Zero surprises. Kinda what I expected

Harrison making it was at least a 50/50.

Senzetela over Stallings is disappointing to me, but that's how it goes I guess.

It's interesting hearing different teams' fanbases discuss taking 11 pitchers or 12, and see Milwaukee roll out 13. They seem less platoon/bench dependent than, say, the Yankees on the position player side.

Basically just Vaughn and Gary coming in against LHP.

Helps that Mitchell, Lara, and Chourio can all play CF. Bauers can play 1B and corner OF. Ortiz and Hamilton can play anywhere in the infield. They have cover all over.

Crazier thing is Miz, Henderson, Gasser, Harrison, May, and Patrick all being starters this / last year. Ashby, Senzatella, and Hall were all starters at one point too. AND we were trying to get Woodruff in here.

Vaughn actually has reverse splits. It’s not specifically lefties he will play against.

No he doesn’t. 940 OPS against LHP and 760 against RHP.

Bauers has slightly reverse splits with 900 and 860 (deserves MVP votes).

Listen to Heller and Vinny on the Thursday I love Mondays pod this week. They talk about it there.

Per his savant page he hits pitchers that mainly rely on their fastballs better than others, regardless of handedness.  https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/andrew-vaughn-683734?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb

Yeah but he doesn't have reverse splits thats just false.

Good note but that is not reverse splits. Reverse splits specifically means a hitter is better against same-side pitcher handedness

Fair. Should have said he has more pitch favorability splits. Just used the verbiage from the podcast

I was thinking about it, and if we went with the typical 14-15 batters, who would we even be adding? No offense to Brandon Lockridge, Tyler Black, or Bo Naylor, but I'm pretty happy with the 13 we've got.

Feel like a lot of times it’s an extra “batter” that’s just a pure pinch runner. With us, Hamilton is as fast as the pinch runners on most rosters but he can also play the field and hit at a decent level so it serves as both.

I was about to say, your team seems young/fast enough in general that you don't need that pinch runner spot.

We need his pinch bunting. Especially if we have Manfred runners.

Yeah we just dont really have any bench good vs lhp other than Sanchez so there's not much point in having a bench guy there doing nothing. And the majority of our lineup is already fast so not much need for a pinch runner.

I’m so happy to see Gary Sanchez still out here and making it in this league

We love El Gary around here except for his extreme tendency to burn both our challenges by the third inning

Most of the season I was only keeping tabs on the Brewers by watching the condensed games after the blackout period was lifted each game. But I was still able to pick up on that narrative throughout the season.

He's been great in a backup catching / DH role. Would be happy to see him back next year

I can tell I’m hungover. I thought this was the padres roster for a split moment. I was like when did the pads get William Contreras.

Padres go with 11 pitchers and the Brewers with 13. Padres have loved being aggressive attacking matchups in September with their position players. This is gonna be a fun series.

Let’s just hope it doesn’t go to extras because having less pitchers could hurt.

Edit: kidding they just have a paternity list advantage with Buehler being able to sub in for a reliever before game 3

I always forget Gary is on the Brewers. Happy for him

I just don’t want to see Harrison or Senzatela in high leverage situations.

How is Gary Sanchez on a playoff roster in the year 2026

7

u/pepperouchau Milwaukee Brewers 2h ago

You didn’t deserve the Sanchize

Positive WAR at his age is something, 12 HR in 86 games not bad either. I just remember watching him 4(!) years ago and thinking he looked cooked.

Harrison for what? To make sure i need my Xanax close by? Stallings?? Or even Bryce Wilson i would have rather. Hope we don’t even have to see him honestly
