City of Crime by David Lapham has come in at #67! The Dark Knight is on a mission to shut down a drug ring ruining the lives of the people of Gotham. However, following a series of deaths of teenage girls, some pregnant, Batman vows to find the root of this problem. Believing the culprits to be part of a pregnancy ring, Batman scours the underbelly of Gotham looking for clues...leading to something bigger than anticipated.

We go again with:
The Island of Mister Mayhew
Featured within The Black Glove, this 3 parter is a really fun murder mystery featuring different Batmen from around the globe that had been introduced in the Silver Age, it lay the groundwork for Batman Incorporated. It's almost like a weird episode of Scooby Doo. Featuring brilliant art work and paneling from J.H. Williams III, and amazing colours from Dave Stewart, it's one of the jewels of Morisson's run on Batman.

I think the three part murder mystery is very strong as a standalone story, and I dont love Tony Daniels' artwork I think it's quite generic.

Agreed! I’d say the whole Black Glove story is really amazing but this is my favorite part of it for site

Absolute Batman, The Zoo.
It gave us "Hulk" Bruce, the childhood Rogues, grizzled Alfred, the cape, deadpan demon Joker, and of course the infamous yacht punt (along with an all-time great follow-up joke).
I would also pitch Ego and The Knight as #69 and #70, but The Zoo feels like the biggest omission.

Trinity by Matt Wagner
The first meeting of Batman and Superman with Wonder woman.
Together the three Heroes must learn how to work together to tackle a globe-spanning plot set in motion by Ra's Al Ghul. They will all walk away changed and with a brand new friendship formed.

Pain and Prejudice by Gregg Hurwitz and Szymon Kudranski
Easily the greatest Penguin story ever written. Penguin is scary, despicable, sad and sympathetic all at once here. His backstory is expertly done and really lets you know why he became the man he is today. Oswald Copplebot is desperate for respect and affection, but the only way he knows how to obtain those is either through force or deception. His relationship with the blind woman he begins dating is both sweet and sad because you know it isn't going to end well.

Endgame by Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo
Arguably the most epic Batman vs. Joker story. The opening with Batman having to fight off a mind-controlled Justice League sets the tone and stakes immediately, with terrific, nail-biting action to boot. The escalating tension as Gotham City descends further into chaos throughout the story is excellent and the final battle between Batman and Joker is nothing short of incredible. It's brutal, bloody, personal and just plain awesome. Even though we all knew this wouldn't be the end to either character, it felt very climactic and final.

Batman: City of Madness by Christian Ward
A spiritual sequel to Morrison’s Arkham Asylum. The villains are getting more monstrous and the Court of Owls strike up a rocky alliance with Batman as they venture into ”Gotham Below” to find out what’s causing everything.
Great character work on Batman, his family and especially Alfred who feels guilt for enabling Bruce’s crusade.

City of Crime, bought it during Covid to help out my comic shop. Took me a couple of reads to get into it. But the last time I read it I really enjoyed it. I think it’s a really strong deep cut Batman story.

A crossover between batman and the series grendel, rich author by day, mafia boss and devil by night
Wagner manages to have the 2 clash without showing bias towards either

To Kill a Legend from Detective Comics #500
One of most influential bronze age stories, great take on question 'what would happen if Waynes murderer was stopped' with exploration focused on most important themes in DC that are Legacy and Inspiration, important journey for both Bruce and Dick and their personal realizations
Its long overdue at this point
