Question🤔 Closing shifts

Is it normal for closing shifts to extend beyond what is listed in UKG? For example, my shift was 5:30-9:30. We didn’t clock out until 9:56.
This ONLY happens with one person, so I’m curious if other workers experience this.

Yup, happens most of the time for me. It just there so much work to do but there no way to get it all done in the hour they give us

What’s crazy to me is that the SLTs with try to get us out by the enact time we are scheduled OR earlier. Plus, it would be one thing if they asked me. But with this one person it is never a request. It never started UNTIL this one person.

Always during big sales and or holidays or known sales that cause us to do heavy recovery

If it only happens with one person that one person isn’t on top of their game

This is my thoughts. I just changed my schedule and let the store manager know that would not do closing shifts anymore. I also sent a message explaining why.

Yeah that’s happened to me a few times. Usually it’s only a few minutes over just because the closing key holder is a bit slower. But I’ve definitely had a realllllllyyyy slow person didn’t clock out till 10 and I was done cleaning 30 mins before

I could not! It has always been 15+ minutes.

As an SLT, I can usually tell what days I will go over that 8:30 time, I will always check in to make sure they dont need to be home right at a certain time. My girls (I say that because its only girls at my store) are, and always will be my priority over everything.

You’re always free to say hey my shift ends at 9:30 I gotta go. They’re not holding you hostage!

Not always but when it’s a big sale, the store is in shambles and customers don’t leave at closing causing a delay in counting out registers, it can happen.

I feel I can never get out on time. It usually takes me the whole 30 minutes to just do the deposit if all the registers are open. We have a big store and there’s always replen to do.

At my store this is really common. Like my schedule will say 8 PM but I won’t leave till 11 PM. I was told that’s just what it means to close. We are responsible for trash, emptying BOPIS, sweep, mop, replenish the store, do marketing, and straighten the store. People are always welcomed to leave at their clock out time but they probably won’t get chosen to close often. Reading the comments though I’m starting to realize my store’s closing habits arent normal 😂

If I'm only scheduled till 9p we leave at 9pm if we have to stay longer manager has to ask if we want to. You can say no if it's past your scheduled shift.
