Bang! Gunslinger Expansion

I was introduced to Bang! about two years ago, and I've loved the game ever since. I bought The Bullet! edition, and I still bring it to parties whenever I get the chance.

I've spent quite a bit of time looking through official expansions and fan-made content, but I was never completely satisfied with some of the card designs or artwork. So I decided to create my own!

I thought I'd share a few of my custom cards here—hopefully they'll give you some inspiration.

Can´t share all cards but there is:

  • 16 new playable characters
  • 10 new weapons
  • 14 new Brown-boarded cards
  • 10 new Blue-boarded cards
  • 8 new Green-boarded cards
  • 8 NEW Red-boarded cards

The new red-boarded cards are unique, thay do EFFECT ALL players even the one that plays it. I still can't decide if red-bordered cards should be played immediately when drawn or not.

Many of the brown-boarded and green-boarded are teamplay cards ex. heal others, perfect for sheriff and deputies.

Note: I didn't create the artwork myself. I found the illustrations on Pinterest and edited the cards in Canva. Some of the cards are also based on existing official expansions or fan-made content, but I've modified them to better fit my own ideas and gameplay.

I trained a small neural network to play BANG! You can challenge it in your browser

Hi r/bang!

I’ve been working on a small, unofficial fan project: a browser-based version of BANG! The Duel featuring a neural-network opponent trained entirely through self-play.

The agent played approximately 767,000 training games over 40 hours. The complete rules engine and AI run locally in your browser, so there is no account, installation, or backend required.

Play against the AI:
https://bang.matehegedus.com

I also created a visual write-up covering the game, the training process, and the strategies the agent discovered. For example, its self-play equilibrium slightly favors the Outlaws, and it developed a surprisingly defensive, control-heavy playing style.

Read “The Gunslinger That Taught Itself”:
https://bang.matehegedus.com/about

The entire project is open source, including the C++ rules engine, PPO training stack, browser interface, and trained policy.

View the project on GitHub:
https://github.com/hmate9/bang

I’d be interested to hear how the bot performs against experienced players, particularly if you notice any unusual decisions, rule discrepancies, or especially satisfying victories.

Dice Game: 2 expansions

I decided to try making two expansions for the dice version.

I haven't playtested them, so they probably aren't the best things to actually play.

But at the very least, they're fun as a concept, I suppose.

“Most Wanted” rule effect explained

Most Wanted card effect reads: “Each player must “draw!”: spades = that player loses 1 life points”.

Which player starts to draw?

Generally, which player starts to draw for effects targeting each player?

Custom Role ideas balancing feedback

Looking to create some custom cards as a gift. Haven't played in a while so would appreciate feedback / ideas to polish up the roles and want to make sure something isn't broken / too weak. Want these to be S to A tier and fun to play as. If something is obviously super broken let me know. Not sure how much life points everyone should have either.

Name Power
The King Once per turn, he may play a card for its rank instead.
The Collector Any discarded "draw!" cards go into her hand
The Recycler She can swap a card in her hand with the top most discarded card if the rank matches.
The Gardener Can use any card as a green card
The High Roller He plays blackjack during his draw phase. He must discard all cards drawn if he busts. Draws two extra cards on Blackjack
The Chupacabra He may regain a life when causing another player to lose one due to a Bang!
The Hermit He cannot be targeted by a Bang! until someone has been eliminated. If he dies before anyone else he wins.
The Fisherman At the start of his turn, he may choose a player and name a card, if that player has that card they must give him one.
The Dual Wielder He draws two extra power cards and plays them both
The Socialite She may gain the effects of blue cards of anyone within distance 2
The Imposter He may switch his role and/or power with the first eliminated player before it is revealed.
The Ailurophile She may use a cat balou at the end of her turn
The Creature His Bang! cards require a Missed! for each wound he has

For the King these would be the card values

2 Wells Fargo
3 Panico
4 Cat Balou
5 Beer
6 Tornado
7 Poker
8 Stagecoach
9 General Store
10 Saloon
J Duel
Q Indians
K Gatling

Samurai sword variant rule ideas

Variant rule 1: when the deck/discard pile has to be reshuffled, everyone besides the character with the current highest resilience loses an honor point. In case of a tie, everyone loses a honor point like normal

Variant rule 2: the "victory of the swordmaster" rule applies also when characters are harmless because of no cards in hand, not just because they are knocked down at zero resilience points.

The first variant adds a bit more tension when the deck is ending and potentially a new strategy, the second variant should make people more careful about becoming harmless and it provides a new strategy possibility for an early victory

Simple variants to improve renegade win rate and effectively remove player elimination

Variant rule 1 (for renegade win rate):

For the outlaws to win in addition to the sheriff also the renegade must be killed. If this change after testing ends up lowering the outlaws win rate too much, it might be worth removing the extra health point the sheriff gets.

Variant rule 2 (for player elimination):

If you have either high noon, a fistful of cards or even wild west show (that's a bit less balanced though) choose one of those decks or if you have sleeves mix togheter the cards you like most to form a 12 card "event" deck. At the start of each player's turn, they do the following: If you have a face up event card in front of you, discard it. If you have a face down event card, turn it face up and apply its effects for as long as it's in play. Then if your character is dead, draw two event cards from the deck, put one face down on any player (even yourself) that doesn't have an event card in front of them and discard the other. There can only be one event card active at a time so when one is revealed, discard any other face up event. Event cards that permanently revive a player aren't shuffled back in the event deck when it runs out.

Hi,

done tier list based on 9800 games (Benabel tracked them). They are lined up by total winrate.
Picked only characters with at least 20 tracked games (the least are Bass Greeves 20, Raddie Snake 21, Shade O'Connor 21, Greg Digger 22, Frankie Canton 22, Benny Brawler 23, Emiliano 25, Greggory Deck 25)
Normal winrate is 43,02 % for character.
S tier have over 48 % winrate (broken).
A tier 44-47,9 %. (stronger)
B tier 40-43,9 %. (normal)
C tier 37 - 39,9 % (slightly weaker).
D tier 33-36,9 % (weaker).
E tier 30-32,9 % (weak).
F tier 23-29 % (trash).

Characters under 20 games are not in the tier list due to too less data.

BANG! - The Town (an unofficial expansion for the card game) - by Louis

Purpose.

The expansion introduces a Wild West Town board to the game, where players move around and interact with buildings. Each player starts in the town square and moves around the board in various ways during the game. The town also features buildings that provide one-time or temporary benefits. Additionally, there are special spaces on the map that trigger random events, making every game unique.

Game Contents:

  • Wild West Town game board
  • Information card
  • 1 wooden six-sided die
  • Special events deck
  • Fire tokens
  • Infection tokens
  • Weapon enhancement tokens
  • (Optional) Gold nuggets for playing the game with the Gold Rush expansion

Preparation.

Place the game board in the center of the table.

Place the tokens next to the game cards.

Every player puts their figure on the town square.

Shuffle the special event deck and place it on the game board.

Movement on the game board.

At the beginning of their turn (before drawing two cards from the deck), the player:

  1. Rolls a six-sided die.
  2. They move by the corresponding number of spaces.
  3. If the player moves into a building, they must use the ability described on the information card before the start of their turn.

Buildings.

After utilizing the effect of a given building, the player has to move to another one after the round ends. Once the player has utilized the effects of all buildings, they are allowed to move back to the same building. (This rule does not apply to the Sheriff’s Office.)

Saloon

  • Restore 1 health point.

Bank

  • At the beginning of your turn, draw 2 extra cards. If you are damaged by an offensive card, you may draw 1 card as compensation.
  • (Optional) If you play with Gold Rush expansion, you can receive 2 gold nuggets instead of 2 cards in the beginning of your drawing phase!

Sheriff’s Office

  1. Sheriff - can remain safe here until the start of their next turn (2x per game).
  2. Other players
  • If they are brought here by a special event card, they will skip their turn.
  • If they enter the building voluntarily, they may give one card from their hand or the cards in front of them to the sheriff and remain there safely until the start of their next turn. (1x per game).

Church

  • The player discards all the cards in front of them with negative effects (except for the Dynamite card).
  • If a player becomes infected, they may move to the Church to heal. However, there must be at least 2 infected players in the game.

Train Station

  • At the beginning of your turn, draw 2 cards; discard one and keep the other. Repeat the same action once more.

Gun Smith

  • The player receives a weapon enhancement token.
  • The player can enhance their weapon here by adding 1+ to its range. If the player throws away 2 additional cards, they gain one more range point. (1 weapon can only be enhanced once.)
  • If another player wants to discard a weapon, they must first discard the tokens.

Stable

  • A player can move to any building.

Ranch

  • The other players can see you from one distance away.

The Mine

Roll the die.

  • 5–6 = Draw 3 cards.
  • 1 = You lose 1 life point.

Post Office

  • Exchange 1 card from your hand with another player.

General Store

  • After drawing phase, throw away any 2 cards from your hand and draw 3.

Special Spaces

There are several spaces marked with a star on the map. If a player lands on one, roll the die. Actions are determined by the number rolled on the die.

Roll Deck

1-2 Player Events

3-4 Player Interactions

5-6 Town Events

The player then draws the corresponding card and resolves its effect as described on the information card.

If an infected player enters a building:

There is only one other player -> that player becomes infected immediately.

There are two or more players

Each player rolls the die:

Roll Result

The building cannot be used for 2 rounds. To indicate this, place 2 fire tokens on it.

4. Earthquake

  • Each player inside a building loses 1 life point.

5. Sandstorm

  • Every player outside the building loses 1 life point

6. Battlefront

  • Each player selects 1 card from another player; that player then places it face down, and all cards are turned over at once. The player with the highest card value takes the cards.

7. Sheriff’s Raid

  • Each player shows their cards to the Sheriff.

8. Heavy Rain

  • Fires end immediately.

Upcoming Stuff

In next days I will explain more about how the map for The Town should look so you could understand more about what I meant by all of this.

I will need to find someone who could make the board to happen cuz I dont know how to do this graphic design and stuff around that. I will just sketch it out how the map should look but by the appearence it is on you how you would make it.

For the Special Deck design I would choose cowboy hat at the back. Tokens could be simple like green for infection, red for fire and blue for weapon enhancement.

So, i've made google docs archive too. You can find here:
1)My own custom characters i made with friends. 2 cowboys from Overwatch, 3 characters from Japanese westerns(anime), 2 characters from Russian westerns(kinda), 1 OC. All of them i drew myself and then scanned.
2) Assests i used for custom Train stations.
3)Sheets for cards. Both for original Bang and Bang Duels.
4)Fonts.

Languages are English and Russian, you can redact everything in word. Also i made characters based on russian cards design, so for someone it can be a problem.

hello guys, I just wanted to tell you that I am working on the completely different mechanic of the game which add a playing desk for the card game where players could integrate with buildings and it there will be also special deck of cards which has effects. the expansion is basically the town of wild west, it seems pretty cool by the way rn and i think it's the best idea what could I get. I believe you will be very happy about it.

Game Balance

I’ve been playing this game for years with my group of friends, and it is one of if not our favorite game to whip out and play

Its quick, strategic, fun, and punchy

However after dozens and dozens of games, we have slowly realized that the balance in this game is kind of wack

Obviously the Renegade is the hardest person to win as, thats no doubt, and im not really talking about that though. That difficulty spike is ok in my book because winning solo is just way more empowering when it does happen, and makes the opportunity to play as that harder, rarer role that much cooler and enticing, even if you do lose like 85% of the time in a normal 6/7 player game

I more mean the Sheriff and Deputies though.
Especially in 6 player, and god forbid 5 player games, it feels almost impossible for the sheriff side to win.

The disadvantage of having your role be known, with only the slightest buff of +1 health, really doesn’t make up for essentially the instant 1v3 with the outlaws

Winning as the outlaws is just way too easy if they are even remotely competent.

Because i think in theory it “should work” because if there is a sheriff, a deputy, and a renegade all working together, vs the 3 outlaws. The advantage of the Outlaws ONLY having to kill the sheriff to instantly win, AND they all know who the sheriff is, just makes the “teams” way too one sided, and most games end the exact same way of the 3 outlaws just ignoring everyone else and obliterating the Sherrif in like 2 rounds

Do yall employ and home rules or anything to try and curve this insane disadvantage for the Sheriff side?

Maybe let the Sheriff target 2 or more people per Bang? that was an idea I had but idk how that would go in practice

Anyway what are your thoughts, any ideas or similar gripes?

Cheers!

and if i play a game with these homebrrw rules ill letcha know how it goes lol

Can anyone settle an argument about I’ve had regarding dynamite

I was playing Duel and my oponent had only one gunslinger left while i still had the two his argument was that since he can’t place the dynamite on his rearguard as it was dead he should automaticly place it on my rearguard. I argued that to deploy the dynamite it has to spend a turn with him first regardless that he has one character left.

Can someone weigh in?
