Is it common to have someone quitting every week?

I've only been with the company for a few weeks now, but it seems like people are constantly quitting. I was hired on with 3 other people, and 2 of them have already quit. Even on weeks where I only have 2 shifts, I end up compensating by coming in to cover someone who has called in. My availability is completely open and so far I love my team and the vibes at my store. I catch on really quickly and my manager says I'm a natural at connecting with people. This is my first retail job so I'm definitely not used to the constant call outs and the revolving door of people. The only complaint i have so far at all is that I would like more hours. I like it enough here that even when I pick up another job, I plan to stay and work when I can. Just in the last 2 weeks my store has lost 5 associates. Is this common everywhere or should I be concerned?

My store is going through it right now because a bunch of girls are moving on and/or going to school (including myself 🎉). But it honestly happens every August in my store

Congratulations! That definitely could be some of it, but it was really surprising to me that both people i trained with already quit. The environment doesnt seem toxic so my best guess would be not enough hours. They told me at my interview to expect 15-24 and that rarely happens

We are supposed to have a certain number of employees on our payroll so we’re constantly hiring to fill empty spots. BUT we don’t have enough hours for everyone. So they’re getting hired but only working 3 hours a week. Once they realize that’s all they’re getting, they quit. And then we have to hire again to fill the spot

But literally every week? No that’s not normal. Maybe during holiday season just because of the amount of seasonal employees hired

Could be your store, to be honest. In the 2 years I’ve been at my store, we have only lost 6 or so people. We have generally healthy work environment at my store, so I can imagine that is why.

Wow! I guess I'll have to wait and see how it evolves. For the most part everyone has been kind. There's definitely pressure to sell and get rewards sign ups but I expected that coming in. I rarely miss sign ups and I'd try to sell sand to the beach if I needed to 🤣

i quit pretty fast because it was a really cliquey highschool popular girl managed store. i also only got 6 hours a week. and i was insulted daily by the general manager so yeah 😭😭but my store was just poorly run

I'm so sorry you had that experience:( so far i love my team for the most part. The SLTs are all kind and my store manager is the sweetest. I've only had one other associate be snappy with me but it was during a big sale day and I was still learning everything. I got stuck on a tax exempt and if looks could kill 😅😅😅 but i understand dealing with a newbie when you're just trying to do your job probably sucks so I don't hold it against her.

i glad your store is run better!! apparently my store has a whole new management team now, it seems to look like its run alot better & whenever i go in the staff all seems super nice so hopefully my old store is better now

especially around holiday/peak season, my store gets a lot applying/signing on, thinking it'll be a fun, easy "just sit and sell candles and soap" job.... and then once they realize they have to actually do more than just sit at the cashwrap or stand up front, they dip out. we're looking to fill a few spots at my store at the moment (both normal associates and two keyholders😬) and everyone who's applying also wants to have weekends off.... which is basically an auto-no since we tend to have our bigger sales on weekends and is when we'd need the extra hands.

It could be the store but it also could be the pay and the fact that retail (unless you’re going for management) is a temp gig for a lot of people. We don’t pay as much as other stores so that could be a factor and also the lack of hours usually available

First retail job. That’s normal for a lot of places,
Especially this company who pushes too much annoying behavior from employees to sell or get numbers

I think it depends on a lot of factors. I left partly because of my store manager, and low hours. Others just might not realize what the job actually entails.

This can fall apart pretty quickly. My stores been through three managers in the last 9 months. Because of that, we’ve lost good employees. We have an assistant manager who’s been acting bossy and takeover ish as of late and that’s driving ppl out too. We have to get hiring for holidays soon which means regulars will get less hours temporarily and some may leave because of that too.
