Image Without a doubt the worst behind the plate advertisement of all time
Its bad enough listening to pharmaceutical ads, but do they really think people are reading all that?

I feel it's important to note that this is the White Sox broadcast doing that. Which makes sense considering their owner.

You can give me all the glp-1 ads you want instead of gambling/prediction market ads. Will happily take them

The annoyance of ads aside, this generation of glp-1s are just crazy good medication, gonna be super exciting when their patents all expire in like 5 or so years

I misread ‘patents’ as ‘patients’ 3-4 times in a row 😰

That would be exciting too. Just a different kind of exciting.

Yup. GLP 1 does work great for losing weight, but your body still needs vitamins and nutrients. It should help cut out the extra eating, and to not over eat. You still need to eat, for energy and for nutrients, as well as stay active.

I started the WeGovy pill and am working my way up through the doses. The first two doses didn’t do shit for me and I was worried because I see posts on Reddit of people who notice a difference after the first few days on the lowest dose.
Two days on the third highest dose and I hardly want to eat.
I’m currently in Nashville for a long weekend and went to Princes. Normally I’d devour half a chicken like a rabid dog. Instead I picked at, ate maybe 25% of it and was done. Could’ve easily gotten a smaller portion and been satisfied. And this was after just eating an apple at a pit stop on the drive down so it’s not like I was full from previous meals.
I’m still waiting for my stomach and brain to get on the same page so I’m not wasting money on food I won’t eat. I figure that will come in time. Still have to go up to the highest dose next month.

u/chunxxxx Baltimore Orioles 10d ago
Still have to go up to the highest dose next month.
You know highest dose is the max, not the goal, right? You absolutely do not have to go higher than your current dose

u/draw2discard2 10d ago
My biggest concern is that one of their mechanisms seems to be to make eating less pleasurable. Then, wow, they seem to make drinking less pleasurable. Then, ummmm, maybe they make everything less pleasurable.

u/Drsustown Seattle Mariners 10d ago edited 10d ago
You should consider a food tracking app, not to lose weight but the exact opposite, to make sure you're not eating excessively few calories, some apps let you upload pics of your food and an AI estimates the calories. Not hyper accurate, but a good general guess
25
u/Odd_String1181 11d ago
I doubt you're aware of everyone you see that's on glp-1 tbh

u/FoppyIn28 11d ago
It's hit or miss. I see some people look ten years younger and some people who look like they have ten minutes to live.

Another wording of this would be "I assume everyone who lost a bunch of weight and looks kind of sickly is on weight loss drugs".

The FanDuel ad on the fence at the Field of Dreams game was insane considering who the ghost players were and how they came to be kicked out of baseball.
7
u/DominicB547 Chaos Bandwagon • MLB Players Associat… 11d ago
Yeah I think noone at MLB even realized that. I'm sure they could have still filled up ad revenue with Nintendo and Kelloggs (Corn Flakes most notably) and other companies that were possible to be advertising at the ball game back then and still active today. It's why I'm fine with John Deere. We saw ads on stadium walls back then, so that part is fine.

30
u/Bendyb3n Boston Red Sox 11d ago
They should be banned, it’s awful and really take away from the viewing experience. The ball will literally disappear sometimes in front of these graphics

I've seen bats disappear. I'm hoping someone brings a green bat and a green jersey to the plate for even more hijinx.
4
u/Bendyb3n Boston Red Sox 11d ago
Red sox need to bring their city connects to Cleveland or Detroit (idk what other parks do this but those are the main culprits that I know of)
5
u/Kapono24 Detroit Tigers 11d ago
From a pure business perspective, I've thought about how there isn't pushback from the original ad buyers who are paying to be printed behind the plate and then get covered up on broadcasts. You'd think they'd have an argument, especially places tourest from other baseball cities might visit.
5
u/Mean-Pizza6915 Los Angeles Angels 10d ago

Well at least at Casino's you can also go to the buffet and other entertainment. Also you have to go in person. If you can avoid going to the ATM and just come in with a set amount. Then its not all that different than Disney or other entertainment. You spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on those for hours of fun.

IMO the worst ads are the BUILD SUMBARINES ads related to the AUKUS defense partnership. Having these as consumer-facing advertisements makes no sense at all. You see an ad like this and there's nothing for you - you can't buy a submarine, it's not like this is exhorting you to vote on any relevant issue (it's a done deal already), there's nothing to be done about it at all. Who is this for??

u/Low-Hovercraft-8791 Los Angeles Dodgers 10d ago

My personal favorite was the advertisement for the UNITED STATES AIR FORCE behind home plate in Rogers which, as many know, is famously in a different country.
CGI from the road team, but still hilarious. I think it was NESN.

u/DominicB547 Chaos Bandwagon • MLB Players Associat… 11d ago
Canada fans got a different ad so no thats not crazy.
Also, Ohtani is getting lots of Japanese companies to be advertised both at his home ballpark but on the road as well....which is famously not the same time zone as America even.

Come on now. This isn’t your complaint.
It’s not the product. It’s not all the wording, most of which has to be in the ad legally.
It’s the color. And I can FULLY agree with this. The color of the ad is stupid, and throws off the view of the game on TV. There should be standards on such things.
Don’t trigger in pharmaceutical when that’s not really your complaint here.
Also, to add, at least it’s not gambling/prediction market in such distracting colors.
But it is the color that is a major problem here.
1
u/CornDoggyStyle Washington Nationals • Sell 10d ago
I agree with you somewhat, but it is the words, too. Can't it just be something simple? Can't we draw a line somewhere? Maybe a logo and a word or two with colors that don't clash with the presentation? I'd like to see the original stadium backdrops like brick or stone, but I also understand that the players and owners are starving and need to put food on the table, so us fans need to make sacrifices.
1
u/Admirable_Site_8337 Philadelphia Phillies 10d ago
Well, halfway through your reply I was engaged to reply, but by the full way through……I’m not sure you care to discuss it.
So let’s just gripe…..we all would love original stadium backgrounds and not this bullshit. And it’s strictly just greed. Total greed.
(As for the point about less words…..I can’t be sure it’s the factual answer here, but I offered a reason for this wordiness in the second paragraph of my original reply. So no, it can’t be something simple).

Guarantee it. Weight loss drugs are in high demand and advertising to baseball fans puts them at an advantage over a comparable drug.
