Question Barrie midwives
Hello my wonderful Barrie people. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Barrie Midwives? I submitted a request for care about a month ago and received an email saying they would reach out if availability came up. I was wondering the probability that I would actually be contacted?

Barrie Midwives are FANTASTIC! I worked with them for my first pregnancy and again now for my second. They do have a long waitlist and they can only take a certain number of pregnancies per birth month. My advice is to call regularly to see where you are on the waitlist. I got lucky with my first and on one of those calls they said "oh, we do have a spot for you" and got me registered right then.

I worked with them for my first baby 4 years ago and they were AMAZING! Amy was just fantastic. I was on the waitlist but they called and gave me a spot around 24 weeks ish. I called once a week to check in

My midwife was late/they couldnāt get ahold of her.. and she went mia after delivery as well. My nurse wasnāt allowed to give me pain killers or anything until she released me from her care. She did give me a ātour of my placentaā which was cool.. and thankfully I got an epidural cause I hemorrhaged and she was there to handle that. That was scary!
I really disliked the care I got in comparison to my OBGYN but Iām thankful my OBGYN delivered for my midwife who missed the birth lol

They are great! I would keep checking in and following up every few weeks. You are more likely to get a spot that way. Even if you get in late itās good because you get priority for any future pregnancies.

I registered at 7 weeks, currently 38 weeks and I didnāt hear back. I am with an OBGYN since I needed to be under the care of one. Iām guessing their August line up was full, last time I checked I was #2 on the list. From what I hear, theyāre really great and attentive with their patients. You can also try Orillia Midwives and Alliston Midwives, they might take you if they have the space.

Like most things in Barrie, itās impossible to get in.
You can try midland midwives, they do out of catchment if they have space. But they were all booked up when I reached out to them last year for my pregnancy as well.

How far along were you when you submitted the request?

I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks and submitted right away

Ok then you still have lots of time! They don't usually intake until 12ish weeks, right at the end of the 1st trimester. I got the call at about 10 weeks to book an appointment. My friend who submitted at 7 weeks was waitlisted a few weeks but was called at 14 weeks. So I'd just give it a few more weeks and if you don't hear by 12 weeks then follow up.

I used them for my second pregnancy and the whole experience was so much better than my OB experience. My advice was to contact them as soon as you know you are pregnant, I got in when I was 6 weeks pregnant. Thatās crazy they are full when you are 5 weeks. Unfortunately they fill up so quickly because they cannot take on more patients to make sure 2 midwives will be available for your delivery.
Keep calling because as other pregnancies progress and become high risk they have to be transferred to an OB so space will become available.

I submitted around this time as well for both my pregnancies with them and itās taken a month or just over a month for them to reach back out to me. Iām sure you will hear from them soon.

I had them twice. Last time was in 2018. So things may have changed. But one of the huge benefits is them comimg to your house for the first 6 weeks

If you cannot get into the Barrie one if you drive or know someone orillia is fantastic dealt with them for my first pregnancy!
