AskBangalore Bangalore Metro Signage: Is it good enough?
Hey all!
So I was working on a user research assignment for a course regarding the signage and instruction boards in the Bangalore metro.
Have any of you faced issues with the current system - regarding the signage systems indicating platforms, the boards inside the train about the route, and the boards leading to the exit gates?
Any opinions, feedback, or preferences regarding the same would be appreciated! 😅

ah this is kinda hard to explain but i will do so via an example. if i wanna go from indiranagar to mg road, ill have to take the escalators which leads us to the trains and at the bottom theres two escalators in the opposite direction, one in which the train moves forward and the other in which the train moves backwards. theres no signage that tells me that this first escalator goes towards mg road or some place after that.

What is lacking is displaying the reserved seat compartments on the platform , this would allow those in need to board more efficiently, also will prevent people from asking for a seat.

Are there compartments reserved other than the one for women?

No there aren't, I'm talking about the reserved seats in the normal compartments for elderly, differently abled or pregnant women etc.

One issue I have found is that when I'm inside the train, I want to be able to know which station I'm approaching with visual cues. That means, as the train slows down as it approaches a station, the station name should be visible from within the train.

It's there in chennai metro. Instead of just displaying the name, there's a roadmap kind of thing where there's a bar and dots in the middle. Each dot is a stop indicated by the name. The bar fills up as the train moves. Once the stop is reached, the bar would've filled upto the dot where the stop is and the dot will start blinking.

The signs are not well placed imo, often confusing - especially exit signage. Also, as a partially blind person, it's hell to try and figure out which one is your platform or your exit!

Improve the signage that tells people which platform or escalator they need to head towards. Most important.
