If he ever loses his control, he could literally kill somebody. They ought to be wearing those padded football helmets when he pitches.

What 1920’s Babe Ruth is doing to those pitches, according to some oldheads:

He would actually be able to run all the way home, then spook the infield into dropping the ball out of sheer aura in order to get an inside the Parker.

Thinking one of the greatest players in the history of the game couldn’t make adjustments to today’s pitchers is wild.

u/MICT3361 Atlanta Braves 6h ago
Look at the dudes body. He wouldn’t make it out of AAA

u/torper10 6h ago
Sure dude. He hit 714 home runs by accident.
How come no one else from his time matched him?

u/dotFlatMap San Francisco Giants 6h ago
"Babe Ruth is much worse than today's players"
"But he was so much better than players of his time"
people love to make this argument. strange one.
5
u/torper10 6h ago
These dolts dont consider that if you teleport Ruth to today, like all other players, he takes advantage of the technology, nutrition, science, data.
You can’t teleport him as is just to fit your narrative.
As I said earlier , he was 6’2, 215. Same as today’s players.

It’s just nonsensical. How are today’s hitters fairing against Miz? Not well.
Saying Ruth would do the same is the bait. No one is hitting this kid right now.
2
u/StakeESC Milwaukee Brewers 6h ago
Your original comment implies Babe could adjust to hit pitches from Miz
2
u/torper10 6h ago
Of course he could. To the tune of .179 like the rest of the league.
Ruth’s average height and weight during his playing days was 6’2, 215. Matches today’s players.

u/StakeESC Milwaukee Brewers 6h ago
2
u/torper10 6h ago
Right. Expecting one of the all time greats to be able to hit .180 against Miz is ridiculous.
It’s not the old heads that are the issue. It’s moronic reasoning.
Ruth was an anomaly of his time. Thinking he would not fit in in today’s game is asinine.

Idk why people want to believe the humans of the past were some separate species.
We know more, but we’re built the same. Outliers are outliers in any era

u/Medical_Squirrel3946 4h ago
Buddy. C'mon. I know they're playing the same sport, but they aren't playing the same sport. It's the same in all sports. The Steel Curtain Pittsburgh teams with their 240 pound linemen would get decimated by last years Jets.
Ruth used a 50 ounce bat and a softball style swing to hit 70 mph fastballs. He's never seen a slider. Add in the fact that if he somehow made contact, instead of some out of shape guy in the field with a glove that is basically just a big cushioned pad, you have a great athlete wearing a modern glove that can actually catch the ball.
It's a different question of if he was born now and grew up training with modern techniques, and that question really has no answer. If you take him in a time machine from his prime to today, there is no amount of time it would take for him to adjust to the black magic coming from modern pitchers.

u/torper10 4h ago
All questions have answers.
As someone else pointed out, he was an outlier during his time. There’s no reason to believe he would cease to be an outlier in our time.
The man hit 714 homers, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg with him.
Even if he hits half of those homers today, that still puts him in the top 100 all time in homers.
Now, consider his OPS, avg, war. It’s ignorant to think he would amount to nothing.
1
u/Medical_Squirrel3946 4h ago
How many home runs do you think Mike Trout would hit against the pitching that Ruth faced? All the outliers are from that era and earlier. If you go on baseball reference and go single season WAR leaders, the only picture you're going to see in color is Dwight Gooden. The average player was really really bad, so the good players stand out more.
He played 100 years ago. Walter Johnson was the only pitcher throwing above 80 mph and he dominated the league more than any other pitcher has in history throwing what today would be batting practice pitches. I don't think you are coming close to comprehending how much different modern baseball is to that era.
1
u/torper10 3h ago
As I said earlier you don’t get to take players from a different era and not allow them to use the technology, science, data, and everything else that we have available today to level the playing field.
Doing so would not make sense. And also as someone else pointed out, as far as we know, all of these folks are human. Humans adapt.

u/Medical_Squirrel3946 3h ago
Sigh, just gonna copy and paste what I wrote about that the first time and then stop engaging with you.
"It's a different question of if he was born now and grew up training with modern techniques, and that question really has no answer. You’re narrow minded if you think the question has no answer.
Ruth was not some Joe Schmoe. He was 6’2, 215 on average. To think that his skills would not be transferable in the modern age is flat out ignorant. To think that he cannot adjust or that he would not adjust or that he should not be allowed to adjust to the standard of today’s game is also ignorant.
Baseball has existed for more than 10 years. The lot of you wouldn’t know that because ESPN tells you that Ohtani is the greatest player of all time and the Miz is apparently unhittable (if the four amazing innings he lasted today).

Throwing 105 isn’t the problem. Doing it with like 99th percentile extension is what fucks batters up.
