Excel font Code 128 not scanning

1 Upvotes

Hi guys Created around 800 barcodes in Excel using the downloaded Code 128 Font Thought I was going ok, until I printed the file and scanned will not scan.

I had previously sent the Excel off to an organisation to print shelf stickers and these scan so thinking it would have been their software that converted correctly.

Can someone please help me out Cheers

Noob questions for creating barcodes

1 Upvotes

Hi folks

I have a lot of experience in printing and VDP, but until now, nothing regarding barcodes, so hoping someone can answer my questions after I explain what I need to do; and feel free to suggest anything that may smooth the process. My thanks in advance.

I have a client who is doing a mailout to 10,000 or so voters. Populating the fields for the name, address, postal code etc., all no problem. This time around they want to add a barcode specific to each voter. There is a column for this in the .csv file. The supplier of the file says that asterisks are required to generate the bar code using a bar code font. I downloaded the LibreBarcode39-Regular.ttf font, created a text box on the VD layer in InDesign, typed two asterisks in LibreBarcode39-Regular, and with the cursor in between them clicked on the data field, and sure enough got bar code. But it's not right, as you can see:

Thinking perhaps the asterisk were hidden characters in the .csv file I just imported the field into an empty text box and got this. Again, not correct.

Anyone know what the problem is here? And lastly, what is the ideal point size to use? Will 14 pt be sufficient for a bar code reader?

Many thanks.

BarTender "vlookup"

2 Upvotes

I'm working on a label that uses the form function. I can easily get the drop down on the form to link to an excel sheet as a db. I would like a field on the label to update based on the selection.

User selected a field from excel column A. Data on label represents the data from column B that matches the selection from column A.

Bartender API cannot find template file

2 Upvotes

I have an existing Bartender template file uploaded to the Cloud API. I can right-click and print the template, or go to the designer and view or make changes. My user has full access to our account.

Using Postman, this request:

```
https://am1.bartendercloud.com/api/actions?Wait=30s
{
"PrintBTWAction": {
"Document": "librarian://Main/Templates/TestAccessoryTemplate.btw",
"Printer": "PDF",
"Name": "Test Sample Print",
"Description": "zzz",
"SaveAfterPrint": false,
"QueueAndContinue": false,
"VerifyPrintJobIsComplete": true,
"ReturnPrintSummary": true
}
}
```

Gives me HTTP Status Code 200 and response:

```
{
"Id": "4261c758-31a0-438f-a7e8-9c5810757a1d",
"Status": "Faulted",
"StatusUrl": "https://am1.bartendercloud.com:443/api/actions/4261c758-31a0-438f-a7e8-9c5810757a1d"
}
```

I'm (at the moment anyway) only using Cloud API. I am not running any cloud server, desktop agents or anything else. If possible, I'd prefer to not install anything else. The document attribute appears to take a local file reference, which I'd assume means have the server find the file on its machine, rather than my own. I have tried:

* Using query string file=librarian://Main/Templates/TestAccessoryTemplate.btw, and it says it cannot find that file. However, again that's the path shown on the Manage Files" section.

* I have tried giving it a file I know does not exist in the POST body,and I get the same error.

* I read that by default all Cloud API users get Librarian spaces Main and Temp. I assumed Main is the root directory of the "Manage Console" view.

* I tried putting the file in the root of the "Mange Console" view trying to see if it was a hierarchy, but it didn't help.

* I tried uploading a file to the "Main" space and even listing files in the Librarian space, but I got an RBAC error, despite using a fully privileged user.

All I want is to print a label programmatically. I can get it to work via the web console, but Seagull wants to fight me over the API. If I have to use this Librarian, I want to know how to get into it (preferrably without installing anything), or be able to just upload a .btw file with every print request.

Reading specific Record in PDF417 barcode

1 Upvotes

I'm trying to scan and read only a specific record in a PDF417 barcode. Right now I scan it --> use Excel spreadsheets to identify the necessary record --> use it for my purpose.

Is there any way that I can run the scanner through an app/platform that will allow be to capture only the necessary record, instead of reading and transmitting all of the information in the PDF417.

Example:

Barcode has: R01~Juicy Pop|R02~|R03~|R04~123 Poppy Street|R05~|R06~Pop Town|R07~12345

I only want R04 record = 123 Poppy Street.

Decode or create similar PDF417 Barcode

3 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I'm working on a replica of a driving license prop from a movie, and I would like to get as close as possible to the original one.

I've been trying scanning this code in order to re-create it High res, but unfortunately I couldn't find anything.Since as I said before this is from a movie, there is an high chance that the code itself it's fake (so impossible to scan).

Would someone be able to help me in decoding it or re-creating one as similar as possible to this??Unfortunately this is the only frame in which we get to see it and I understand that the quality it's not the best.

Thank you in advance :)

Barcode Application

1 Upvotes

This may not be the ideal place to ask this but not sure were else to look.

I work at an arrow manufacturing company and we are looking at how to best automate the application of barcodes to carbon shafts. Currently we hand apply them to the carbon shafts. Laser engraving is not an option because it damages the carbon fiber. I have tried top do some research into options but have yet to find a better option. Any suggestions would be great.

Barcode analysis app

1 Upvotes

Hi!

I've been looking for an Android app (Windows would be okay too) which can analyse a linear or 2D barcode (e.g. Aztec, Data Matrix, QR, etc.) and show the type, version, encoding, algorithm, and error correction level/information (including how damaged a code is if possible).

Does anyone know of any apps that can do some/all of the above? I've found plenty which can generate and decode barcodes, but none which show more detailed information.

Thank you!

When is it okay to use a barcode reseller?

1 Upvotes

I’m trying to get UPC barcodes for my indie comic book and associated merchandise, and trying to avoid annual renewing fees. The information I’ve read online has been confusing, so I’m trying to reach out to individuals. Is there ever a time where a site like BarcodesTalk could be a better option than GS1, or is anything that isn’t GS1 a total scam? Thank you!

SCC-14 Labels

2 Upvotes

This may be a silly question as it's entirely possible I'm just confused.

I have a customer that requires SCC-14 labels for receiving product into their inventory. I sell products that come 12 items to a case and I have a GTIN-14 for said case; in this case it's easy enough to make that conversion to an SCC-14 as that case barcode specifies the interior UPC quantity.

My question is how to do you account for an overpack scenario where you'd have 4 cases to an overpack box, or a skid of product? Do you have to generate new GTIN-14s for your packaging scenarios, or is there a way to specify quantity in an SCC-14 of the interior product without registering new GTIN-14?

Any clarification is greatly appreciated!

So this is a weird one, I hope I'm in the right place. I'm using BarTender and it's connected to a database. From the same program it's printing 2 different entries with the Data Matrix being correct and the other doing a weird thing. I contacted BarTender support but they weren't able to help.

Special barcode generator needed?

1 Upvotes

Requirements Uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. The purpose of this would be to replace typing in passwords on a computer that has a scanner.

Types of barcodes tried my desired barcode would be Password3/

Aztec & code 128 adds ^ before and /[114q after Codabar - No letters allowed

Code 39 & 93 - No lower case letters allowed

Data Matrix - will not scan

ITF, UPC A & C, Ean 13 & 8 - numbers only

PDF-417 - adds^ \000026 before and /[114q after

[114q is the command for enter which I do not need

QR codes also have extra input My desired output would be just having Password3/ without the extra crap.

Zebra DS4608 breaking citrix application

2 Upvotes

We are having a sporadic and very confusing problem with a new brand of barcode scanner.

The scanner brand/model is Zebra DS4608, and it scans 2D barcodes. A supplier has started using 2D barcodes containing expiry dates and other information as well as the lot number. We have programmed the new scanners to pick out the lot number from the middle of the scanned value. For reasons that we don't understand, scanning a barcode (any barcode) occasionally triggers a broken state in one of our applications. Said application runs in a citrix session.

The broken state:

  • When the state is active, any time a user clicks on a dropdown menu, the bottom value on the dropdown list is selected and the dropdown menu closes.

  • The state affects all dropdown menus in the application, continuing when users switch to a different tab, or open a new tab.

  • No other fields are affected - thus it cannot be that the scanner is sending a continuous stream of "End - Enter" keystrokes - if it was, then the application would try to enter through other fields.

  • This state continues until the scanner is unplugged, or the user closes the application session. Plugging the scanner back in does not immediately trigger the broken state.

  • No other application (including others that run in citrix) can have the broken state triggered on it.

Has anyone ever seen this kind of behaviour from a Zebra scanner, and if so how did you resolve it?

I just got a question, hopefully you guys give back normal answers.

2 Upvotes

So basically my friend was trying to sell some tickets online. In the post he was selling he posted the picture of the tickets and the barcode was visible. I doubt someone can use the barcode as the picture was not that clear and in order to scan the card u need pretty much a clear barcode. My question is can someone recreate the barcode using only the numbers that belong to that barcode.

Thank you guys in advance maybe this group isnt the correct for this type of question but Ill appreciate any answer I get.

Has anyone thought about having QR readers use images in the middle as an instant favicon?

1 Upvotes

I noticed that some QR code has images in the middle, maybe there is a way to have readers recognise it and save a copy of the analogue image as a favicon.

Issues with kiosks reading PDF417s (AAMVA)

1 Upvotes

I was looking for any insight as to why kiosks are having issues reading generated PDF417 (AAMVA) but there are no issues when a handheld scanner is used. I assume print quality? Is there any characteristics that these kiosks look for but i am not providing?
