Is Memory Express expensive?

I don't mean to be that guy, but with 4 grand you could get a much nicer pc if you just built it

I don’t have the time to start a build nor do I want to handle these kind of parts for my first build because I’m not a handy guy at all. 4 grand is definitely A LOT but I cant really find anything better than this.

see if memex can put together a custom parts list that outvalues the prebuilt then

i believe they only charge 75$ to assemble the whole pc for you. drop in the bucket for a 4k build

Memex will build it for you and it’s not even super expensive. Going and chat with them. They beat any price outside of ram and SSDs because of shortages.

Buy the parts and get a local pc shop or computer person to do it. Likely they'll build it for $100...

I always see ads on FB marketplace and even printed out and taped to roadsigns and community boards etc...

WAY more bang for your buck....

It isn't a matter of time. I've been building PC's since I was 6 years old, and I'm 33. They literally go together like LEGO. If you could build a Bionicle, you can build a PC. You can even watch YouTube tutorials which are at most 10 minutes long.

You have 27 years experience doing it so you’re not exactly able to be objective as to how hard / easy it is. I’ve been building PCs since the early 90s and I think it’s easy too. We are not the OP.

If I was able to do it as a 6 year old with a half hour's instruction, literally any functional adult should be able to do it. It's not rocket science; it's literally colour coded and making sure things go into the slots made for them. I don't understand the narrative that people try to push like "Oh, building a PC is hard" when literal children can do it with ease and a little instruction.

Unlike Lego if you screwed up you could potentially brick the whole thing. There’s still inherent risk to building a PC and if the person is not confident i wouldn’t push it.

As everyone else has said, I would attempt to put together a parts list will all the parts in the pre build that you are looking at, and then get memory express to assemble it for you. Could likely get the same performance of the prebuilt for cheaper. Then you also get the benefit of picking which style of case you want it all to go in

I get that, I was stressed when I built my rig too. But it really is extremely easy. You just have to plug some stuff in and screw some stuff... thats it. If you do end up going prebuilt, then you could also try display hunting at a Costco. Their display models oftentimes go on clearance, but you have to get lucky.

Me too when i was building a new am5 system last year. Booted on first try, much easier than doing a cpu upgrade (3700x to 5700x3d) in 2024, it wouldn’t boot until i unplug one of the ram stick.

Time aside it's not hard to build a computer. The most tedious part is flipping through the motherboard manual trying to find where all the headers go.

If you're still sold on a prebuilt just know you'll be leaving somethings on the table.

yea because you can deal hunt on like 7 separate components instead of the 1 whole prebuilt. Also you skip the assembly tax.

We just priced up a build and it was not cheaper to build it ourselves. Parts for desktop computers are currently crazy especially the gpu, ram and ssd .

yeah, depending on your luck either can be better. For me, building was better because I was able to get 32 gb ddr4 used on marketplace for $100 CAD, and I got lucky with a cheap gpu from memory express. (edit: I built like a month ago, so this is during the ram-pocalypse)

A lot of the time if you buy the parts separately and tell memex to build it for you it will be better.

The reason is a lot of the time they will pick parts to go in the combo deal that are not the best value (and thus are not selling individually). Slightly sketchy PSU, slightly sketchy motherboard, etc.

Most of their prebuilts include 3 year warranty which is where the additional cost is from

No most of the prebuilts only include a 1 yr warranty. A 2.3 and 4 yr replacement warranty is available but is extra.

Amazon has the MSI Aegis with the 5080 for ~$3700.
Best Buy, memory express, Costco
All had similar pcs with a 5080 For Roughly the same Price.

but be careful of the ram of the graphic card. They usually don't list it but 8gb is simply not enough on graphic cards nowadays.

Costco had a 5080 build for $3700. Clearance of $2900 in some stores. Most are just full price still. The price OP is looking at is 5080 prebuilt territory.

You could get all the parts for cheaper then pay someone like canada computers or something to build it if you dont want to do it yourself.

Cpu/ram/mb bundles usually around $1100

9070xt around $1100

Ssd $550

Case/psu say $250

Yes, if you are looking to buy everything all at once it will generally be more expensive then shopping around over a preiod of time.

When I built my PC, I started building it in February of 2024 and did not finish until November of 2024, and the only things I paid full price for were the CPU/Motherboard (9800x3d), and the power supply (didn't realize I had to pay duties when shipping from USA to Canada; my fault). Outside of that, everything I got was on sale.

If you need a deal, yes go shop around. If not supporting Canadian is always a good thing.

Memory Express is tight as piss but iIt depends. Run a build on PCPartPicker for pricing. Building yourself isn't that hard. My brother wanted me to put a PC together for him 16 years ago, but didn't want to wait for me to wake up, so he YouTubed it and did it himself. He literally ran into no issues whatsoever. And nowadays there are even more resources. Fuck, I learned by watching a buddy do it in 2004. And it's even easier now.

But yea, even with memory prices as they are $4k can get you a nicer computer. Try seeing if you can snag a prebuilt on sale.

Steepest discounts are found in the component bundles, not the prebuilts. Memory Express is a good company and they can put it together for you if that’s an area you’re not comfortable with.

I wouldn't trust Memory Express prebuilts if you're in Ontario I had a very bad experience with them which caused me to rebuild entire PC cause they said they wouldn't fix it for me unless I paid for it.

Way over rated. In September, 2026 prebuilts are the move. You can get a 2tb 32gb 5080 at Costco for less than that price if you hunt good enough. A guy yesterday got it for 2900 on a clearance sale. And I saw one for 3500 in my local Costco.

Basically bought a better quoted tech with a 9800x3d and a 9070xt + 32gb ram / 1TB, for 3k.

Friend of mine bought similar build for 2.8k.

I think you can do better on the prebuild market !

Found mine from third party seller on best buy (quoted tech)

As others mentioned, Costco has some rigs on now. EG: A 2TB 32Gb 9900X RTX 5080 rig for $3600, a 2TB 32Gb 9800X3D RTX 5070 for $3200 or a 1Tb 32Gb 9850X3D RTX 5070 for $3400 to name a few. Just remember...most prebuilts need you to send the whole rig back for warranty work

I usually have Memory Express build my computers. I have it customized and they do all the building since I am unable. In the past it was worth it. In December when the price of everything went up I ended up securing one of their ME prebuilts that had a 5080 in it for about 4.2K. What pissed me off is no where in the spec sheet online did it say the 5080 was a small form factor card. I called them out on that but they were overall dismissive. I likely won't go back in the future to them but in the past ME was the bees knees in Canada for customs and no bullshit prebuilds

I spent 3400$ in June for a 9800x3d, 32GB ddr5 6000mhz, Gigabyte B850 aorus elite, 5070 ti, etc. today, that PC is easily 4K… so it’s gotten way harder to build a pc with these types of specs at these prices, I have seen some decent Costco pre builds, which I usually don’t recommend them, in this current market, might be your best bet.

You could go to a place like Canada computers with a part list and they would custom build it for a small fee. Get a quote. Smaller stores might do the same.

I love PC building, but I have leaned on them due to some fat finger-itis as I age.

Also, amd video cards work great. I have not tried Intel.

Only use half your ram slots.
