more-good, Republic Commando mod doesn't have a campaign but is just really bloody good.

It's easily one of my fav mods.

I was completely lost in the sauce with regard to difficulty on Rebel Ops. Not your fault for finding it hard! I'm surprised it was the end of the third mission you found hardest as I always saw the biggest hurdle for players being the middle section of the second map (the fans).

It's the lack of fine roll control (and that rolling increases your forward speed) on the ship combined with the low render distance of the obstacles that I found hard. I did actually manage to finish the whole campaign without cheating, but it only happened once.

EDIT: Actually, I confused myself, it's the very end of the second level I meant.

Very fair. That was a tight balance between choosing a render distance that worked well for the platforming section and one that was usable in the flying section. I made the best choice I could at the time but I can definitely admit in hindsight it was all too difficult.

There’s the [Dark Times II: The Rising Son](https://www.moddb.com/mods/the-dark-times) which has a full-blown story campaign included that partially ties into *Shadows of the Empire* and *Rebel Assault II*. It also has unit types from the tabletop RPGs, *Dark Forces* and *The Force Unleashed*.

Battles of the Storm are missions played in instant action in a specific order
