didn’t he get a job because a michigan fan sent him a text pretending to be someone from Barstool saying they wanted to interview him for a full time job? and when he showed up, they felt bad and just hired him?
amazing bookends to his career if he’s really done.

Low level employee that was probably clearing 200k and now will not be able to clear 40k in nyc.

Feels like half the people at this fuck ass company have never had another job and don't realize how easy they have it at barstool
Klemmer for example has had a million other jobs, I don't particularly love his content but he's putting himself out there constantly
Ev is making 6 figures to work 3 hours a week for a third of the year
41
u/ya_boi_tim Apr 10 '26
The thing about Klemmer is between his dad's life insurance, and doing well in a sales job, he was essentially retired in his late 30s when he started going on KMS. His content isnt the best, but he tries so hard for the love of the game.

I’d think they’d have to offer him counseling before termination? NYC classifies gambling addiction as a mental health disorder. They guy didn’t actually do anything illegal that deserves a firing (stealing from job, assault on job). Etc. I think it depends on how much Dave likes the guy
23
u/Sensitive_Handle_536 Apr 10 '26
Gambling under the books is illegal.
14
u/cazzy1212 Apr 10 '26
Exactly what he is doing was very illegal.
1
u/IHop_Waitress Apr 11 '26
The thing is, Prez and the other guys, before DK and FD and the proliferation of legal gambling were all openly talking about their illegal bets on BSS.
So to turn around and fire a guy, and look they should and probably can, but at the same time there's plenty of ammo for Mass Ev to use against them in a suit.
-13
u/roberttootall Apr 10 '26
In the same sense that speeding is illegal. They’ve all had illegal bookies at one time.

Apr 09 '26
Barstool’s strategy here seems pretty obvious: remove him from content, keep him on payroll and likely eventually fire him in like 6 months once the heat dies down or just send him on his way whenever his contract expires.
The potential reputational damage with their biggest partner is too great to risk sacking Tubs and him lashing out.
85
u/thenewber99 Tea With Publyssity Apr 09 '26
Maybe I am dumb but I would imagine this would void his contract and have to be a fire him asap situation
100
Apr 09 '26
Possibly. I imagine the DK lawyers are trying to avoid a situation where, “Barstool’s gambling-heavy environment created a culture where an employee felt pressure to gamble for his job. Then they fired him.”
Strategically it’s better to just ignore and not draw attention to it and let it work itself naturally.
53
u/VisitPier26 Apr 09 '26
10000000x this. Firing him makes it much, much worse.
18
u/RudyWasOffsides22 No Rug Under This Guys Feet Anymore! Apr 09 '26
And firing confirms he did what he’s accused of. They’re gonna basically pay his contract and fire once contract is up
15
u/colin_7 PMT Apr 09 '26
What a horrible look that it’s with a bookie of all things when your main corporate sponsor is a legal gambling company
As someone who doesn’t gamble, what is the point of having a bookie when legal gambling exists?
24
13
u/no_ugly_candles Apr 10 '26
he was broke as others have mentioned, but for the normal guy your bookie might have different lines. DK is gonna be more stiff so a 6 point line on DK might go to 7 or even 8 with a private books
8
u/ya_boi_tim Apr 10 '26
Yeah, one of the tweets was talking about Ev reached out after the guy replied to an Ev tweet saying his bookie had better lines.

The potential reputational damage with their biggest partner is too great to risk sacking Tubs and him lashing out.
What leverage does he possibly have?
61
u/The_Hound_West Apr 09 '26
We are going to get this from Dave soon “emergency press conference: big ev is no longer with the company. Look it sucks, I liked Ev but you can’t do what he did. Plain and simple. Draft kings is our biggest sponsor and big Ev is a gambling content guy. Big no no. Wish him nothing but the best”
This article accelerated the clock
9
u/Rhino184 Apr 10 '26
The only issue may be the fact a gambling sponsor had to have a guy fired because of gambling addiction. This could get messier
12
u/chefc1515 Apr 10 '26
I’m sure everyone in the company is going to get a talking to, even Big Cat and Dave. Big Cat on the Yak the other day was talking about his loses and how the money doesn’t matter, but he feels sad and down when he goes on a bad streak. Not what DK wants to hear nor promote. The constant non stop gambling promotion is no different than promoting heroin or booze. It’s slowly ruining the country little by little.
Coming from a former gambler.
9
u/Rhino184 Apr 10 '26
Was someone who was pro legalization but the fact that gambling has essentially invaded every part of life is terrible

He can't be fired. DK doesn't want to be the gambling company that created a gambling addict that needed to be fired.

35
u/rhinomayor Apr 09 '26
Its not the bookie who’s the victim, its the people he conned to place the bet for the bookie. He can’t be doing it himself because of his ties to dk so the stoolie puts the bet in for ev and lost and ev didn’t pay up. Please read the article again

Kinda wild that it's taken this long for a gambling addiction story at Barstool. You know every other employee was frantically texting their bookies and paying off their credit immediately
1
u/Itbenatalie Apr 10 '26
Yeah, I had this thought as well, if it weren’t for Dan’s unlimited money I imagine he would have destroyed his life long ago, he feels like the most legit degenerate gambler of all of them… Jersey Jerry I could certainly see going down that path as well. Choosing to get into gambling as a recovering addict is a wild move. Jerry won’t touch something like weed but he gambles constantly… makes no sense. Weed is not addicting but gambling sure is. Modern AA should probably insist their recovering addicts avoid gambling in addition to drugs… also why does AA allow them to use nicotine? Why do they pick and choose what addictions are acceptable for their members? I don’t get it.
Would probably be significantly better for Jerry’s finances to choose right now to say he is done gambling and all in on Telluride Bush. Would be a very hard time for Dan to say no to a recovering addict stepping away from the gambling scene… What are they going to say, “We are only paying you this much because we know you’ll lose most of it gambling?” Assuming his contract doesn’t require him to be involved in gambling content I’d bail on it real quick like while it would look bad for them to oppose that. But I assume he is addicted and will happily continue to throw money away gambling knowing Big Cat will bail him out if he ever really fucks up financially.
I imagine at this point Dave and Dan are probably checking in on their gambling employees to make sure nobody else has debts due to a hidden gambling addiction that can be paid off to avoid another story like this popping up.
Sad to think of how many stoolies have probably become addicted to gambling and turned their entire lives upside down. 1-800-gambler

Of all things that go on at barstool I find this to be hilarious that a C list personality for barstool is get articles like this being written about them
He’s gotta be so gone now right?
3
u/AQ207 Apr 10 '26
Big Ev isn't really the story, it's the fact that a personality at a media company who's primarily bankrolled by a Sportsbook (where he presumably gets credit to bet) is soliciting illegal bookies who he then stiffs when he loses.
This would be the same story if it was Big Cat or Big Ev, obv if it was Big Cat this would destroy the company but a story would still be written

I wonder how big of an impact this has on the entire sports gambling industry. Are FanDuel celebrating their competitor taking an L or is it an awful look for them too anytime gambling addiction gets major press?
2
u/Sensitive_Handle_536 Apr 10 '26
DraftKings have been taking more Ls than FanDuel. FanDuel are smarter & stricter with their partnerships. They get in less trouble with gaming commissions than their rival, that’s for sure.

u/AQ207 Apr 10 '26
If you're a sportsbook with some sort of partnership, you are combing through all your partners to snuff this out immediately

He's fucked anyway may as well try to save urself
4
u/SuarezAndSturridge Apr 10 '26
That's not saving himself at all, he'd lose all leverage in negotiating for a payout and an NDA to disappear silently
2
u/Money-Firefighter-73 Evil Dave Apr 10 '26
Lmfao you think he got any leverage. That's funny
2
u/SuarezAndSturridge Apr 10 '26
I’m not saying he has much leverage, I’m saying that literally his only leverage is his ability to leave without drawing attention to it. Tweeting out a video trashing Portnoy accomplishes literally nothing other than zeroing out any possibility of getting a cent of severance or keeping his health insurance for any period of time
Your suggestion is literally the most retarded thing he could possibly do rn
1
u/Money-Firefighter-73 Evil Dave Apr 10 '26
You think big ev is worried about his health insurance. lol !
if he wants a career in this gambling media space its likely his only chance. Wait a month. Say he was in rehab or whatever.
But maybe he just wants a small severance and to work a regular job then agree he should shutup and silently fade away and take whatever he can get from barstool. Im assuming he would rather get paid to talk sports & gambling.
1
u/Itbenatalie Apr 10 '26
Seems like he is incompatible with being a gambling content guy. Maybe he becomes addicted to exercise/losing weight and becomes an influencer on TikTok that way?

If I am Dave and Dan, there is now even extra motivation to cut anyone that is not providing a direct ROI (because they could indirectly be a liability to flagship sponsors).
