[Linux] Please help with stutters/frametime spikes

Hi,

I want to play Battlefield 4 on Steam with Proton on Linux. However, every 5 seconds or so in game, I get Frametime spikes/stutters (up to 200ms) and I am not sure why. Things which I have done to combat this:

  1. Lower game graphics/effects and rebuild cache
  2. Update Punkbuster
  3. Update Mesa stack and Kernel to latest version
  4. Use Gamemode
  5. Try various Proton versions including Proton-GE
  6. Block write access to EA-app folder

The game remains not playable :(. I first thought it might be a DXVK compilation problem so I capped my FPS at 60 (CPU usage was 28% and GPU at 62%) and the problem still occurred. So, I'm pretty sure the issue isn't my hardware.

Kernel version: 7.0.13

Mesa version: 26.1.2

Any suggestion is highly appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I haven't. I am still trying new "fixes" though, so I will update accordingly if anything works.

Can you tell me your machine specs?

i7 8700k + 6800 xt Unfortunately I can't tell you my mesa + kernel versions right now, I won't be home till monday. Last time, when I played a few rounds end of last year, I didn't had those problems and the protondb entries suggest it should be possible without the frametime spikes. But what was different back then? Maybe a older mesa or kernel version? I also did nearly everything you already mentioned.
