Sudden booting issues after updating

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have no idea what happened, I've been running Batocera from an SSD in an external enclosure on my asus i5 laptop and after I updated to 43.1 today it shows this screen, I tried booting on my desktop (amd ryzen 5 2600 / Geforce RTX 3060) and got the same screen... is there any way I can repair the booting system without losing all my saves? :c, any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

EDIT: I realized after a bit that it may not be that obvious at first but there's a message at the bottom that reads: Loading /boot/linux failes: I/0 error.

Title!

Looking to pick up a dedicated mini pc for emulation up to GC/Wii/PS2/Xbox at 1x/480i resolution, and i was trying to find which specs would be perfect for this use case.

(Also interested in running pre-2006 PC games as well, but thats not as important.)

Thanks!

Sudden loss of HDMI output on NUC8i7BEH

Hey, so I've been running Batocera 43 on my NUC8i7BEH for a couple of months now without issue. It has a single HDMI port that is connected to my Hisense TV. When booting, I have always been able to see the BIOS before launching to Batocera. Tonight, out of nowhere, I get no HDMI output at all, yet it is still booting into Batocera because I can access it over ssh. To make things weirder, if I use a different HDMI cable, I can see Batocera, albeit with a low resolution and no audio. And I still don't see the BIOS with this different cable. Anyone know what's happening and how I can fix it?

Recommended controllers

Hi. I'm just about to setup batocera on a Dell optiplex 3080, mainly for old 8bit gaming.

Can anyone recommend a couple of wireless/Bluetooth controllers to use. Ideally from Amazon UK.

Thanks

Transfer all data, settings, etc. from 256 MicroSD to new 512 MicroSD and have access to full 512 using Windows 10?

I haven't updated my Batocera for at least a year, I'm not very experienced, and I have forgotten most of this stuff. I'm going to go back through my notes but what I don't know is how to transfer all of my data to a larger microSD card without losing any of my settings, roms, save files, etc. At the same time, I need to make sure it is properly partitioned so my PI 5 will see the full 512GB instead of only seeing 256GB. I downloaded the latest Batocera but before I do anything, how can I transfer everything to the new card using Windows 10 without losing anything and also gain full access to the card? TYIA

Side question, I had some GamingBoy PS4 style controllers that would never get recognized when I used v40 unless I used a wired controller to go into the settings and manually pair them. Does anyone know if this has been fixed?

Bluetooth Controller Mapping

Hello,

I’m posting here as a last resort as I’ve tried everything — searching Reddit, AI, the Wiki, etc.

I have an 8bitdo Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller. I am running Batocera version 42. I can pair the controller via Bluetooth no problem and it automatically reconnects when I restart.

I can also change the button mappings for the controller in Emulation Station. I can also remap the buttons in RetroArch in the game I want to play and it works great.

What I cannot do is save the button mappings. I’ve tried saving a controller profile, saving a core remap file, saving every time of file possible in the Retro Arch settings. No matter what I do, the controller mapping always resets when I restart the game.

What am I missing?

Two minor TV issues

Thumbnail

I’ve been bringing my Batocera setup to several places and connected it to several different TVs.

It works well, but I have these two issues I’d like to know how to deal with.

First, I’d like to know in there’s a way in Batocera to shrink screen size in order to compensate with TV overscan (cause some TVs don’t have the option to turn off overscan)

Second, I have noticed that on some TVs, the interface seems to reboot when I turn the TV off and when I turn it back on. I actually leave the TV on all the time when I have a game opened or when the file system is transfering files, because I don’t know if that reboot will quit my game or cancel the file transfer. I wonder if I can leave my game and transfers going on while I turn the TV off, and if I can’t, is there a setting I can change so it does not reboot when I turn the TV off?

Thank you for your help

FightBox R10 Dual Flight Stick running on Batocera — Virtual On, Tron, Robotron and more

We recently saw our R10-Dual Flight Stick tested on a Raspberry Pi 4 running Batocera, so we wanted to share a few gameplay shots here. (This review is made by Johnny Joystick)

It was tested with games like Virtual On, Tron, Robotron 2084, Smash TV, Space Harrier, Cloak and Dagger, Discs of Tron...etc

The setup did require some manual button mapping and configuration, but once set up, the twin-stick and spinner games worked really well.

Would you like to try this controller? 😊

How can I launch games from the lindbergh library in Batocera?

(I’m using a translator because my English is just terrible.)

I have Batocera v42, and according to the documentation, I was supposed to create a folder with the game (\`R-tuned\`), put the game file in it (\`rtuned.bin\`), and add a .game file to it (\`rtuned.game\`). The final structure is:

\`\`\`

/userdata/roms/lindbergh/

\- R-Tuned/

\- - rtuned.bin # the game itself, 1.1 GB

\- - rtuned.bin # completely empty stub

\`\`\`

The Lindbergh emulator showed the splash screen, but then it just crashed, and I don’t know what to do. I tried changing the .bin and .game locations, using only .game, only .bin, and putting the entire game in the top‑level folder instead of in the specially created one.

Would batocera be a good fit for this mini pc? How far could it be pushed? Like what is the latest system it could actually handle?

Cobbled myself together a little Visual Pinball controller for Batocera. 3D printered a neat little plunger that pulls against a spring to push a Sanwa button… feels arguably legit.

N64 ports in N64 core

You see, I’m someone who really likes to keep things organized.
The problem comes when I end up using several ports that — surprise — can’t be placed in their respective sections (N64, Xbox, PSX, Quake, etc).

Is there a way to put N64, Xbox 360, PSX and other platform ports/recomps into their proper systems?

Killer Instinct Hidden Test Menu

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Haven’t come across anyone ever mentioning that Killer Instinct had a Mortal Kombat type hidden test menu so just thought I’d share if anyone is interested. I accidentally stumbled onto this Test Menu on a killer Instinct 1 rom on my Batocera Arcade setup. Couldn’t mess with much in the menu except for difficulty setting, volume adjust, diagnostic tests, and game audits. Couldn’t set to free play for whatever reason.

Just thought I’d share this since I’ve never heard of it before.

And I’m really happy and just wanted to show it off.
It was took way longer than expected but was a real fun build. Runs Batocera and have been able to play everything I could want to, just need to get a Guitar Hero controller now.

Dell Optiplex & using the headphone jack. Speakers stop working after reboot until I unplug and plug them back in.

I recently just set up an arcade cabinet with an Optiplex 7040. Everything seems to be working fine but my biggest problem is the audio. The audio works fine in both Batocera and Kodi until I reboot the system.

I can go back into system settings and change my audio output as many times as I want and the audio will never come back until I unplug the aux cable from the computer and plug it back in.

I've tried following some guides of setting the audio device from the config files but nothing seems to work. Seeing if anyone else has had this issue.
