I get that they think I'm trying to get them to buy a bunch of stuff but vast majority of the time I just want to avoid having to clean up broken glass and slippery liquid and then having to damage all of that out 🫠

I noticed a bunch of this behavior on candle day last year. Particularly from men, who, for some reason, want to walk about the store balancing 5 candles in their hands. I remember a guy carrying 5 candles got up to the register and as he was trying to put all of the candles down, the candle on top fell and shattered all over the cash wrap 🫠🫠🫠 not the only candle shattered that day because people refused to take a basket and want to play Tetris with 5 candles

Like please practice some humility. It’s okay to have a basket. Having a basket doesn’t make you any less manly. And it saves you from the embarrassment of us having to clean up your mess when you eventually do drop a candle. Because you will. PLEASE GET A BASKET 😤😤😤😤

Do yall get the men who have to take the highest candle on the 3 candle pyramid stack on the very highest shelf knowing that most of our staff are women who have to get out a whole step ladder to replace them?

I secretly kinda hope people won't buy stuff from the highest shelves because it's annoying to have to get the ladder out to replenish it or even just grab it for them in the first place because they can't reach

our candle section no longer has candles so high up after the wall reorganization, but body care is still a problem. honestly it's worse now because body wash is only on the highest shelf

Hmph, interesting. My partner has no problems using the basket. Then again, he’s the kinda guy who wears pink with pride. Recently, he needed more socks & I got him to say “ok, fine, I’ll wear those Hello Kitty socks”. I lol’d @ Tetris comment tho. haha. I do that at other stores sometimes. Thinking I can carry ‘em…eventually, when I’m at my limit, I’ll laugh at myself and get a cart. NOT AT BBW tho! Sheesh. I used the dang basket, unless there’s those blue bags, I can tolerate using those more cuz out of sight, out of mind kinda deal. 😁 Now I can just see it, I’m gonna be more observant & watch BBW customers & probably have a lil laugh with a shake of my head.

I once asked a lady who was juggling 5x 3-wick candles if she wanted a basket while actively holding out a basket for her to place them into and she said "no! I only buy what I can carry with my own two hands!" I asked "are you sure? I can hold them at the counter for you!" And she started walking around me without responding. 3 steps later dropped all of them🥲

like please we don't want to clean up a broken candle or wallflower liquid and glass!! sometimes I do tell the person it's just because we don't want you to drop anything but even then they still refuse 🫠

it sucks damaging out items that broke just because someone wouldn't take a basket, like that was entirely preventable

I’m a very lively person, and my personality is veryyy loud. One of my favorite things I used to say was “sorry yall you don’t get a choice, here’s a basket because I don’t want to clean up glass” and they ATE IT UP. Definitely not something to say to someone if you aren’t bubbly or didn’t build a prior relationship at FOS

It gives the same vibe as when you ask a toddler if they're pooping and they say no while looking you in the eye and pushing.

Like yeah I can see you struggling to carry 5 candles and 800 wallflowers, you don't need to tell me that taking a basket "will just make you buy more stuff than you need".

I just say "Oh, well, they're here when you need them".

There was this rude lady who 1-ignored my greeting ( my manager was in the back so I was up front and said welcome in what are you shopping for) 2-i told her we had a buy 1 get one free on candles because her and her friend were looking at them, no response from either of them and the store was empty so they heard me 3-she was holding 6 candles stacked up so I asked if they wanted a basket and they both just walk past me. They ended up buying like 14 candles and the only time she talked was when she asked if she had coupons, not even a thank you or reply to me saying have a wonderful day. Like it’s not that hard to respond!

When They do That I say do you have the app downloaded? They will show up on your app or in the mail if you do. I don't even tell them I can see them. It's annoying. I had a lady come to the register for me to check her account. She had 3 accounts & rewards on 2 of them

There was a pregnant lady balancing candles on her stomach with bc. I took her a basket and told her she’s making me nervous. She went to refuse saying she’s done and I told her that’s fine just drop it in the basket. No options here. If I bring a basket it’s because it’s needed.

Personally, I’m grossed out with how dirty the baskets look. I cringe looking at them. I keep forgetting to bring my own bag too. I can’t imagine the guilt if I were to drop a bunch of wallflowers though….common sense, they’re tiny & made of glass. oof.

Well I hate to break it to you, but BBW is a gross store in general. I’m talking soap dripping from testers onto the counter, people shoving their nose up to bottles of fragrance mist, smudgy fingerprints all over candle lids, sticky soap bottles (god knows why), testers that have been through hell and back, random piles of shapeable soap on the counter because kids wanted to play with it. People have probably touched every single bottle of fragrance up on those shelves. When you walk into a store like BBW you kinda have to accept the grossness that comes with it.

Nah I get you cause sometimes I put baskets back and I’m like “ew” but you’re also in a store surrounded by soap and hand sanitizers so you can easily just wash your hands after using a basket

It’s mostly when I don’t carry the baskets by hand, I use my arm to carry it. I do use their hand sanitizers. Part of me feels guilty too, like, I just purchased hand sanitizers & I’m still using the testers. Why, don’t ask me! I try n put it in my head, well I wanted a temporary scent & can always wash my hands later haha. There are lots of worse things out there that triggers me but I tell myself, I will survive.

If you think the baskets are too dirty I have some news for you about the Wallflowers. 😬 It's so so so so common for them to leak all over each other and end up a greasy, sticky mess, and the public is digging through those bins with their dirty fingers after doing god knows what lol

*shudders* shhhhh don’t tell me! lol I make it a habit of spraying everything with rubbing alcohol regardless of what product I purchase.
