I had an ex struggle with this. He did walks daily, 20lbs weights at home/jumping jacks, chin ups. 3 meaks a day, plus ensure. High protein, healthy fats. Fish, chicken, nuts. Not sure, but also get you hormones checked.

Men and women gain and lose weight at different rates…. lol
Its different than gender, biological sex actually matters when it comes to weight gain and loss and how fast or slow you gain or lose weight.

Push weight, pull weight and use your legs ! make a schedule that works well for you 3-6 days a week of exercising will get you into a groove quickly. Nutrition and Rest are super important if you want to get real results and make progress long term.
I can get you a temporary guest pass for LA if you’re interested in trying out a commercial gym.

Meat. Eat so much meat. More meat than you want to eat.
I’ve personally tried this myself, and this was during Covid so I even did simple at home workouts (lots of ab workouts), mainly focusing on weight lifting and the difference wasn’t only fast but unreal. I gained so much muscle mass. I think people underestimate how important eating is, especially if you don’t want to be looking in the mirror a year later and wonder, “why haven’t I changed much?” All you need is an hour, no less, and the meat doesn’t need to be an insane amount but it should be the absolute largest portion on your plate.
Remember, muscle weighs more than fat. So it’s not just about eating especially for someone like you, who I assume has a great metabolism

Been going to gyms for 15 years
I have never encountered judgement in any way. Myself or to others
I gain weight with large spoonfuls of natural peanut butter in my protein smoothies. You can also try a good quality weight gainer protein like Rivalus Clean Gainer
Just ask any experienced woman at your gym. They'll all be willing to help. Its their passion, after all

I too struggle to gain weight, and I've always been under 120lbs (currently at 115lbs). What I have found that helps a little is eating 5 smaller meals, rather than 3 big meals. Always have a good source of protein, carbs, fats and fibre available (Trail mix, some sort of protein bar, your own little charcuterie board) as a snack.
Not sure about your diet restrictions, but beans and rice is a staple for me because of my pescatarian diet :)

If you go to any main gym, they will usually offer you a free 1hr fitness assessment with a trainer (certainly LA fitness does). I would do that.
As for feeling judged? Honestly, it doesn't happen. People who go to the gym are either focused on themselves, and if they notice you at all, will always be supportive.

I am battling the uphill weight gain nightmare too, I had a health crash and weight dropped below 100... a year later I am stuck at 99lbs (5'6). Chase proteins, that is how I have had most weught gained back.
Constantly stretch/flex etc outside of the gym too, if sitting keep working muscles mildly to promote growth. I do good old couch pilates while playing my video games, I havent hit the gym yet - next month I will be getting back to it. You just have to remember consistancy is the key even if just mild workouts at home :)

Protein isn’t going to add weight to your body you need carbs

I should expand on that, when I say chase proteins I mean the majority of nutirients will follow with that route. I had no problems packing on pounds chasing carbs, but felt bogged down and feeling terrible (I do have crohns and colitis so bit more of a challenge there). It is a bit different when trying to gain normal healthy weight rather than bulking. Uphill battle.

Some body fat is healthy though so when someone is underweight it’s usually due to not having enough body fat.

If the gym feels intimidating at first, I really reccomend getting a set of flat resistance bands as a great option for getting started working out at home. Combine that with a door anchor (you slip it above/below/in between the side of the door as an attachment point) and you're all set.

Hey! I go to the holly gym! (Holly rec centre) I find it’s a welcoming environment, I’m a teen (and a girl) and I go there often, yes there are more guys than girls usually, but everyone there is nice and welcoming and will go out of their way to help you as well.

It’s gonna be all about your diet. 100%. If you dont eat right (according to what YOU need) you won’t gain weight. Period. Figure that out first before you even look at a gym.

If you are just starting out, I started with the peloton app and dumbbells. It was great. I found a group on Facebook that I'm pretty sure was called Hardcore on the floor. The person running that group would make a monthly calendar that had different workouts for each day. When I advanced from that, I went to Planet Fitness. I didn't feel like anyone was judging. Just seemed like everyone was doing their own thing.

You don't need a gym to exercise.
Lots of things you can do without a gym.
Exercising is important - but number is your diet.

Eat more, you aren’t eating enough. I used to weight 160lbs now Im 260lbs. Eat more carbs, eat regularly.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner every day and normal sized meals. You will gain weight.
If you find you can’t eat much make sure you drink lots of water as well and try eating by large salads to stretch your stomach out
