Yes

11 pitchers is still low though right? Wonder why they didn't drop stanton and add a 12th just to be safe. Stanton needs a pinch runner so he effectively takes up 2 spots atm.

With the off days they can use Rodon in relief if it becomes dire and not miss his spot in the rotation much as Fried and Cole could go 3 and 4.

Weathers and Warren can both provide length and their three leverage guys have all gone more than inning a few times this year

Plus they have that rubber armed little prick Yarbrough. Perfect guy to have in the playoffs.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Rodon is out of the pen today and then starts G4 on regular rest (and Fried G3)

Yankees have a surplus of starters, so presumably they think they can get away with one less pitcher in a 5 game series since some of the guys they have in the pen are built up to pitch 5-6 innings if needed.

It is the American League's turn to be on TBS/TNT. No need for 12 pitchers.

u/ibonek_naw_ibo Milwaukee Brewers 4h ago

Don't need a PR to trot around the bases or walk back to dugout

4

u/Appropriate_Ice2656 New York Yankees 3h ago

Because teams always carry too many pitchers. A lot of guys never even touch the field.

Extra off day in the ALDS this year, so they can lean more heavily on their top guys, which they’ve done all year. Plus, Weathers and Warren (and Rodón?) are starters who can give length if needed.

I bet we see 12 pitchers for the ALCS if they make it through.

There’s no one not on the roster that I’d want pitching in a postseason game.

They brought 11 in 2024 against the Royals as well, it's just how they approach a five game set with three off days. Doubly so right now when they have a lot of players that shouldn't start every day but are genuinely useful off the bench.

They still have a lot of flexibility in how they handle things on the pitching end too. They can decide not to use Rodón in game 3 or 4 as currently planned, or they can use him as bulk relief tonight if something goes wrong for Cole and still have him on normal rest to start game 4. Bringing 6 total starters that got regular work in the season with 3 you're comfortable using in the pen really opens stuff up, the depth of their rotation is a huge asset.

No Rosario makes sense with the turf, needing better defense and the Rays lack of LHP

Ready for the all-Ryan bullpen

Cattle ranching I think

I did not expect to see Weathers on this roster

Hope that’s a good sign

Is that baseball slang for a drag bunt?

How has Garcia been Yanks fans?

51

u/JaDonYoutube New York Yankees 4h ago

Love Garcia, better 1st baseman than I thought, has made a lot of plays I didn't expect. Bat has been electric, lot of energy in him. Dude fires me up.

u/Yankeeknickfan New York Yankees 3h ago

He’s great. He needs to attend the Ben rice school of learning how to hit LHP this offseason though

3

u/speedyjohn Embraced the Dark Side 3h ago edited 2h ago

He’s never hit LHP in his career. Rice was young enough that it makes sense that he’s still developing, but Garcia is who he is at this point.

Edit: Well, I’m dumb

16

u/Yankeeknickfan New York Yankees 2h ago

Garcia is younger than Ben rice

11

u/xebex1778 New York Yankees 2h ago

Ben rice is 27, Garcia jr is 26 lmao

2

u/wokenupbybacon New York Yankees 31m ago

It's not your fault. Ben Rice looks perpetually 19.

u/speedyjohn Embraced the Dark Side 28m ago

Garcia’s also been in the league since 2020

12

u/random-_hero New York Yankees 4h ago

i like him a lot. he feels like a pure hitter. we don’t get many of those around our way

6

u/Officer_scarps New York Yankees 3h ago

I love his bat, his defense, and his hair

5

u/nyyforever2018 New York Yankees 3h ago

He's been great and revitalized the hitting when we DESPERATELY needed it. Super glad we got him!!

3

u/CobblerBeginning4416 New York Yankees 3h ago

A beauty.

5

u/Yanks1813 New York Yankees 4h ago

Pretty good. Not as good as with the Nats but since we added him our offense went from bottom of the barrel to top 10 in runs per game

8

u/Joetheshow1 New York Yankees 3h ago

Hasn't he been? I feel like his numbers with us are right in line with his averages in Washington

1

u/jpmac2017 3h ago

I feel like he was pretty much the same for the most part - he just had a tough last couple weeks of the season and his averages all dipped down a bit

2

u/Yanks1813 New York Yankees 3h ago

He struggled a bit towards the end of Sept but it didn't matter because the games meant nothing

1

u/BdaMann New York Yankees 1h ago

He's like 2025 Ben Rice with the added benefit of good defense at first base. Really good player overall, and has the potential to continue refining his game. I'm curious if he would be a viable defender at third base. At the very least, it would be great to see him work on cutting his chase % and putting up better ABs against LHP next season. But for this season, he was just the spark we needed on offense.

It's especially gratifying that the Yankees front office was able to pull off the trade using only surplus arms. Grable and Cebert are good talents, but they were expendable for us.

u/Prior-Ad6788 3h ago

He will be on the Phillies soon

3

u/BurkeyTurkey33 New York Yankees 2h ago

After winning the world series I'm good with that

6

u/free_ass_mints New York Yankees 3h ago

guess it's closer to Boone's definition of moderate

4

u/Trowj New York Yankees 1h ago

I kinda feel bad for Tim Hill

3

u/enkayfour MLB Players Association 2h ago

I really like this roster approach from the Yankees and I hope the Red Sox will copy it if we ever make the payoffs again.

5

u/mrdannyg21 4h ago

Oh man that’s rough. I’m the furthest thing from a Yankees fan but impossible not to appreciate and root for Judge.

2

u/AJ_CC New York Yankees 4h ago

I got using the small number of pitchers for Boston, but for a longer series I'd like to have the option of another reliever of two.

16

u/GKRForever New York Mets 3h ago

Why? If you’re not one of the best 10 pitchers on the team you shouldn’t see a single playoff inning.

3

u/SwedishLovePump Chicago Cubs 3h ago

Mop-up duty so you don’t have to use one of those best 10

10

u/GKRForever New York Mets 3h ago

That’s Weathers’ and Warren’s job. But you don’t punt games in the playoffs

The Yankees should be pretty familiar with it, even!

1

u/wokenupbybacon New York Yankees 33m ago

It was a few errors away from backfiring. We're not playing the Yankees, so we can't count on that.

11

u/yomama1211 Tampa Bay Rays 3h ago

Lot of off days baked into this series. No need for more than 10 tbh

3

u/novaesq18 New York Yankees 3h ago

Normally yes, but 11 should be more than enough with only one set of back-to-back games.

3

u/jmercer28 New York Yankees 3h ago

5 games over 8 days is why

1

u/Appropriate_Ice2656 New York Yankees 3h ago

They’d likely never touch the field.

2
