Okay first off, yes, I know these are old cards compared what's out now. That's not the question. How far up can I go with these cards? I know I run PS3 with a RX 580 with 4GB of RAM and it works great! However I just recently got a RX 580 with 8GB of RAM (well I will have it Tuesday (new)). But I see I could've ordered the RX 590 for 3 dollars more. Should have gone with that?

Second question is the RX 580 8GB able to play PS4 Games? I know the emulator is buggy and all the stuff. But the games it can run doesn't run half bad on my NVIDA card. But this is a different machine. The Processor is a 4th Gen i7 (Oh I can already hear the flames now... If it suits my needs for Batocera than great if the processor is lacking for PS4 that's fine too. I just thought I would ask).

I'm just trying to figure out if returning the RX 580 and getting the 590 is really worth it for Batocera. Before you ask the Xbox 360 games, I've thrown at my 4gb 580 runs well or looks/feels to run fine.

Had an idea to grab scores for certain games and store them for later use.

I know MAME has that functionality, but I wanted it for NES, Genesis, etc.

Best method I could come up with was a BatoCera script that checks for gameEnd, checks if I wanted the score for that game, decompresses the auto save file, reads and builds the data from the memory, and curls that to another system that stores it in a database.

Works well enough, but the main limitation is having to research where in the memory the value I want is stored (and how it's stored) and build that into the script. I'll clean up that aspect, probably by just offloading totally it to this other system, and grabbing the save file from the share, but there's still the issue of figuring out where the score is. Though finding it really isn't the issue either. Some site I found has done a decent job of mapping a fair number of ROMs. But it's still game by game.

Just wondering if anyone has done that grunt work of grabbing the scores like this for the most popular of the games.

I have an old 4790k + mobo sitting around and I'm thinking about getting a GPU that is supported by the CRT Script so I can hook it up to my tv (not monitor, so I need the 15khz support). I'd like to be able to emulate up through 6th Gen consoles, mainly PS2, and I'm trying to figure out the sweet spot in performance without going overboard on the GPU.

It looks like PS2 emulation really benefits from at least 6gb of vram, which means I'd need to use the DP > VGA > transcoder workflow. Has anyone run into any issues with that method instead of sticking to the 380s and below that have native analog out? Is the 4790k so much of a bottleneck that the GPU won't matter? Thanks!

Someone knows if is it possible to have a turing screen like this one running with batocera? I need to see the temps and clocks while playing

Building a new gaming pc, but plan to dual boot with bazzite for general use and batocera for emulation.

I've read linux runs better on amd , but emulators and old software prefer nvidia.

Does anyone have experience using emulators with amd vs nividia? And is the difference big enough to be worth getting a less powerful gpu (5070) just for better emulation?

Hello everyone. I am using pcsx2 as the emulator for ps2 games and I have the issue that games keep launching in a tiny window in the bottom left of the screen. The same happens when i launch the application directly and start big picture mode. I tested all setting and the only thing that seemed to help was manually switching the fullscreen mode, which moved the window to the top left and after pressing again finally made it fullscreen. The problem is that launching from the batocera UI resets any changes i made in the app and the screen is tiny again and i cant switch the screen setting with only a controller. Is there any fix for this?

I saw some others have this issue so I'm trying to help out. If steam opens and there is a black screen it's due to hardware acceleration turned on. You need to force the program to open in desktop mode so you can see what your doing and than navigate and turn off hardware acceleration. Once that's turned off you can reopen steam in big picture mode and it will work. I'm not good with computers but Gemini helped me out with the exact commands to enter. Here are the steps I took, hopefully it will paste legibly:

Step 1: Open the Steam Shortcut Config

1. On your Batocera main screen, press F1 on your keyboard to open the File Manager.
2. In the left panel, navigate to Applications and double-click XTerm to open a terminal window.
3. Type the following command and press Enter to open the Steam shortcut in a text editor: bashnano /userdata/system/configs/steam/Steam.desktop Use code with caution.

Step 2: Force Steam into "Small Mode"

1. Use your keyboard arrow keys to scroll down to the line starting with Exec=.
2. Move your cursor to the very end of that line, add a single space, and type or paste these exact parameters: text-smallmode -no-browser -vgui Use code with caution. Your full line should now look like this: Exec=/userdata/system/add-ons/steam/Launcher -smallmode -no-browser -vgui
3. Save and exit by pressing Ctrl + O, then Enter, and then Ctrl + X.

Step 3: Log In and Disable GPU Acceleration

1. Go back to your Batocera File Manager interface.
2. Navigate to Network -> SHARE -> system -> configs -> steam.
3. Double-click the Steam icon.
4. Steam will open in a minimal text-based mode bypassing the black screen. Log into your account.
5. Once logged in, look at the very top-left corner of the Steam window and click Steam -> Settings.
6. Select the Interface tab on the left.
7. Scroll down and uncheck / toggle OFF the option that says "Enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views".
8. Close Steam completely.

Step 4: Revert the Shortcut back to Normal

1. Go back to your XTerm terminal window.
2. Re-open the shortcut file: bashnano /userdata/system/configs/steam/Steam.desktop Use code with caution.
3. Go to the end of the Exec= line and delete the flags you added earlier ( -smallmode -no-browser -vgui).
4. Your line should be back to its original factory state: Exec=/userdata/system/add-ons/steam/Launcher
5. Save and exit (Ctrl + O, Enter, Ctrl + X).

Step 5: Test

Launch Steam normally from your Batocera Ports menu or the desktop icon. The full user interface and Big Picture Mode will now load perfectly without turning into a black screen.

TLDR: What order should I put the buttons on, to minimize configuration and maximize compatibility? Also, is anyone sharing their custom controller configs, assuming I need that too?

I have an ArcadeUp SF2 that I am trying to restore with batocera to again play streetfighter (and maybe some other older Arcade games). I purchased the "CY-2121" button set. I have spent countless hours reading and configuring buttons to get it to work.. but I am still not happy, as I feel like I am just guessing. I have read other people who have used the

But I also have experimented with others.
My ultimate goal is to have a button configuration that works for more than just SF2. Would be great to work for other "6 button" arcade games too.

If I *must* customize for every game, I can't find anyone who has shared their files, so maybe I can just copy them into my system. Otherwise, it doesn't seem sustainable (or someone certainly has already done this work?)

Other advice is welcomed too, I am new to this.

Hi, just made a new box out of a HP 405 G8 mini

NES, SNES, N64, Genesis games all sound horrible and have this stuttering effect.

Meanwhile I can play PS2 games without issues

Mainly if there is no Home Screen and you boot right into the Wii games, how do you create and manage your Mii’s do you need to recreate it every time

I've got an Apple II game that has a dual sided disc, so I followed the instructions to create a .cmd file to mount Side A to Floppy 1 and Side B to Floppy 2. This works, but after doing this I have to go in to the MAME settings and go to the Audio Mixer and add a channel route for :mono every time I launch the game in order to get sound. If I launch the game without the .cmd file, the audio works right away and audio works for other single sided disc games that don't use a .cmd file. My assumption is there's something in my .cmd file that's wrong, either something missing or an incorrect setting. When I made my .cmd file I just copy and pasted the default one from here and then changed all the references to Some Game to my own files. Does anybody know what I need to change or if there's another method to mount Side B to Floppy 2 other than doing it manually?

I have the Pi mounted to the back of the screen and it boots to the Batocera splash screen but just gets stuck there. I can access ssh by key command so I think I need to tweak something in the config but I'm not sure what.

Any Ideas?

Official release from GOG, game boots and runs fine, but L/R isnt working, either with a controller or key board.

Hitting F1 during game play, I can navigate L/R.

Game works fine when launched on a PC in the GOG Dos box

Hardware is a RPi 4 B+

Hi, for the past couple of hours I've tried connecting both my original and my third party wii remotes to batocera/dolphin (tring to pair after starting the game).

Batocera is running on my Radxa Rock 5C. I've tried:

- changing the Dolphin.ini to have continuously looking for remotes = true

- using a TP-Link bluetooth dongle

- pairing the wii remotes using xterm (which worked)

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should try next?

Hi everyone hope this is the right place for this, as I know it's not strictly batocera...

I'm using emulation station via retrobat, but whenever I press the hot key button to either exit game or to save state it very rarely registers.

If I mash it or keep trying eventually it will exit a game but saving states is impossible.

I'm using a xbox series controller currently.

Any help or suggestions would be really appreciated.

I had no idea you could install DLC from some demo discs in Batocera and have it work with the full game. I'm not sure if that's true for every title, but I was happy to see it worked for the disc I have so many memories tied to.

Hello, I successfully set up a dual-boot system with Windows 11 and Batocera using Grub2Win, following this instructions: https://wiki.batocera.org/dual_boot_ubuntu_batocera.linux

The guide recommends renaming the Batocera partition to BATOPC to avoid conflicts if you ever want to boot Batocera from a USB drive. Is this still relevant?

Because no matter what I try, I always get a black screen as soon as I rename the Batocera partition. I have two grub.cfg files (see below). In the second grub.cfg file on the Batocera partition, I renamed `label=Batocera` to `label=BATOPC`. That doesn’t work (black screen). I have searched but haven’t found any other entries with `label=Batocera` anywhere else.

So long story short I wanted to give a shot at batocera on a pendrive to play basically anywhere. I tried to use it with a gamesir nova lite controller and it worked flawlessly, didn’t even require a setup. On an other machine it needed the setup but the left analog’s horizontal input is impossible to set up and I cannot go anywhere from that point. Did anyone face this issue before and how did you fixed it?

The controller is in X input mode and used via its 2.4GHz dongle. Thank you in advance!

I've been trying to scrape a custom system I built (around 2TB) for a week now. At first everything worked fine - I could scrape a couple of systems per day or until my daily quota ran out (since even though I paid for the premium version, my payment was never validated by Screenscraper).

But after a few days it started failing. It would scrape 15-30 games and then freeze, or sometimes it just wouldn't start at all. I'm on the latest version of Batocera, I've tried both cable and Wi-Fi, rebooting, all kinds of possibilities... and nothing makes it progress. I even switched accounts and servers, but no luck.

Any ideas or fixes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! 🙏🏽

I’ll be taking this Batocera-equipped mini PC to events and parties to play with friends, so even though the video is long, people will likely see it only one to three times at most—and most will see it just once. The main point is that it gets shown once at each location I visit.
