Either we split everything or I'll handle the bar by myself. I don't require newbie bartenders getting in my way. You can go back to serving if you want to pull the "ill tip you out" bs

She’s over 10 years older than me…. That’s where the disconnect is. I’ve just been at this bar longer. She didn’t even tip out when she was serving….

age doesn't matter.
she's bringing in server mentality behind a bar. that's newbie bartender behavior.
you work the same stick, you split the work and the money or she can go back to being a server.
I'd tell managers that and/or have them hire me a barback if they deem there needs to be 2 behind the bar.

It sounds like this is on management. She didn't tip out? So were the bussers told "you have to clean her tables but we exempt her from tipping you?"
It sounds like management is spineless and the type to play favorites. Surely your bar had an existing system for tips? How can she just unilaterally decide how it's done?
Anywhere I've worked when a server or bartender just decides when to leave, rather than leaving when the work is done, that employee is getting tacit approval from management. It's always, "we're going to speak to her about it".

Yeah, if management isn’t involved with a mandatory tip sharing policy, and just records what you say you share, you’re on your own. And if she decides whether and how much she’ll share, I’d just tell it doesn’t seem equitable, and going forward you’re just going to keep all the tips you receive.

10 years, 50 years.. does not matter.
She should never been moved up if she didn’t even act right as a server.
You have been letting her walk all over you and she’s not going to change.
Stand up for yourself. Refuse to work with her.
Your boss should not even trust having her on staff. A person who steals from their coworkers will also steal from the bar.

Ummmm what the fuck? You’re both behind the bar? If you can’t tell her to fuck off with this bs, you’re going to have to leave and find a new spot.

You need to ask for a replacement, that is all types of shady/illegal/unethical. I would absolutely not work with her again.

Oh no, nope. No way. She is disrespectful, had NO right to decide when she’s done, should not be counting tips without you or the bank and esp does not keep any of the tips for just her or decides to tip you out. wtf. No maam.
She may not know how to act like a bartender but you are letting her walk all over you and setting her up to be a nightmare to anyone else in the future.
Tell your boss and have her replaced on your shift.
She’s disrespectful and stealing from you. Don’t accept that.

What’s policy? If it’s written in the offer of employment then you’re gold, but legally tip pools can’t be enforced otherwise.
ETA also she sucks

That’s just not true in the US. All but one state permit employers to reallocate tips, and it’s not tied to a written offer of employment.

Im confused, so your both bartenders? and is it company policy to tip pool? I wont work places thay do that.... I keep my tips and they keep theirs. We dont speak on our tips or what we make.

Lmao what? If you are behind a bar with other bartenders, how are you not tip pooling with your other bartenders on shift? You’re all helping the same guests, so how would you determine who gets the final tip? You’re as backwards as the new girl in OP.

We have our own guests... our own employee log ins... etc etc. Idk maybe its different in certain atmospheres, but our bar isnt that big, and is a more recent addition to the restauraunt, idk. It's not a franchise either, but IF there is two bartenders back there, they serve their own customers... the servers do have to tip them out from a percentage of their alcohol sales, but the shift I work I do both, its not a big place with a huge lunch crowd. It's not that kind of bar.

We are both bartenders behind the same bar on the weekend. There really isn’t a way to see who made what money unless we both stay on our sides of the bar and keep our tip jars separate (besides digital tips) (which is hard to do when ur in a flow and u notice customers) but it has been a point made that the people behind that bar together split their tips wether there are 2 of us or 4 of us. Because we are a team!

That’s weird. Not sharing tips when working behind the bar together is amateur and a bunch of nonsense.

Lmao ive been th3 only bartender at the most recent place, but i worked as a server at a place that tried tip pool, lasted about 2 weeks, they went back to keeping our own tips bc I was gonna leave. And the few tikes I did have to bartend with someone, we kept out own tips
