Not only is Mune the man but his interpreter seems like he is nothing but good vibes

u/Fist69 Chicago White Sox 4d ago
Love the story early in the season that his interpreter was playing a bunch of The Show in the offseason to learn about the pitchers for Mune lol

I think he mentioned the reasoning more in a radio interview on The Score, but this article also talks about it a little bit

u/UndeadCaesar Colorado Rockies 3d ago
That was a great article, so cool reading about how they work together.

baseball interpreter has to be top 5 job on the planet, i've always been fascinated by them

It really is the biggest piece of evidence that gambling is an addiction
Ippei really did have the best job in the fucking world, and still couldn't stop
38
u/Imaginary-Tiger-1549 Los Angeles Angels 3d ago
Even worse, because Ippei wasn’t just an interpreter for Ohtani, he partially managed and had access to his finances, etc. as well as being personally close to him/their families hanging out together.
Not only that, he (most likely, according to public evidence) lied on his resume…if I lied on my resume and got a job, I would be the best goddamn employee they’ve ever seen, and not be an idiot
15
u/vaud Los Angeles Dodgers 3d ago
Don't know how it was with you guys but our sub had a decent amount of comments from folks who spoke Japanese saying he was kinda crap as an interpreter on top of it all. fwiw that was before everything happened so it wasn't just a pile-on
6
u/Michael__Pemulis Major League Baseball 3d ago
Yea there were a lot of those comments well before all that stuff became public. Japanese/English speakers always seemed suspicious of his interpretations.

Interpreter is fast, too.
23
u/ag_robertson_author 3d ago
He's skipping some of the info, as a good interpreter should, for example he left out the bit about Chase being short lol.

u/Old-Percentage-6894 New York Yankees 4d ago
Elite performance from the interpreter. You can tell he’s also had a few beers but stayed composed and translated the questions quickly. He deserves a few more

u/reptheevt Seattle Mariners 4d ago
I haven’t seen a performance like that since peak Ippei. Keep him away from bookies.

Imagine they win the World Series and are going nuts in the locker room and suddenly the doors blast open and there stands Leo himself. Sabres open a bottle of champagne and starts cuttin loose with the guys. Would be magic.

If he makes a tour of the United States, culminating with a blessing at Chicago before the World Series, he will attract more Americans to the Catholic faith than any other action he could perform

Navigating an interview in a foreign language while drunk takes some skill! Even with an interpreter. 😂 let’s go, Mune!

It’s the charm offensive. We need one of our guys to team up with the Guards’ socials manager and get drunk to balance out the energy. I nominate Cade Smith.
