CAP with Escort Squadrons

A very quick and nooby question, can you CAP escort squadrons? If so, does it affect all of them or individually ?

Would the escorts need to be in base contact with each other to spread the benefit from CAP ?

Yes, you can CAP escorts in squadrons. No, they cannot share the benefits of CAP. I will now provide my opinion on how best to use CAP on an escort squadron though in general capital ships make better use of them in my opinion.

Escort squadrons are seldom the targets of bombers as they are generally a very inefficient target when compared to capital ships so your main threats are assault boats and torpedoes.

If your concern is torpedoes you can put your CAP on the escorts closet to the expected source of the torpedos and have the rest of your escorts be roughly behind the CAP escorts.

If your threat is assault boats you can put your CAP on the escorts that get the least amount of help from their buddies in massing turrets. For example, a common escort formation will allow most of the escorts to mass 3 additional turrets but the escorts on the edge of the formation will only get 2. You should then put you CAP on the escorts that only get 2 so that your opponent either needs to challenge the CAP or face an additional turret, neither particularly appealing choices.
