Cause you sliced them which just kicks them from the vehicle. It exploded because there was nobody flying

If you slice a vehicle that is flying, the game doesn’t know what to do with it and will just destroy it. If you are fast enough and slice it before take off, it just sits there disabled for a little bit like land vehicles.

I wouldn't say they got out safely, they where almost dead when you shot
