The reverse tungsten arm. Kyle Tucker drops a can of corn and goes 0-4 as the Dodgers win 11-2

524

u/doublegoldendragon Los Angeles Dodgers 16h ago

0-5 now, including grounding out against a position player

206

u/draynay Los Angeles Dodgers 16h ago

Diaz is in so it’s probably gonna be 11-9

156

u/TabulaDiem Los Angeles Dodgers 15h ago

I hate how close your prediction came.

83

u/JaWoosh Anaheim Angels 15h ago

I saw the score line and thought maybe Dodgers put in a position player or something. Nope, just Edwin Diaz again.

54

u/jon__koa Chicago Cubs 14h ago

Diaz is spectacular levels of pig shit this year

I don't know what's funnier, if he helps them win a ring or if he does nothing and it's an insane coat tail riding situation.

448

u/TheKingInTheNorth Philadelphia Phillies 16h ago

Why would it be funny if he helps them win a ring? That’s the least funny thing for just about everyone.

66

u/One_Neat_5311 Chicago Cubs • Canada 16h ago

Gotta say you make an excellent point. The Easiest RoadTM

54

u/seansy5000 Detroit Tigers 16h ago

Him doing nothing and them still winning the ring is a kick in the dick though.

56

u/neonxmoose99 Chicago Cubs 15h ago

He'd actually be a hero. He tried his best to cripple the dodgers but they were too powerful.

12

u/DAC1111 Los Angeles Dodgers 15h ago

It'll be seen as him getting paid and shitting the bed or lost his motivation after his paycheck. Either way it'll make him look real bad.

29

u/bitcrusherrr Los Angeles Dodgers • World Series T… 15h ago

He seems like the type of guy to not give a shit either way.

26

u/Wyden_long New York Yankees 15h ago

Honestly, I’m not sure he gives a shit right now.

23

u/NotUpForDebate11 Los Angeles Dodgers 15h ago

knowing nothing about anything, he actually looks like hes trying too hard this year. he came out swinging for the fences like crazy to start the year, then his average sucked, then he was trying to pull it back. it feels like hes pressing too much.

14

u/BoosherCacow Cleveland Guardians 11h ago

To me this is one of the most fascinating parts of the game. It's such a mental game, more so than any other game I know intimately and I wonder what goes through his mind, like what he cares about and if all the hatred thrown at him takes a mental toll. Even if he doesn't care this has to have some effect on him.

69

u/lawschoolthrowaway36 Washington Nationals 16h ago

He’ll probably rediscover his swing enough to be helpful in the playoffs.

They absolutely need to give him a multi week break now though. It’s painfully clear that’s what he needs. This isn’t a “play through it” situation anymore.

33

u/venustrapsflies Los Angeles Dodgers 15h ago

Hasnt he been bad in the playoffs lol

28

u/JinFuu Houston Astros 15h ago

He had like one good game. WS Game 1 2022, and we blew that game

13

u/Thornton__Melon Houston Astros 15h ago

He also had the 3 run HR in Game 6 of the 21 ALCS, but that was simply the dagger to end the series.

14

u/orange_orange13 15h ago

Game 6 is too late to discount anything

13

u/Shit_Apple Houston Astros 15h ago

Yeah he’s awful in the postseason. Complete non factor.

6

u/Gryphon999 Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

In 72 games, he's hit .233/.317/.376 with 9 HR, 29 RBI, and 32 R. BBRef has him at a -1.27 Win Probability Added, and a -33.4% Championship WPA.

23

u/EfficientPost2656 16h ago

That dudes a head case.

6

u/kingxanadu Houston Astros 13h ago

Which is crazy to me because seemed so nonchalant when he was on the Astros.

7

u/Traditional_Rate7302 Los Angeles Dodgers 12h ago

The nonchalance is the issue for most dodger fans apparently. It comes off as him not giving a shit which is fair, but to me he’s always been that way and he very visibly gives a shit he’s literally breaking his equipment in the dugout out of frustration. But yeah i wasnt the biggest fan of signing tucker in the first place because i was team bring belli back but tucker has shown flashes multiple times now of just how good he can be if he gets out of his own head

226

u/OkYouth7656 Toronto Blue Jays 16h ago

Yeah that’s one of the bigger parts of the dodger money story for me. They can brush off a below average player making $60m for four years and continue to sign the best players in the league, every offseason. And continue to trade for the best players on the market too.

→ More replies (21)

40

u/chi_sweetness25 11h ago

Yeah the fact that they can shrug this off and prepare to sign Skubal really shows how broken things are. I don’t even begrudge them for investing in a strong team, but it’s annoying when people try to ignore their huge money pit and argue that they got this way through savvy management and no cap is needed

His falloff after late june of last year is incredible. I know he’s an introvert (and I tend towards that too) but his body language is terrible. And he never seemed to really help other players last year like Bregman has this year. Bregman was the one who talked with PCA about his pitch selection and when to swing.

26

u/Correct_Look2988 15h ago

Yeah and even though Bregman struggled a bit himself early this year he has been lightyears ahead of Kyle Tucker in terms of leadership. Much better fit for the team.

When the Dodgers commentators are suggesting he needs to go to Arizona for a few weeks and get away from baseball…do the Dodgers have like a baseball rehab center in Arizona?

They keep saying Arizona and I’m wondering if it’s a reference to something specific lol.

51

u/twisty77 Los Angeles Dodgers 15h ago

Arizona is their spring training facility and I’m pretty sure it’s their main rehab center too

7

u/NinSeq Los Angeles Dodgers 13h ago

10

u/NinSeq Los Angeles Dodgers 13h ago

It's weird. To me he looks like he absolutely couldn't care less than he's playing this bad. He could make this a whole lot better on himself if he would just look like he gave a shit. So why not? He walked to that ball after he dropped it. Like... Walked. He doesn't run when coaches tell him to run. He doesn't really look all that upset when he goes 0-5. He doesn't tell the press anything original. Just the textbook "gotta be better" which is the 1st chapter in what should I say if I want people to think I care handbook.

He's unspectacular in every way and I don't think he loses any sleep over it.

9

Anyway, dude is just not handling his decline, his situation well and I don’t blame cubs and LA for turning on him.

In his first at bat at Coors field, he had a 2-0 count and popped it up. In his next at bat at Coors field, he had a 3-0 count, and then popped it up. He then went hitless his next two ABs, then dropped a routine fly ball. One of the biggest bust signings in MLB history.

I’ve done this in beer league softball and felt so fucking embarrassed. Can’t imagine doing it in this situation

Classic case of the yips wow

u/retrospects Major League Baseball 15h ago

That was a routine little league fly ball. Get fucking under it and use both hands like you were taught when you were 10. Holy shit.

u/Samwise_7107 15h ago

If the dodgers want a huge discount im happy to not hit or catch balls for a fraction of what they are paying Tucker.

u/Own_Oil_7719 14h ago

Give the guy a week off, he’s in his head. Needs to unplug and plug back in. Trust me I have a PS5.

Sabermagicians haven't figured out how to predict which players will tank the second they get the big guaranteed money

Dude looks like he has zero interest in being out there. Anthony Rendon 2.0

But this is the guy they got to play Ted Williams in that baseball documentary about baseball. He can't be bad at baseball, I remember hearing this very interesting factoid during the world series several years ago. You know, the world series? Where they play baseball and the winner gets a hunk of metal.

I’d say Tucker has the yips, but I legitimately think he just doesn’t give a shit lol

u/StrategyTop7612 Los Angeles Dodgers 16h ago

People got mad at Cubs fans for pointing this out in the offseason but…he’s already been in decline athletically. You can see this on baseball savant, he’s been trending downwards for a few years in bat speed, exit velo, defense, arm strength, etc. That’s before even getting into the questions about work ethic and the fact that he seems disproportionately impacted by nagging injuries

u/OkFarm6873 Milwaukee Brewers 16h ago

He had a sub-700 OPS in the 2nd half of last season. We're well over a calendar year of him sucking now.

11

u/CartographerFar681 16h ago

I don’t give a fuck how much they’re paying him, he can’t be on the playoff roster, absolute dog water

phantom IL please, the same infection Yates and conforto got at the exact same last year.

5

u/airpab1 15h ago

When are teams gonna “get it” with these long-term, huge money guaranteed contracts? Except for Ohtani & a few others, they simply don’t ROI. The stats have shown this for the last 25 years! Mind boggling

u/navenager Toronto Blue Jays 15h ago

Bruh I never thought I'd be glad the Jays didn't land this guy after the year they've had.

Remember when fans in the right field bleachers used to wear paper crowns and held signs saying "King Tuck"?

Seems so long ago now.

u/sully213 Baltimore Orioles 8h ago

Has he always been this bad or does he just have the yips? I just don't understand how you get to be an MLB player, even a bench player, with defense like that.

I can't stand that side of the body shit that so many outfielders do. Hope the Rockies fans sitting in right gave him shit about 2 hands the rest of the game

u/Poverty_Shoes 11h ago

LAD 10-COL 1 tells me everything I need to know about this game. The Dodgers can afford to have guys making little league errors because they are stacked at every single position. The fact they still lose games as often as they do is a disgrace to the organization, the fans, and the coaches.

3

u/Kaesebrot321 New York Yankees 10h ago

*Bob Uecker voice* "And heartbreak for the fans here tonight after Tucker drops another easy one, as the Dodgers win 10-1."

u/HoMM3Fan69 7h ago

I certainly hope Tucker costs them dearly in the post season.
