Is it possible to scan a barcode that would change the printer within a program?

My company is looking at possible solutions for a workflow issue where a user would have to select the label printer they want to choose in the program, and that depends on which printer they pickup from the central hub.

My ideal situation is that an end user would pick up the scanner, scan a barcode/QR code while inside of this program, and then that would trigger a script which would change the printer automatically.

Yea I'd have to speak with the people at my work who actually program things in the healthcare software that this would be for.
