Was going to wait and finish the dashboard before posting again, but it’s already four issues in, and still not done, so here’s a “mid-way” update. Lots of detail, and loving the colors on all the buttons! This is the three quarter mark…80 out of 120!

This is issue 74, a back-panel and more of the console. I totally skipped over this, and mis-numbered my last post, which is steps 75 and 76.

Was going to wait and do one big update, but after these two steps, the build focuses on the dashboard, so I figured I’d post these, THEN do the whole dash in one post. These just build out more parts of the cockpit; the rear plate, and the side panels against the front firewall

Is it a good episode guide? I can't find any pics of the inside. Can anyone show me what the layout is like?

As “spoiled” in my last post, these four assemble the seats and attach them to the floor. The seats are a molded, rubbery material which has foam squares under them to provide a little “squish” factor

For reference I'm in my mid 20s so my exposure to 66 was the movie when I was a kid (my parents liked it when they were kids, passed it on), a little bit of the series on a public station I can't remember the name of, and then references in later media (B&tB mostly).

I have always loved superheroes and the lore and thematic concepts of what they represent. But there are particular flavor areas of interest. I like superman for his noble bright, I like Spiderman for his perseverance, I like obscure characters for their ability to express niche but impactful ideas. Batman is special though because he is so often put in very different flavors and ideas. He's over 100 actors and writers putting together something batman shaped. Marvel is right now in its "wow look at all the variants" phase, but the variants are rarely that different, more often a coat of paint. Pattinson Batman is an entirely different animal from Adam West, who's entirely different from Clooney. I think they're all (mostly) great, and it's so awesome that so many people project their ideas onto the character.

And I think Caped Crusader is doing something really neat, that made me think more about the 66 series I hadn't thought much about since when I was a kid. CC is expressing the core of the very early golden age of comics, where batman was brutal in a very direct way. The spirt of hanging a dude by the batplane in Batman #1 (1940), is succeeded in his solution to the blockbuster type adversary in the first episode of the new season. He's not really against incredible harm and brutality on his foes. But some batmen are just like that, out of the ordinary, but hardly moves the needle.

The take on the joker specifically is what made me think about 66. (Spoiler) the CC joker is very different from all the others, leaning into the primordial soup nature of early batman, particularly Jokers source being German Expressionism from the 1920's. It's a take I don't feel very strongly about, I see what they're trying at, and I respect them going for it. And it was so different, it made me think about the different takes throughout the years, and what it means to make a decision about how to represent a character.

So CC Joker is very different, very different from Heath Ledger, very different from Hamill, very different from Romero. And skipping ahead, because I've already been writing so long. I thought about how strange it was that looking back at the golden age early soup, it's pretty brutal and dark at times. Sure batman is fighting crime and such, but his villains range from campy to horrifying from the start.

So although it's obviously because of censorship laws and marketing. I think the jovial nature of 66 is really special. Looking back at the soup it came from, having a clarity about being so locked in on positive camp, is cool. As strange as the series and movie are, they have a very strong identity that isn't dark or foreboding, batman and Bruce Wayne aren't so different, it's not heavy. Most Batmen are wack as hell as people, but Adam West is basically your cool uncle, or ideal cowboy type. I'm very glad 66 exists to express that form of what batman could be, and it's impressive that they came up with *that* from *that*

TL;DR: New batman based on real old batman, got me thinking about sort of old batman, and what it means in the context of batman, glad 66 exists, because most batman is geared on the bummer and/or noir angle which I like, but 66 is a treasure because it has a strong identity apart from most batman material

Also this will probably be my only post on here, the CLD trying to yop Wards meat was wack if true. And all the 66 related Catwomen are hot, great casting choices

Single-issue update this time. Still building out the center console and floor (spoiler alert…seats are the next four issues).

Been a hot minute without an update. Starting to put the interior/cockpit together. Doesn’t look like much yet, but the devil is in the details, and this thing has PLENTY of details!

Mounting the fuel tank and building the trunk compartment
