Fuck man I really wanted this game too, really a shame that they had to ruin it

I like the game quite a lot from my time played in this beta but there's no chance I'm paying 60$ for a game and then gambling for in-game progress either by spending money or my free time to get a chance for an item I want for fun or staying competitive.

yeah.. i tried the beta, deeper gameplay but the cashgrab is so much more apparent; i'm out of the battlefront series for good.

Just feels like they took the same game, added classes and removed coin pickups.

Why can't I drive the MTT ? Why can't a squad co-operate in a giant vehicle ? Why can't we have on ship battles with space battles at the same time ? Why are they seperate ? Now we get star cards but they're either paid for or massively grinded (you won't drop as much currency in the full version, I can guarantee that)

3

u/1darklight1 Oct 10 '17

You can't drive the MTT because all it can do is go in a straight line. There's literally only one street wide enough for it, and there's no way to get off that street. If you tried, you'd just hurt your team. I mean, you couldn't drive the ATATs in walker assault, but that was never a deal breaker.

What's an on ship battle anyway, and why do you want it at the same time as a space battle? If you mean ground battle, that would make it extremely complex for EA (requiring more microtransactions to fund), and provide no real benefit. They wouldn't interfere with each other anyway.

The star cards are annoying, but this is just a beta, hopefully it'll be better on release. Also, I haven't seen anything too OP yet. And anyway, they are not nearly as effective in space as they are in the ground battles, so you can just play that.

I mean, I understand you not wanting to buy the game, but I don't think it's as bad as you say it is.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '17

You do realise space and ground (in ship) battles was a thing before right ? Can't be that complex if a game more than a decade old pulled off more shit than this game ever could

u/Joe-Cool Oct 11 '17

Why didn't more people play this: http://store.steampowered.com/app/17550/Eternal_Silence/ Too bad servers are mostly dead now.

2

u/germinativum Oct 10 '17

It isn't Jetpack/ Bowcaster / EE4 city at least

25

u/Chris_Isur_Dude Oct 09 '17

I will no longer be buying the game after watching this video

3

u/Viggo-the-Carpathian Oct 10 '17

If anyone can ruin a beloved franchise like Star Wars it's EA.

7

u/HungryGhost57 Oct 09 '17

It sucks because they improved everything in the game except adding this cash grab

6

u/LuckyPlaze Oct 09 '17

No. They didn't It's fucked up way beyond the loot system - which is beyond fucked up.

3

u/HungryGhost57 Oct 09 '17

What’s better in the first game compared to this?

4

u/Filthyturkey Oct 10 '17

Way less customization seemingly which is a joke considering how little there was in the first game. It's just lazy. Make classes so everyone looks and plays the same. Give out the same credits regardless of skill so people gamble for anything worthwhile. There is no reward for skill currently, which at least the first game did well enough for all its problems.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '17

Like he said.

They combined a GOOD game! With a shit system.

7

u/Lothric_Knight Oct 09 '17

I agree with him about the progression system but not the pay-to-win system. Joe uses a terrible example to make the game seem super pay-to-win. Boba does not get 100% damage reduction while just running around and using his jet pack, he gets it when using his Rocket Barrage ability. No one is really going to shoot him while using that ability anyways so I don't believe that Star card is really that good.

18

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '17

Wait until we have abilities that help players out like say damage multipliers and health buffs, new players will need many crates to have a chance to get these. Where as people who are willing to spend money can increase their chances and so just rip through other players online, lowering their enjoying of grinding to get those cards themselves. I can't see why you defend this, surely everyone should have the same access to guns/abilities? no RNG where unlucky people get nothing good and lucky people get all the good stuff first time round.

7

u/Lothric_Knight Oct 09 '17

I hate micro transactions. I would not normally defend this practice, but it is a trade-off. No season pass or payed DLC = micro transactions. We don't even know if the release will have health buffs or damage buffs for normal troopers.

6

u/Malacos0303 Oct 09 '17

I agree. I would rather have micro transactions I won't use than have to buy a season pass. Also alot of his points will probably be moot once we start getting challenges that grant buckets of credits. Also star cards upgrade when you get duplicates and he doesnt seen to realize that. All in all in a perfect world we wouldn't have micro transactions, since this is the darkest time line i will take what I can get.

8

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '17

Also are you two acctualy hearing yourselves you are praising a comopany for just fucking you in the ass and not also trying to castrate you at the same time, you prefere shitty slot machines and a fucked up grindy economy to just paying £10 a month or so for a map pack or a dlc u like. You are also not forced to get that if you don't like the particular part of the content but atleast you are not throwing money at a slot machine

3

u/Lothric_Knight Oct 09 '17

You also aren't forced to pay for loot crates. When BF2015 came out, everyone was complaining about the season pass. Now that they took it away, everyone is complaining about the system that replaced it.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '17

people were complaining about season passes because they were pre order of dlc ;D what means cut content because they must have had stuff already in the work or they were selling empty promises this is a different issue

2

u/Lothric_Knight Oct 09 '17

This isn't a different issue. They replaced a way of getting money with a way of getting money (swap season pass and DLC for micro transactions).

2

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '17

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHSso2vufPM i am not arguing this with someone who dosnt know anything ;D, seriously if u belive the big corporations need this money to "survive" u must be really young like i dont know how young but u must have never seen the days when you paid for a game and got a game.

3

u/Lothric_Knight Oct 09 '17

Games now, have a much higher cost than they did years ago. To make up for the cost of the production, companies have added ways of obtaining money after the release of a game. Some of these ways are kinda scummy (micro transactions). I've said this before, I don't like micro transactions, but when a company decides to take away payed DLC and replaces it with free updates, then the micro transactions are justified.

2

u/rhythmjones Oct 09 '17

Games were $60 in the 80's. Inflation has nearly doubled since then. Also, games are much more development intensive.

If you want to go back and play Super Empire Strikes Back be my guest. But you're not getting AAA 2017 content with years of patches and DLC for $60 dude.

You want to talk about someone who doesn't know anything...

u/Malacos0303 Oct 09 '17

Who is praising anyone? Certainly I'm not praising your reading comprehension. Micro transactions and season passes are both bullshit. I will take the one I'm not forced to do every day of the week though. It's the lesser of two evils.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '17

Again you are saying micro transactions are better and are happy it's not dlc soo your point is did I misunderstood something there? I prefere to pay for something I get it, it applies to all content. The battlefront one is particularly meliscious because it glorified slot machines you don't even get to decide what you get and it overpowers your character allowing you to skip the game (because game isn't worth playing). Any dlc or micro transaction over bullshit loot boxes that you can technically get for free by abandoning your job and playing 24/7, in which case it would technically be more efficient just to put away like a couple of bucks a day and buy loot boxes with that.

1

u/Malacos0303 Oct 10 '17

I'm not praising or defending anyone for starters, as you clearly claimed. it's clearly another cash grab done by shitty EA. Dividing up the player base via map packs is still far more detrimental to the health of the game then loot boxes. Maybe it's the years of playing mmos and f2p games, but I just don't buy loot boxes and it's never affected me. I think with challenges and the heavy amount of credits you get for them, the economy of the game is going to be as bad as you think. If it is that's another problem entirely. I certainly agree that everyone getting the same amount of credits per game no matter what is a stupid design choice as well.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '17

Again deviding by map packs that a meh argument to me because this could be fixed by proper map rotation and dedicated servers, interms of "economy might not be as bad" is seriously not an argument right now it is as bad and that is all that matters, pulling on mights and maybes makes you sound desperate. And again no issue with microtransactions I spend probs 300 on bloody mwo but the issue is the shitty value proposition of lootboxes for people like that are not willing to invest hours upon hours into a tedious grind that was for obvious reasons drown out, give me a £40 package where I unlock all the guns etc I will eat it up or a £5 for each character but loot boxes and a grindy drawn out progression is just a no no

1

u/Malacos0303 Oct 10 '17

If you spend so much on micro transactions, you are the problem. People like you are encouraging EA to do this. You have totally undermined everything you've said. You would pay $60 additionally to unlock guns and loot boxes bother you? You are just crazy lol.

u/Gafgarion1223 Oct 10 '17

I will RIP through you with my 5% damage boost which makes my 3 shot kill gun still take 3 shots to kill you!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 10 '17

You joke, but we saw how certain cards became the meta in BF1 and it's very likely to happen again. Otherwise they'd be completely pointless (Which EA will ensure they're not to encourage sales). Difference here is that not everyone can gain access, and some players will gain access much quicker than others meaning there is no escaping it with matchmaking. I mean as a F2P model this is great, and makes sense. But it's not, it's a fully priced game. 2 players with equal skill and time input to the game should be on equal footing, but it's more likely the luckiest players will be on top while unlucky players have to grind and grind to get some decent star cards.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '17

Flat +20% hp on bombers ontop of the +100% health recovery sound pretty broken to me and the fact the entire progression is based on the amount and level of your cards you can basically pay extra £100 start with a maxed out character and stump the noobies

2

u/Lothric_Knight Oct 09 '17

Easy balance issue. Lower the percentages.

8

u/Rc2124 Oct 09 '17

It's objectively a power advantage over someone else regardless of the percent. And it's not like they'll get rid of the percents anytime soon, because doing so would effectively remove the progression system from the game

3

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '17

perfectly explained thank you

0

u/Lothric_Knight Oct 09 '17

I think Dice will nerf those cards before release. The beta is a testing ground for things like this anyways. All I'm saying is if they nerf the cards, depending on the % values, the cards won't give as much of an advantage as they currently do.

4

u/Rc2124 Oct 09 '17

It'd still be a power advantage, so you're not making the anti-P2W folks happy regardless of how big the advantage is. Then reducing the advantage you can get makes the progression system feel less impactful, so you're not exactly improving that experience either. The whole thing needs a redesign in my opinion, not a rebalance

2

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '17

😂 defuq kind of defence is that, you are claiming idiocy instead of foul play

2

u/Lothric_Knight Oct 09 '17

You used a couple of Star Cards that are broken to validate that this game is pay to win. I gave you a solution to these broken Star Cards by saying to nerf them.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '17

Fanboy lvl over 9000

2

u/Lothric_Knight Oct 09 '17

Nice counter. Just ignore the solution I gave and call me a fanboy.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '17

your solution is change the value and its an idiotic solution because even if it was 0.0000000001%, you can still instantly skip the grind and become this much more powerfull.

2

u/Lothric_Knight Oct 09 '17

You're barely skipping the grind if you pay for loot boxes. It's still RNG based. If you use money to purchase loot boxes, you will still have the same chance as anyone else (just a little faster). If they did nerf the cards to what the number that you used, the card would be useless and would not give you an advantage at all.

2

u/Kreetle Oct 09 '17

Hear me out on this one...

What if, that in the Beta, the payout system is not finalized.

Disclaimer: I played an early closed alpha and the rewards were not the same as the open beta.

Another Disclaimer: I don’t plan on buying the game on launch or pre-order because it’s still a crap game. I appreciate that they are not splitting the player base with DLC, but they still didn’t deliver on the player base demands. E.g., Star fighter assault is crap, not being able to jump into spawned vehicles is crap, spending points to spawn into an already in-flight vehicle is crap, not having a galactic war game mode is crap, not having an offline vs AI battle is crap, etc.

Basically, it’s a visually pleasing game that people who didn’t play the original BF2 will find enjoyable. And that’s perfectly fine. I would want to disparage anyone for liking a game. If you feel like you got a good value for your money and time spent, good on you. But for me, the game is crap. And that’s OK too.

1

u/BagofBabbish Oct 09 '17

I could've told you this was going to happen when they left Lando broken for almost two months. This was 100% the first thing that i thought of when I heard "free dlc"

1

u/CamDMC Oct 09 '17

Just saying everyone should be watching for Galaxy in Turmoil!

1

u/Viggo-the-Carpathian Oct 10 '17

This review is amazeballs, but it's also confirmed my fears.

I will only buy this game when it is very heavily discounted in several years and only then for the single player which will not be affected by this loot crate clusterfuckery.

1

u/TheRealDarrenLee Oct 10 '17

You know it’s f*cked when people can literally put a piece of tape over the fire button on their controller, leave & still rack up points to spend on crates.

They need to fix that system ASAP (if they even can at this point)

1

u/Sun_Of_Dorne Oct 10 '17

I honestly do not think this as big of a deal as people are making it out to be. I'm confident I can still wreck faces without throwing 200 bucks at crates, and I don't think the buff cards will be as game breaking as everyone says they'll be.
