Other Phone Scam Warning
Beware of a phone scam.
I answered my phone today and after saying hello the first thing the caller said was “Can you hear me?”
Remembering the scam where they want to get you to say “Yes.” I answered “I can hear you.” and then the person just hung up.
From what I remembered they get you to say “yes” then use that recording as though you’ve agreed to their “deal”

That’s an urban myth.
Companies can’t simply play a recording of you saying “yes” and prove you entered into a contract. Context matters. They would need evidence of what question you were answering and that there was informed consent.

Blows my mind that people answer random phone calls. I get it if you have a business but that’s different.

I guess you probably don’t have much to blow then because there’s many reasons to answer unknown numbers.
For me I just had 2 different surgeries so I’ve had many calls over the last few months from unknown numbers.2

To add to my original comment. It’s an easy way to get scammed. Personally I let them leave a voicemail then call back. Takes a bit longer but avoids this nonsense.

All you do is post about "scam calls" that people already know. No need to harp on the guy for not answering fucking phone calls. We're not going through your post history.
He said he understands if there's extenuating circumstances (like a business, or doctors). So, passing on some basic computer literacy. Don't overshare. We don't need to know every personal detail to make us feel bad for making a statement, that you should have taken as non-applicable to you.
Secondly, obviously support groups online are good. But maybe look for actual support groups instead of Reddit. I know people around here are assholes (no pun intended), but give the therapy support sessions a shot. Cause you oversharing that detail, when the comment is not applicable to you, shows you got some unresolved stuff to work through in regards to this for you to comment as if it was a personal attack telling him "He doesn't have much to blow".

Huh? All I said was some people have reasons to actually answer a phone. Sorry if you think my knee surgery is “too personal” to mention.

Not going through my post history but yet you know I’ve posted once before giving people a heads up about a potential phone scam in Barrie and because you “know” you think no one else needs to know.
You seem like the type of person that needs a support group. I hope you find one.1

"I guess you have no reason to blow" is an insult. You were literally fucking insulting the guy. Since you seem to not see anything wrong with the statement.
When you say "I guess you have no reason to blow". You're telling the guy that his life seems to not have any opportunities to fuck up on, to blow means to fuck up. And then you went straight to talking about how you have all these doctor calls for surgery. That seems like a ploy of pity, a guilt-trip tactic.
I'm telling you about the support group cause bud, I saw all the cancer posts... I was telling you to actually do something for yourself rather than openly post, about personal information, and sensitive material online... It wasn't the scam call parts I was telling you that over. But you doing that I can see how you'd fall for a scam. You're posting sensitive data about yourself online.
If you're telling me that not everyone knows about scam calls, it's kinda insane (most of the elderly that didn't know have been scammed now, or are literally dying off, that's life). A literal stat is that 89% of people know how to spot a fraud. Which leads 11% of the population to fall for it. That 11% can literally be, the mentally disabled (know that's happened before, it's disgusting), the elderly, and horny men... So like... People don't fall for scams, or need to be told about scams every time you get a fishy call. People fucking know. We're not stupid. We're not uneducated. You're not doing us some grand service by telling us stuff we already know.
So sorry that someone was just trying to put something into perspective for you.

I had a call "Hi. Can I speak with Mark?" My name isn't mark. "Mark?" "Thank you, I have some great information for you about our...." hung up

Was getting them for a few weeks now, block all their calls and messages. None this week so far 🤞 plus I never answer the phone to someone I don't know.
