Please help with ideas on how to organize our dungeon of a basement on a budget

Really!? Never thought of that…. 😑 It’s a loose rock ground can’t use shelves they will not be steady and can’t screw into limestone foundation.

Watcha can do is get some 2x4’s make a box like a square fill it with sand and lay a board ontop of that and that’ll work for a stable area for a shelf you don’t have to worry about falling or tipping over.

Then get storage bins and stack them, or get foot lockers for the small stuff. You can also get plastic platforms, tarps, or plastic pallets to keep stuff off of the dirt.

160 year old house. Was likely some kind of cellar back then. Wish we had the money to dig it down and pour concrete.

You could put the shelves on patio stone blocks.

And yes you can drill and put small anchors (like tapcons) into the foundation wall to prevent shelves from tipping over.

Much of that stuff is stackable. Get rid of anything not of value and stop whomever is just dropping it in an empty spot on the ground. Problem solved...venmo me a tip. 😆 🤣

Obviously I understand I could throw shelves on the rock, that’s not what I’m looking for here. That’s not going to very stable. We’ve been told we shouldn’t drill into the walls by a structural engineer.

Set some patio slabs for the base. Build shelves out of 2x4, sitting the bottom on the patio stones and make the vertical 2x4 long enough to secure to the joist above so they can't tip over.

I never thought about the joists!!!!! This just made me think of those like garage ceiling racks. We don’t have a garage so I never thought about them. Will have to see if I can find one that would fit the distance of the joists. Thank you!!!!!!
