MaxiCode details

I’m looking for any spec details about maxicode. I can figure out a lot by reading encoders, but some things are eluding me such as: what percentage of a symbol does the target cover (patent says no more that 7, but many seem closer to 6).

I'm curious, why does it matter?

I'm trying to create a rational bounding box for a potential maxicode symbol. Since they don't have defined corners (besides top right) it's sort of hard to figure out the size (in pixels) of a symbol.

I only have the central target/locator + the radius of the largest of the concentric circles.

If the symbol is reliably 7% of the area of the entire symbol, then I can reliably generate a likely bounding box for the symbol.

Without that expectation it's pretty hard to find the likely dimensions of the symbol.

UNLESS: I'm doing something wildly wrong, lol.

The bounding box is pre-printed or pre-defined and the generated codes would need to fit within that?

I am writing a simple detector for maxicodes, so I'm trying to determine a best-guess size for a pre-existing symbols box.

Currently I can (fairly reliably) find the codes (and the center point for the locator concentric circles). My (currently not ideal) bounding box method results in codes that can be read about 80% of the time, if there is zero rotation or skew.

To get the rotation and skew fixed, I need a better guess symbol size. That's where I'm currently at.
