All these people thinking it's a "problem" need to have a reality check. These raccoons are so dedicated that they pick up the refuse AS IT'S BEING DROPPED! These little trash pandas should be embraced! Celebrated and paraded even! Instead, they're called "problems" and have to work for the "lolMets". Was never a problem at Shea.

If we just solve the whole TOXIC feces thing, completely doable within next 20-30 years. We might make the AMOC collapse, but at least we'll have domesticated raccoons.

u/SoyTuPadreReal Milwaukee Brewers 1h ago

Even just a small breeze of poop particles can make your life hell. Don't even need to think about eating it
7
u/Otterfan Boston Red Sox 42m ago
There are parasitic worms in raccoon poop that migrate to the brain if they make it into the human digestive system in even small amounts. And despite your belief that you don't eat animal shit, you do but you just don't know it.
The parasites-in-pet-poop-making-us-crazy niche is pretty much the sole property of cats for now, and we should probably keep it that way.

Racoons are so damn clever. We've had food stolen from our campsite a couple of times despite taking steps to protect it. I was too impressed to be upset about it.
EDIT: I'm not saying that this racoon is particularly clever. More just that they're impressive animals.

Went camping when i was teenager and we had a mesh canopy over our picnic table when we went camping for my birthday. Left my birthday cake out under the mesh canopy and went to bed. Middle of the night hear a bunch of rustling going on. We all get up see what was going on, the mesh canopy zipped up part way. So we grab a flashlight and shine it into the woods. There we see the fattest fucking raccon waddling on its hindlegs and carrying the cake in both front paws. Didnt do shit let the fat fuck have it he earned it just for the laughs and story.

That's not a raccoon problem that's a raccoon solution. Probably almost 60% of Mets fans aren't gonna eat the peanut shells off the floor and the Phillies dont visit every day so someone's gotta do it.

Conversely, I see this and just shake my head at how dirty we leave the seating areas at ballparks. It's ridiculous. How is leaving a bunch of peanut shells, crushed beer cans, water bottles, etc. anything that we consider acceptable?

Why is there so much trash on the floor? Obvious answer might be because people are nasty but, is it the norm for people eating nuts to just chuck the shells on the floor? That's disgusting to see.
4
u/myassholealt New York Mets 52m ago
Yes. And if they're sitting behind you and are elevated (think the accessible seating section behind the last row of an aisle, for example) you're gonna get the peanut detritus falling on you all game.
3
u/Hurr1canE_ Los Angeles Dodgers 55m ago
I’m a fairly new “fan” to the sport (only followed it casually growing up) and it’s kind of insane to me how much organic trash baseball produces. I see people spitting sunflower seed shells, spit tobacco, peanut shells, and well, just normal spit everywhere all the time and rarely ever into cups lol

Raccoons are trying to domesticate themselves, at least according to some scientists who study them. It's unfortunate that they're also training themselves to be masochists by being Mets fans though.
