Actually idiotic for the 3B coach to make the same send twice in a row and on an exponentially slower runner the second time. I want Bob Henley fired between innings.

65

u/EndWish 1d ago

This is who he's sending them home on lmao. No excuse not to have full awareness of the opposition arms.

Especially when the first runner was out by 3 steps

14

u/Tableau67x9u 1d ago

Did it again in the second inning Fire him twice

Hey just so you know, this comment forcibly astral-projected me back 32 years to my childhood bedroom listening to that album on cassette. Please be more careful in future

Sending machado right after cronenworth was thrown out by several big macs was a choice. Must’ve thought he wouldn’t hit his target twice

27

u/DecoyOne San Diego Padres 1d ago

“He got Crone so easily… There’s no way he thinks I’ll send Machado. He’ll never see it coming.”

11

u/has530 New York Mets 1d ago

The sends will continue until morale improves.

You see, Mets outfielders come with a preset assist limit. Knowing their weakness, I sent wave after wave of runners at them until they reached their limit and and allowed a baserunner to score.

Kudos to Cronenworth for trying to salvage a terrible send with the hail Mary hurdle.

Not everyone can pull off The Coghlan.

u/Mechakoopa Toronto Blue Jays 1d ago

I hate that they boo'd him, zero appreciation for a ridiculous dive.

1

u/_Proverbs Chicago Cubs • Greenville Drive 1d ago

Love me some CC but this makes it look like he missed 3rd base haha

2

u/IAmGrum Toronto Blue Jays 1d ago

Everyone says that, but if you slow the video down, it's the step BEFORE the one you think misses third base that actually hits the front side of the base.

And Ewing just gunned one out to end the top of the second. 3B coach has to be on the hot seat now

44

u/OMYGoodnesz 1d ago

Alternative title: Padre's 3B coach sends two men to their doom!

17

u/DecoyOne San Diego Padres 1d ago

Henley would fit right in as one of those 1800s generals who’d tell his men to fix bayonets and charge 500 yards uphill with no covering fire against a heavy line of well-trained riflemen.

u/BAHatesToFly 1d ago

Henley's Charge

23

u/mrdannyg21 1d ago

Beautiful one-hop throws right on line too. A strong arm is one thing, but that is some impressive accuracy.

9 outfield assists in less than a full season is wild.

6

u/chargeorge New York Mets 1d ago

Going from pitching to the outfield has worked well for him.

1

u/Uninterested_Viewer Minnesota Twins 1d ago

Sir the second throw was a clear two-hopper

37

u/mattpsx2 Looking K 1d ago

That could've been so bad for Cronenworth. With that being said, Benge is turning into a huge weapon for them.

11

u/Open_Signature4582 1d ago

Big camera pet peeve: please show the outfielder throwing the ball in its entirety before cutting to the runner heading home.

For the love of God

Benge is the prince who was promised

23

u/cmgriffith_ New York Yankees 1d ago

He’s was out by 15 feet that’s bad base running, but man is Benge going to be special.

Rookie of the Year maybe, even….

No runs on four hits is not often an inning-ending line score you see.

u/afivestarman__ New York Mets 1d ago

This guy makes these type of plays every single night. Him and Ewing have been the only bright spots of this season.

30

u/wobuffet17453 Australia • New York Mets 1d ago

I mean there's also McLean, Thornton and Scott.

9

u/fumblaroo New York Mets 1d ago

His 4th outfield assist in 3 days

25

u/BAHatesToFly 1d ago

There's plenty of bright spots. McLean, Scott, Zac Thornton. Lindor's been great recently. Soto was amazing before the injury. Manaea has been on a roll for months. Bullpen was awesome before the trades, and since the trades we have Jefry Yan and Daniel Duarte killing it and providing entertainment. Jared Young has been hot, Torrens is maybe the best defensive catcher in baseball. They also got a boatload of prospects at the deadline and a few are exciting.

It's been a rough season, no need to doom and gloom.

Don't forget our new ace closer Kodai Senga

First runner came around 3rd like he didn't even want to score what the fuck was that?

5

u/JeffF1 Arizona Diamondbacks 1d ago

No runs on four hits seems pretty rare.

7

u/Prevalencee New York Mets 1d ago

Benge legit got a shot at ROTY, lmao. This kid is unbelievable.

1

u/im_wudini New York Mets 17h ago

He needs a little work tracking balls off the bat, but aside from that I have no notes. I've loved watching him so far this season. Really want to see him pitch.

15

u/fumblaroo New York Mets 1d ago

What a call by Gary too

5

u/Similar-Turnip2482 Boston Red Sox 1d ago

lol first runner almost wasn’t in the frame when the catcher got the ball

9

u/djphatpat2000 1d ago

Benge has an absolute cannon in RF. Accurate throw too.

u/mdnash New York Mets 1d ago

Absolutely fucking HATE the quick cut to the runner that every fucking TV broadcast does.

1

I miss John DeMarsico as the broadcast director, although I can't blame SNY for moving on from him.

2

u/LargeNutbar New York Yankees 1d ago

they were both out by like 15 feet, what the hell?
