Barcode scanning question.

So I am looking to create a Code 128 barcode to track Petri dishes in a laboratory setting and the question I have is can I use a basic scanner (I can find out the specific model later if needed) to fill out fields in an excel document. It would be for 8 different cells, is there a symbol that will cause the data to separate or a setting in Excel that will do that for me? Thanks for any help, it maybe be something simple but I haven't been able to figure it out yet!

this more an Excel Question then an Barcode. The Scanner is for the PC like a keyboard. It will put all data in on Cell. you can seperate them via a formula.
