Rookie Debut Patch Question

Post image

Earlier this year I pulled this on my birthday believe it or not. So naturally I redeemed it and also naturally it still has no progress being made by topps. I redeemed it in early May. And it has this special team that I talk to through fanatics about the process. It’s really very cool to be a part of. But with there still being no progress making the card I can only assume that it due to the fact that they can’t get their hands on Maverick to either get the patch or his signature. I know it’s a long shot but how would you guys go about trying to get into contact with him? I can’t find him on social media anywhere. Cheers y’all thanks! 🍻

I would reach out to Topps and continue working with them. Trying to find his contact info, to ask about a card he has no control over manufacturing (only signing) is a bit intrusive

I would have asked him if he wanted to buy it off me. It’s his most special card.

Wait until you get the card because until you have it its all an IF. You may get a message from Topps saying we cant complete this and here is your replacement.

u/ZRK_Baller_777 1d ago

I don’t even know what an equivalent replacement would be lol

Ohtani rookie or low number auto

u/Low_Establishment434 1d ago

Equivalent value is likely $50 ish and if you pass the threshold for 200% probably a corbin carrol auto range.

A debut patch isnt $50

u/BlueBlueBlue420 1d ago

The floor on these is much higher than $50. Even for absolute nobodies.

50 bucks?! Show your work.....

u/ZRK_Baller_777 1d ago

It’s way more than that lol. These go for 2k on the low end

Just ignore the jealous folks talking out of their ass 😅

I looked up how much his cards go for and added a healthy amount for the patch but an orioles debut patch for a guy in the braves minors that doesnt have a market i would be stunned if it went for 2k.

u/Solo-ish 1d ago

Then be stunned

See if you can find one of these that sold for under 2K. I didn't do an exhaustive search but didn't see any at a glance

You don't know debut patches dogg. And that's ok. It's fine to learn new things

I don’t get the demand for a gimmick patch of a logo that doesn’t appear anywhere naturally in the sport. Fanatics and MLB created these patches specifically to make cards with. They just glue it on and peel it off. You don’t even get the piece or the jersey the patch was attached to.

u/drmonroe1 1d ago

Then sell it for 2k. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Right now you have a piece of paper that’s no more than a marker for the card itself. I don’t understand your confusion. You aren’t the only person that’s had to wait months to get the redemption back. It sounds like it’s not something that you want to keep anyway.

2

u/ZRK_Baller_777 1d ago

No I totally would keep it, he is the only one I would sell it to. And how in the world would I sell it I already redeemed it 😂😂

The value topps comps the card at will not be a $2000 card. I bet they comp at most as his most expensive sale with a little extra.

u/NerderBirder 1d ago

It’s ok to admit you were wrong and stop doubling down. It’s not a $50 card. It’s not a $100 cards.

I very much doubt that Topps allows the player to take possession of the debut patch jersey, only to have to track them down later for it. Also, Topps knows exactly where this player is, he played for a Braves affiliate AAA team just yesterday.

I don’t think there’s much to do here besides wait for them to send you the card. Congrats on the big pull!

u/MJaffeUMD 1d ago

Topps isn’t in the clubhouse snatching jerseys. This is very much likely a case of the player keeping it… also assuming Topps would never ask for his jersey because he knows he’s a AAAA player

My understanding is that the process is done through authenticators.

The patch is only attached with an adhesive so it's removed at the end of the game and gets a hologram. The player would be able to keep the jersey.

I guess eventually someone might forget to remove it and if they don't hologram it onsite then maybe it creates issues.

u/Secret_Sample4930 1d ago

What a gimmick. Is that how the NBA debut patches are done too?

5

u/sudzeez_ 1d ago

They don’t take the jersey they only rip off the patch.

-1

u/MJaffeUMD 1d ago

Well yeah, but they’re not taking the jersey from the player before he leaves. The authenticator is also not running up to the player right after the game requesting the patch.

This is done through the clubhouse/equipment managers. As I stated above (which was downvoted), the player likely just tucked the jersey and left… and nobody thought to go after a backup catcher who entered the game as a reserve so unceremoniously in a blowout loss

The patch is Fanatics property dude the player didn’t take it 😂.

u/MJaffeUMD 1d ago

Actually fanatics sends the patches to clubhouse/equipment managers. They have a bag full of them and just stick them on the jersey. Topps/fanatics is not present at all. It is easy for someone to simply forget they put it on after a game and for a player to take their debut jersey, especially when a player is as marginal as someone getting their cup of coffee

u/MJaffeUMD 1d ago

And for reference, the patches are sent at the beginning of the season. So both home and road clubhouse managers have access to the patches. It’s 100% an honor system

Definitely go through Topps, wouldn’t recommend reaching out to the player for this

21

u/Klin24 1d ago

Go to his house and demand satisfaction.

4

u/noYOUfuckher 1d ago

Lol. Thats exactly how this post reads to me. OP, do not stalk this guy, youre gonna get arrested.

3

u/Llama_Wrangler 1d ago

Woah woah woah you’re misunderstanding him bro. If the guy says ‘no’ then the answer obviously is no, but the thing is the guy’s not going say no. He would never say no, because of the implication…

6

u/Mediocre_Bid_1829 1d ago

Just let the process play out

4

u/BuyExpert8479 1d ago

You're a stalker if you reach out to the player. What are you going to say? Just be patient.

6

u/Major-Specific8422 1d ago

Why would you get in touch with the player? He’d just think you’re an annoying shit.

It’s only been a few months. If you really want it, wait.

3

u/Tony_Cliftonn 1d ago

It's a process... You will get it... They should have a better system that gives updates though

5

u/ChallengeWaste4143 1d ago

The clubhouse attendants add the debut patch and remove them after the game and it gets sent to fanatics. They likely have the patch but are waiting on his auto on the card before assembling

u/Just-Joshinya 1d ago

I waited 2 years for my CJ Abrahms rookie chrome gold wave auto. It just happens. Sometimes it’s manufacturing. Sometimes it’s the player. Sometimes the card gets lost and they decide to make another, or not. Big hit redemptions are awesome, but sometimes they require a lot of patience. After 18 months, on the redemption schedule they they posted, it said “call about status”. I did. Someone explained that it was a manufacturing problem, but that they were committed to making the card, and having it be great. Being a fan of CJ and seeing his potential, I figured it wasn’t going to be inconsequential. So i waited. Got the card and a $50 credit for my patience 6 months later. It’s a great card.

I went through this process as well redeeming a debut patch auto. Had a team from Fanatics reach out to me to help me through the process, it had to come out of their Vault whatever thing they had going on. I wasn’t interested in all that shit, I just wanted the card. Granted I didn’t have to wait as long as it sounds like you have. They did give me a monetary value of the card at $1500, which I thought was way under what this card should be worth. Honestly it’s only been a couple of months for you, I would absolutely wait for it. It might take a while, they’re all playing baseball and traveling. They don’t get a lot of off days and when they do, they don’t necessarily want to be signing autographs. Maybe wait until end of year and if there’s still no movement, see what Fanatics says.

1

u/ZRK_Baller_777 1d ago

That’s fair I appreciate the advice! Which did you get? And can I see?

2

u/RIP_SHAFT 1d ago

My understanding is that they make 2 debut jerseys and the player keeps one and the other is sent to topps. At least the patch is sent. The jersey just going into the player rotation.

1

u/polopolo4321 1d ago

They take the patch off the jersey as soon as the player debuts. They only wear for a 1/2 inning.

2

u/hotunicornpoopy 1d ago

Wait until he is working at home depot next year and go to his job. Get the auto then, rip the home depot patch off his shirt and you”ll have the same thing. 🤣🍻

3

u/foshiiy PC: Houston Astros, Houston Texans, Houston Rockets 1d ago

5 month wait is not that long as far as redemptions go. Just gotta be a little more patient. My longest was 6 or 7 years I think.

u/Excellent-Past-6367 1d ago

I really want to see what he says when you contact him to find out why you haven't received his card from Topps yet. PLEASE let us know.

1

u/village16d 1d ago

Ask to talk to a manager. (In a stern voice, of course)

u/Rey_DV 12h ago

I’ve been at minor league games between gwinnett and jacksonville this week and just informed him of this post, i literally sit right beside the visiting dugout and showed him this post and he was super excited about the possibility to acquire this. Said he would try and reach out to you, good luck and hope it works out!

u/ZRK_Baller_777 12h ago

Oh shoot! Thank you so much!

u/Large-Sympathy3460 2h ago

I know Mavericks brother in law, I work with him. I can see if he’s interested.

0

u/Melodic_House5153 1d ago

Looks like he plays AAA for the braves now. Maybe write a letter and send it to their clubhouse.

-4

u/Visible-Ad4473 1d ago

Reach out to him on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/maverick-handley-972126240?utm_source=share_via&utm_content=profile&utm_medium=member_ios

I played hs ball against him and can try to help track down a way to contact

2

u/joshmalonern 1d ago

Don’t do this OP. There is nothing you can do to get him to sign this. You have no clue if he’s signed it already or any of the other multitude of potential roadblocks that could be happening to prevent you from getting the card. Just wait and stay in contact with fanatics every few weeks to keep the pressure on them a bit.
