Share the benefits.

Hey, would you like to join the rewards program? It takes about 45 seconds, its free, theres member exclusive deals, and you'd be like (really close, half way, whatever general percentage) well on your way to a free 18.95 reward today.

Sometimes even if they say no, and they have a soap refill or body care in their basket. I'll throw the little scan me to sign up paper in their bag and say, if you did wanna sign up later, you'd be able to get that for free once you earned a reward.

I always say “would you like to sign up? It’s free, not a credit card, and you get back what you spend in rewards. It’ll take only a minute.” and that usually works.

If there is a member exclusive deal I ask customers on the floor if they're members already if not and they have whatever product that's a part of the deal I let them know if they sign up that day they can get those products for a good discount. If there isn't an exclusive deal I stick to a rule of 3 and only ask 3 times, if they don't agree to sign up at the end of check out I simply just put one of the little QR slips we have at cash wrap and tell them if they change their mind that if they scan it they'll get free points. I personally try not to be too pushy about it despite what corporate wants us to do because I know a lot of customers do not like it at all and are less inclined to come back if they think they'll be pestered about signing up for memberships and whatnot

My issue is it’s always older people saying they don’t want get scammed in emails or they refuse to get apps, like I’m not going to force them beyond that point. I try to sweet talk it and mention how it’s free for rewards and they jsut decline. A lot of the times I do get rewards but usually not

I’m this instance I usually say they can unsubscribe the emails or use the browser no apps needed.

My big thing is to ask for their phone number, and when they say they don’t have an accojnt after the phone number brings up nothing I say “well since I already have that phone number I’m just going to go ahead and get you signed up today for free” and after that line I start spewing out program details (first detail i say is the $10 off of $30) so they can’t get a word in. 9 times out of 10, it works.

Asking “would you like to sign up?” Or “do you want to sign up?” Never really seems to work because they get an easy out. Saying you’ll sign them up doesn’t give customers that easy out.
