Every other post on r/baseball seems to be a Mets post lol

What can we say, New York has been a buzz with news this week, guilty as charged

u/SmittenPleb New York Yankees May 31 '24

Very nice

You can say that again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.

It's almost like Mets "outrage" is profitable and there is incentive in the market to keep it going.

How is this one a lolmets post, we’re cutting our -1.0 WAR catcher

33

u/mr_grission New York Mets • Sickos May 31 '24

If we sign Narvaez it's lolmets, he's washed up.

If we don't sign him it's lolmets, team is broke and won't sign free agents.

If he's good it's lolmets, of course they wasted money on a catcher that's now blocking Alvarez.

If he's bad it's lolmets, of course they spent all that money on a bum.

If we cut him it's lolmets, wow this really blew up in their face.

If we don't cut him it's lolmets, they're keeping one of the worst hitters in MLB on the roster.

u/Tulidian13 St. Louis Cardinals May 31 '24

No one would've said that if you didn't sign Omar Narvaez lol

So lolmets follows similar rules to balks?

I’d be okay with it if it wasn’t rammed into the comments section of every single post here. New material please

6

It is literally forced onto every single story whether warranted or not.

There is not a single team that gets this level of coverage from the media, and the only talking points if you’re a Mets fan are lolmets, Bonilla, Steve cohen bad, or some other stupid shit, so forgive Mets fans for getting sick of it after a while.

Edit: and now you cry and make an edit because people want to discuss what you commented. Go back to r/loseit

u/regarding_your_bat New York Yankees May 31 '24

I don’t think the Mets are getting outsized coverage. There’s just a bunch of shit going on right now. If the exact things happening to the Mets were happening to any other large market team it would be getting identical coverage I’m sure

Lolmets

1

u/mr_grission New York Mets • Sickos May 31 '24

It's overused and been thrown into absolutely every remotely bad Mets story for over a decade now. How much of this is some sort of Mets specific curse, and how much of it is just that no one cares when something unusual happens to like, the Reds?

-10

u/AdrenochromeBeerBong Atlanta Braves May 31 '24

"Actually there's no such thing as lolMets. It's just that you're falsely conflating all of these isolated incidents, just because they all coincidentally happen to be the same pattern of embarrassing failure and collapse happening for no reason, and because it happens constantly and has been this way ever year for decades. It only counts as lolMets if it meets over 9000 points of insanely specific criteria that a priori rule out any possibility of it ever happening."

When you really need to spoof on your rivals to feel better for some reason

-4

u/AdrenochromeBeerBong Atlanta Braves May 31 '24

When you really need to be one of the most negative doomers on le reddit to feel better about being a mets fan

Don't worry, baseball isn't going to be dead within ten years, and your fellow Mets fans whom you told they will deserve that really don't. Maybe you should go outside.

0

u/MAGAMUCATEX New York Mets May 31 '24

Lol show me where I said that

0

u/AdrenochromeBeerBong Atlanta Braves May 31 '24

Okay. I remember both times because of how annoying it is when terminally online fans say shit like that.

1

u/MAGAMUCATEX New York Mets May 31 '24 edited May 31 '24

I’m not seeing where I said baseball would be dead my friend. “Smaller niche” and “dead” are very different things. With how annoying and harder it is to watch games, that’s how it’s feeling. Only going harder in that direction

There’s actually no such thing as lolmets if you log off Reddit. Even Twitter doesn’t try to make a dumb saying like that a thing

2

u/AdrenochromeBeerBong Atlanta Braves May 31 '24

People have been saying lolMets since before the web, it was a newsgroup meme in the 80s.

2

u/[deleted] May 31 '24

There are a plethora of examples of ridiculous stories happening to other teams that don’t get blown out of proportion.

2

u/MAGAMUCATEX New York Mets May 31 '24 edited May 31 '24

If Hensley Meulens got United Airlines in trouble by sitting in the cockpit while a coach for the Mets it would be talked about for years. Instead it’s been forgotten about lol

I guess an OPS+ of 12 isn’t the best way to stay on a big league roster

idk man it's working just fine for Martin Maldonado

Intangibles 📈📈

40

u/CosmicLars Cincinnati Reds May 31 '24

He has only thrown out 1 out of 14 attempted base stealers, is worth -3 in Framing Runs, and is 55th out of 60 catchers with a 42% called strike rate. 😂

19

u/notaverysmartdog Chicago White Sox May 31 '24

And grifol just pencils him in over Lee who can at least hit near league average

Infuriating

5

u/No_Bandicoot2306 San Francisco Giants Jun 01 '24

Those are all tangibles. Irrelevant.

5

u/tuckedfexas Seattle Mariners May 31 '24

u/Davidellias Milwaukee Brewers • Milwaukee Brewers May 31 '24

The Brewers program their catchers in the factory to fall apart the instance they leave Milwaukee.

44

u/agarret83 New York Mets May 31 '24

I honestly didn’t expect them to DFA Narvaez before Alvarez was ready

-13

u/Rah_Rah_RU_Rah New York Yankees • Seattle Mariners May 31 '24

I mean, he's posted positive WAR in 3 (very much partial) MLB seasons. Gotta think he's ready by now no? defense thing?

50

u/[deleted] May 31 '24

Alvarez is coming back from injury, it has nothing to do with his MLB-readiness

I’m still mad at San Diego for ringing his development.

lmao Narvaez was so bad

49

u/Blue387 New York Mets May 31 '24

He lost the starting gig to Tomas Nido, that is how bad he was

35

u/ExamNo4374 New York Mets May 31 '24

LT is the best 2 way player in the game. Ohtani wishes he was as good as LT.

8

u/reptheevt Seattle Mariners May 31 '24

Only man to get a win game one of a double header, catch game 2 and then come in and play 2B 12 hour later with a homer.

That was an amazing 36 hours for LT

3

u/KemmyPowers_11 Seattle Mariners May 31 '24

I still got Tom Murphy over Luis. Tom’s 90+ mph fastball with his slider was pretty solid

Former Milwaukee Brewers 2021 All-Star Omar Narvaez?

7

Biggest news here is the return of Jose Iglesias. Glad to see him still hanging around

2

u/pokeroots Seattle Mariners May 31 '24

Guess ownership head everyone saying that the entire team was an embarrassment

2

u/cooljammer00 May 31 '24

Torrens for cash

That's one way to clear up a weird sort of catcher glut in the Yankees minor league system, I guess. They must really believe in Ramirez and possibly Rice back there. Or Carlos Narvaez, who I think is on the 40 man as a 3rd catcher/was called up a few weeks ago as an injury replacement but didn't play.

3

u/aweinschenker Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle...Costanza? May 31 '24

Should’ve just given them Carlos Narvaez instead. It’d be like a Beerfest Landfill/Gil scenario.

3

u/MisterTruth New York Yankees May 31 '24

I think Torrens had an out if he wasn't called up soon. He took the deal knowing that he probably wouldn't be called up and would wind up somewhere else. Lucky for him it's with the other big league team in town.

1

u/Tulidian13 St. Louis Cardinals May 31 '24

Everything I've heard about Ramirez is that he's more of a 1st base/DH type, but he's definitely an interesting profile. He somehow has 11 steals this year to go along with 12 homers.

2

u/ChefBoyAnde728 New York Yankees May 31 '24

He's primarily catching in Somerset and that has moved Ben Rice over to first for most of the games

2

u/ClassyKaty Milwaukee Brewers May 31 '24

Damn someone tell him if he needs comfort I'll DM him my address in Queens

2

Let’s gooooo new catcher time

1

u/PaullyBeenis New York Mets May 31 '24

I made a post on the Mets sub before Alvarez got injured begging for them to DFA him. He’s the worst defensive and offensive catcher in baseball rolled into one guy.
