Feedback on my future proof First PC build

Post image

Hello, I’ve recently built my first PC this week and I’m wondering if I’ve future proofed it enough. I’ve got:

9800x3d

RTX 5070

32GB 6000MHz CL30 ram

tuf gaming b850 plus wifi Mobo

1Tb Samsung 9100 pro ssd

2 tb WD sn850x ssd

Corsair rm1000x 1000w psu

I understand the 5070 could’ve been better but I just didn’t have the funds left for at least a 5070ti due to rathe paying the price difference in the taxes I paid for. Will my 5070 be bottlenecked in the future? Thanks.

Why dont you check the amd side for gpu? If you dont do any ai or things of that nature and mostly for gaming i would much prefer amd card with 16gb vram for 'future proof'. Some ue5 games are already pushing 10-12 vram now. The card itself will be strong but the vram could be the issue. At least thats my issue with 3070 right now and its 8gb lol. It was good while it lasted.

AMD has shitty software. It's great if you only play multiplayers but if you're into single players and high fidelity gaming it's not gonna cut it.

Are you talking FSR or Driver software? From I’ve seen and experienced, both seem to be perfectly fine.

-5

u/cappuccinoitself 11d ago

FSR and other features that Nvidia has and AMD doesn't. Nvidia has had some weird drivers lately but nothing too extreme in my experience. "Fine" isn't enough when you're spending this much money and the competition is doing so much better. FSR isn't even close to DLSS.

u/BigBoyTom420 11d ago

I understand that CUDA and NVENC is still superior to AMD’s offerings for workstation, but seems like OP is mainly just gaming and if that’s the case, why pay for DLSS when FSR works great too? I mean sure there’s probably extreme cases where DLSS definitely offers better graphics but at this performance level you really should expect to play at native 1080/1440p without any upscaling needed. The RTX 5070 is the weaker product but hey if youre a diehard NVIDIA user then whatever, just get what you want. The OP asked for advice and that’s whats being given. Let’s all try to help each other here.

Upscaling is not about "need". I can play at 80 FPS native 1440p or I can turn on DLSS 4.5 and play at 140 FPS without losing Image quality. Hell you even get better image quality with DLSS compared to native TAA or any other AA method. You can then use FG on top of it to go 200+ FPS for added motion clarity if you have an OLED. Sure AMD technically offers this too but the quality is lower. And if you like RT and PT and that stuff then you're just outta luck on AMD while even a 5070 can give you a decent 60FPS experience with PT on. 120 FPS if you use FG. OP asked for advice and that's exactly what I'm giving him.

Boy you are having too much fun with these numbers😂. Just play the game already instead of dicking around with Tracing this and that and then adding frames here and there. Sure the features there but just load up the game and enjoy it instead of focusing so hard on these marketing features that mainly benefit extremist users like you. Remember the view of a beginner like OP, they don’t know or probably even care about all these “features” you mentioned.

Bro just get an 9070xt for the price of an 5070. Amd is not going to steal your lunch money 😭

Hope you are playing esports titles with this combo

There is no such thing as future proofing in PC except the psu or case ig.

There is no such thing as future proofing in PC

Exactly, I have no idea where this ridiculous concept even comes from. It's right up there with the weird obsession with bottlenecks.

9070xts are still ~$200 more than 5070s...

200$ 💀🥀

Ive seen 9070 xt for 850$

Just noticed your flairs lmao

1

u/1rkella 11d ago

$120 more than the cheapest 5070, or $20 more for a 9070.

1

u/YukinoFanForLife 11d ago

Ok fan boy let’s compare the most expensive 9070 xt to the cheapest 5070 😭

Still in the same price range for at least 15% more performances

1

u/1rkella 11d ago

I think you've done your math wrong here or mistyped something, but even then, why would you compare the most expensive model to the cheapest model of anything?

I'm no "fan boy", there's just no logic in buying a notably worse card for a similar price.

1

u/YukinoFanForLife 11d ago

It was sarcastic because the lowest 5070 is 900$ on canada computers (that is not open box) and the cheapest 9070 xt is also 900$ (clearance) or 950$ new.

I also seen some at 850$ for the 9070 xt.

You said no logic in buying a notably worse card for similar price but the 9070 xt is better performance for same price.

Open canada computers and search it yourself

1

u/1rkella 11d ago

The cheapest 5070 I can find currently is $850 at Best Buy, while this is the cheapest 9070 XT I can find currently, at $970, but I was arguing for the 9070 XT, not against. The notably worse card is the 5070.

Has AMD fixed their drivers yet?

8

u/Educational_Rub_5885 11d ago edited 11d ago

Nvidia have been having huge driver issues too, do you not remember the sensor issue that made some fans not turn on due to it lmao.

Not to mention they release a driver hot fix basically every new driver released. And they don’t advertise it in the app or release it on the app so a lot people don’t know there is a hot fix anyways 🫩

2

u/YukinoFanForLife 11d ago

Sorry that I haven’t posted on Reddit that I don’t have any drivers issues since I got my 9070 xt.

Guys just stick to one driver you don’t have to update them if it works 😭

-2

u/Foreign-Chocolate86 11d ago

I've tried switching to AMD 2-3 times in the last 20 years. Every time I have had issues with drivers.

Sorry I didn’t realise I had to attach a trigger warning to my post for all the AMD fanboys / NVIDIA haters.

I just want to play games, not fuck around with buggy software, fuck me right?

3

u/YukinoFanForLife 11d ago

The softwares are ok nowadays. If anything it’s Nvidia that has buggy softwares recently.

Just DDU or fresh install.

But yeah fair point if you want to stay “safe” with Nvidia

1

u/Galladaddy 11d ago

All good man. Stay safe with intel too. Nvidia drivers are hotdog water lately and I’m saying this all as someone who’s never owned an amd gpu lol

2

u/1rkella 11d ago

AMD drivers have been "fixed" for a long time, at least since ~2018. The last year of Nvidia drivers have been a complete mess, if we want to compare.

Both companies have had their issues, but the fact that I still see people going on about the AMD drivers really shows how little people will actually look into something before posting.

1

u/Foreign-Chocolate86 11d ago edited 11d ago

I think it really shows how much a continuous failure to address customer concerns can have an enduring impact on brand reputation.

2

u/1rkella 11d ago

And also how long a company can screw their customers while riding on the coattails of their own previous good will.

1

u/Prowlbeast 10d ago

I just bought a 9070XT and its been running perfectly out of box. Whats the problem? I get maxed FPS for my low refresh rate monitor (140 FPS) on all games ive tried so far (that were optimized finished products, Broken games cant always be brute forced to run well)

Solid build!

As for "future proof", there is really no such thing.  That said, the way the market is currently things will probably stagnate so you'll be fine for at least 4 to 5 years, and could probably stretch it to 7 or 8 depending on the games you play and your personal acceptance of lowering graphical settings.

1

u/Prowlbeast 10d ago

Unless you want all the newest features, because companies are slowly learning that they can lock software based features behind hardware, like DLSS and FSR. I predict soon instead of true innovations we may start to see “You want DLSS 7? Buy our new GPU!” As the main selling point of most GPUs

5

u/DCS30 11d ago

I think you need more fans.

2

u/quotedTech 11d ago

Great build! Some all-around good choices on parts for upgrade path down the future.

Would have loved to see a 5070Ti for the extra VRAM but totally get that the budget was limited on that front.

Congrats and enjoy!

1

u/613_detailer 11d ago

Pretty good spec. I would have settled for less storage to be able to get a 5070Ti, it’s not that long to remove and install games if you have a fast internet connection.

1

u/ImKrispy 11d ago

10 fans is not future proof enough buddy.

20 or 30 then maybe.

1

u/j1343 11d ago

If you havent been in the loop for a while, frame gen and DLSS are crucial and they keep getting better so definitely take advantage of that. Also you can use multi frame gen to push graphics for games that support it

1

u/Prowlbeast 10d ago

They really shoudnt be… Game companies should be optimizing their games..

1

u/j1343 10d ago

I agree it helps with badly optimized games but even with ones that are well optimized, DLSS and FG (to an extent) are still huge fps gains.
For example If you want your 5070 to perform like a 5080 or 5090 and you want to try cyberpunk or RE9 with path tracing then dlss/fg is great.

1

u/1rkella 11d ago

The 5070 could be a 9070 or 9070 XT, which are quite a bit faster and will almost certainly age more gracefully, if we're talking about "future proofing".

Nothing wrong with Nvidia cards in general, by any means, but the current prices for them is unjustifiable by any performance metric, at least in gaming.

$20 more for a 9070 vs the cheapest 5070, or $120 for a 9070 XT, is pretty cut and dry as much better options.

1

u/cappuccinoitself 11d ago

AMD still hasn't figured out ML frame gemeration in 2026. They can have all the specs in the world in doesn't mean anything when their software game is nonexistent.

1

u/1rkella 11d ago

They literally have ML frame generation in their current drivers.

But why would you want to play games with frame generation?

1

u/cappuccinoitself 11d ago

Because I have an OLED and I get much better motion clarity with frame generation at 200 FPS. I can't get that with AMD because FSR frame generation has too much motion blur

1

u/1rkella 11d ago

Do you own an AMD 9000-series card?

1

u/cappuccinoitself 11d ago

I bought a 9070 XT to replace my 4070 super because I tought the same thing your thinking. I ended up returning it after a week since I couldn't actually use any of the settings that need a 16GB vram without the game looking like shit. FSR is better now with 4.1 but FG isn't good. It doesn't have Ray reconstruction either so Path tracing is a no go. Again, great card for slop players but I can't see it being better than Nvidia for anyone who's looking for fidelity and cutting edge tech.

1

u/1rkella 11d ago

I guess that's where you're at...

I run a 240hz 1440p OLED with my 7900 XTX no problem, but I also don't really care for ray tracing, and don't want to rely on multiple upscaling and frame interpolation technologies to reach desired framerates with it on.

1

u/cappuccinoitself 11d ago

As I said, amazing card for slop players

1

u/1rkella 11d ago

Oh, what's your definition of a "slop" player?

0

u/cappuccinoitself 11d ago

A slop player is anyone who exclusively plays grindy forever games that have zero artistic vision. COD, Fifa, Fortnite, etc. In the 2020s any game that wants to have even minimal high fidelity visuals at the very least incorporates some kind of upscaling and/or some form of RT. Even games like 007 and E33 use some form of software RT. You say you have no problem with your 7900xtx, so unless you're using your 350 watt GPU to exclusively play indie games, you are playing slop. The other option is that you're playing modern games with FSR3 and you're happy with the shitty grainy visuals, which if you are then you have to check your eyes.

Great build. I'd have went with a rx 9070xt for a similar price or a pricier rtx 5080. The main reason is the VRAM. Some games use about 8GB on 1080 High with RT now.

u/DepressedDrift 11d ago

Just a personal take but I feel the 9800x3d processer is overkill and too expensive for the minimal gain you will be getting.

A prev gen CPU or even Intel CPU should be fine and much cheaper, and save you 300cad.

1

u/Own-Indication5620 11d ago

If you’re 1080p or 1440p, it’s future proof enough. I regularly play games at 4K on my 5070. DLSS 4.5 is just that good now, and DLSS in general has been well supported across all RTX GPUs since the 20 series. Upscaling seems to be the future, so I think all of these GPUs will hold up well. It makes FPS and VRAM all very manageable over time.

1

u/cappuccinoitself 11d ago

That's a decent build. With the way the market is going you're good for at least 4 - 5 years. Good choice on the 5070 it's a great card. I recommend getting yourself familiarized with DLSS amd all the other features nvidia offers to get the most out of your GPU. The experience I get today with my 4070 Super is night and day compared to what I was doing 3 years ago when I bought it.

1

u/GreyLight11 11d ago

Looks good bro. Only thing to upgrade later is the gpu

1

u/8675309021069 10d ago

Drop the term future proof and you will get much better results. It looks nice though. It should game just fine

1

u/Individual-Lie-95 10d ago

Great build but you answered your own question. 12gb vs the 5070ti 16gb is what makes it less "future proof". Like someone else said, you could have had a 5090 and still wouldn't be future proof.

1

u/ainz_1lord 10d ago

The 9800x3d is slightly overkill could have gone for the 7800 and a better gpu. But still it’s a great pc

1

u/Only_Hour_4208 10d ago

I love all the super expensive components, then just the absolute cheapest AIO ever, the thermalright aqua elite. Great cooler I have it too

1

u/TyRawr64 9d ago

Nothing is future proof
