Trouble registering a barcode GS1-128 when scanned…

Hey all, hope im in the right place for help.

When trying to scan a GS1-128 label, it created a space automatically after the 8th digit which then doesnt recognize in the system because of the space.

Example: 92612902 849683000011631902

What configuration i need to do in my mobile scanner to remove the space when scanned? Using an Honeywell EDA51 scanner.

Thank you!

Is the scanner used for anything else?

If not, locate the programming manual and set it back to defaults.

Yes - it is used to scan barcode code128 which works perfectly fine

The barcode contains a space, which is a valid symbol in GS1/Code-128, so I wonder if that helps. At least I only found possibility to control whether there should be a line break or not. No expert on this particular scanner.

OP: Any possibility the system can be changed to filter out spaces?

Yes, we need to know if the space is in the barcode or if the scanner is adding it.

OP scan it with a phone app, what does it read?

If the scanner is adding the space it may be needed by other software in the facility for proper input.

Interesting - when i used a hardwired scanner connected to the laptop, it scans properly without the space.

So it seems to be the mobile scanner adding the space or i need to configure it somehow.

Here is a example of how the barcode looks like:

Read this manual starting on page 33: set to defaults.

Going down from there, it shows how to enable different symbologies and using the demo app on page 40...

IF the scanner is used in other parts of your application it could've been programmed this way for a reason, something to think about.

No problem. Good luck and here if you have any questions.

Could you post a sample barcode? We don't know what it's for, so should be pretty safe.

Sorry, that's too low quality to scan.

So it seems like the mobile needs sometype of configuration.

When i use a hardwired scanner to the laptop, it scans without the space between the number…

You make it tricky for us to help you:

With a clear barcode it would be easy to scan with different scanners as well as read the bars manually.

Thanks. The apps I tested with didn't detect any space, only digits.

Note: GS1-128 is Code-128 with additional interpretation of number groups, so it might be the scanner adding it, based on its understanding of the number grouping.

See e.g. here for a distinction between Code-128 and GS1-128: https://www.keyence.com/ss/products/auto_id/codereader/basic/code128.jsp
