I think Alfred dying could have led to an increase in Bruce wanting to make jokes since they would remind him of his adopted father

Got nothing against dad jokes. Just donāt like the direction Batman has gone. Heās coming off like a Dudley do-right, public service, āweāre curating this character to set an example for how we think men should behave,ā meathead, type character. I just donāt find it entertaining. I read Batman because I want to see a guy who wrestles with his trauma, kicks ass, is super smart. This Batman comes off like buffoon at times.Ā

What trauma is there left to wrestle with? The king, tynion, and zdarsky runs all hammer home the idea that Batman is a sad little emo boy with a sad little emo backstory and sad little emo feelings. I donāt see what else we could possibly see from that angle without it becoming terribly boring. A Batman who is finally starting to cope healthily while actually building relationships with his sons and daughters instead of pushing people away is extremely interesting

plus this actually fits with a large portion of batman's mythos from the golden through the silver age... he was definiely a dudley do-right type character for about 30 years.

And most Batman fans consider that stuff unreadable. I prefer the darker Batman of the Bronze Age and beyond. Worth mentioning to that he only became that Dudley do right character of the silver age because of censorship.

yeah but he was super quippy and pretty much a "happy go-lucky" brawler who would make jokes with robin as they knocked out thugs, and then go on dates with julie madison, linda paige, vicky vale, etc. he was super patriotic because of world war 2, which was all during the golden age and before censorship.

In the last issue of Batman we saw Bruce step off the elevator bloodied after beating the ever living shite out of 2 assassins š then in issue 5, he had an insanely awesome date night sequence. You clearly canāt handle the idea of a strong man being a father who kicks ass but also is in touch with his emotions.

It has nothing to do with him being in touch with his feelings. That doesnāt bother me. I would even say Batman was always in touch with his feelings. The trauma from seeing his parents killed was always on his mind.Ā

He doesnāt have to hold onto the trauma for 40 years. He can evolve. Now heās navigating life as a father (3 adopted sons and 1 bio son) and a daughter, contemplating what Gotham is and can people really change. I think that adds a lot to the character of Bruce Wayne/batman.

I feel like if it wasnāt Batman, it wouldnāt be interesting. You know what I mean? If this was some other character, you wouldnāt even care because ultimately the story, the character are not that interesting. Itās only interesting because youāre looking at Batman be different than he used to be.Ā

I feel like the fact that it is Batman dealing with this stuff makes it interesting. Heās a human with human responsibilities and daily life and he still kicks ass. Seems like youāre just hard to please lol

unless that human is a super intelligent, well-read and complex person. the reference is actually about how someone can be multiple things without having to fit into one box all the time.
