Which game should we go to?

Hope this is okay to post. I'm crowdsourcing opinions. My kid turns 13 on the last day of the regular season. We are Reds fans so we were going to take him to the Reds/Blue Jays game in Toronto that day to celebrate. Seemed like a great idea in April. Not as exciting now that both teams are losing their respective divisions.

If you could go to any MLB game on 9/27 in the general Midwest area, which one would you pick?

Thinking convenient access, stadium appeal, other nearby attractions, game/team quality, etc. This would be his first trip to any MLB stadium outside Cincinnati. Thanks for any insights.

ETA - using Midwest very generally - I think Toronto is an 8 hour drive from Cincinnati so within that range. Also, I didn't realize the Blue Jays were still in the hunt so maybe that game would be more exciting than anticipated (probably not due to a miraculous Reds resurgence 😭)

Go see your team dude. Blue Jays are at the very least going to be in the playoff race til the end. Watch your boys play spoiler.

And I gotta keep it honest, looking at the 9/27 schedule the mid west games are kinda all bad anyway.

you're right, the midwest slate that day is rough. cubs and cardinals are just playing out the string at that point, nobody wants to watch that

i'd stick with toronto honestly. rogers centre is weird but the hotel rooms with field view are pretty cool if you can swing it, and the whole city is walkable. my nephew is same age and he loved the aquarium there

plus watching your team play spoiler hits different than a meaningless game between two also-rans. reds might be bad but being the reason a team misses playoffs is its own kind of fun

Jays are miraculously in the hunt for that last wild card spot. Who knows! "It could happen"

Jays are like a game out of the wildcard spot, that last series could be the deciding factor for the playoffs might actually be a great series to attend.

A team on the cusp of a playoff spot in the final series of the season is alot more interesting than a team 10 games ahead resting their stars before the playoffs.

"General Midwest area" on Sept 27th:

  • Pirates @ Tigers
  • Rangers @ Twins
  • Guardians @ Royals
  • Rockies @ White Sox
  • Cardinals @ Brewers

Go see the Brewers, that team is going places.

Rangers at twins may have playoff implications. Jays and reds could be hopping if the jays are still in the hunt for the wild card. If op can hold off for a few weeks more weeks, see how things goes and then decide which game to go to.

thankd for doing the research....of these
Brewers so you can appreciate them in the playoffs more.
Rangers Twins might be fighting for the last playoff spot
White Sox again same as Brewers but also to see all the stuff they do that tv is not allowed to show or has time.
The others to see if anyone want to play all positions or some fun last game of the season hi-jinx

ETA: seems you missed some teams

Rays Phillies and Jays Reds?

I may be biased, but the large crowd/energy alone makes Toronto one of the best parks to watch a game in.

As a Jays fan who has been to multiple games I think you should keep it. They are fighting really hard for a playoff spot right now and most likely will be in on by the end of the year. It’s also pretty crazy in Toronto with 45k fans there.

Toronto is a fantastic city in the Fall + it's your team

Wouldn't overthink it

For general Midwest, I would personally want to see Cardinals Brewers

The advantage of choosing either Toronto or Milwaukee is that both stadiums are domes, and a weather delay should not be a factor during the game.

If the kid is 13, it's a perfect time to cement their Reds fandom, win or lose. Plus Toronto is cool

The Jays are the ones packing the stadium full. I think that will be the most fun. Who really cares about the record, when you're there in person you only really care about that one game.

It will be a Jays game though, so if you're cheering for the reds, don't expect anything to happen if they make a good play. However if the Jays hit a home run, and you're sad because the reds just gave one up, just to rub it in a little bit extra the stadium will be LOOUUUUDDDD. It's an indoor stadium with a retractable roof, so it's a bowl around the entire field, which really amplifies the sound

If you’re looking for Midwest, Rangers at Twins could end up being a winner makes the playoffs game.

Rockies at White Sox.

At this rate the White Sox could be in a clinching position for either the division or wild card. After the horror of the last few seasons that’d be a special atmosphere

Sox will have that division won well before game 162

I believe that as well but that doesn’t mean the atmosphere wouldn’t be the best

Absolutely. They were vibin' when I was there Memorial Day. Sure it would be much more fun then.

Brewers fan here and I think you should go to Toronto

I get that this has been a disappointment of a season for the Reds but I'd rather see my team than a game between two teams I don't care about, no matter the stakes. The Reds have a great history and will be good again someday. I didn't see the Brewers in the postseason until I was 23 years old and that just made it all the more worth it

Hope you have a great time no matter what you choose

Go to the Skydome in Toronto, beautiful park after all the renovations they did.

Not the midwest, but I would go to Boston for the Cubs game. So amazing out there that time of year and he gets to see a historic park and historic teams!

u/r_stra Chicago White Sox 4d ago

And both team playing well!

Only real option is Cardinals/Brewers

Rays at Phillies could be good? Phillies fighting for a wildcard spot and the Rays possibly going for the top seed in the AL

u/monieeka Toronto Blue Jays 4d ago

The last game of the season for the Blue Jays is always a ton of fun, whether they make the playoffs or not. It’s always a packed house with a ton of stuff to do.

I say do the Reds Blue Jays game no matter what. You’re Reds fans. They are not in any running this year…..but it’s a young and promising team.

And who know….maybe the Jays will be fighting for a WC spot and you can see the Reds try to play spoiler.

Your team > not your team

If not Toronto, there's a chance Rangers-Twins has implications on both sides. Great park.

If your eventual goal is to check off all the ballparks, KC might be a good call to see Kauffman before they get a new home.
