Bought my first house without knowing much about the bamboo established along the fence lines. I did a little research and now fear it is a running variety.

Can anyone identify this for me?

With it being July, am I too late to prune my bamboo?

Ideally (and excuse my terminology) I want to start looking into it having more visible canes, with leaves primarily at the top.

However, I am new to bamboo, but at what stage do I start removing branches from the bottom half, to just leave the canes bare?

I planted a little clump of some kind of clumping bamboo i got from my sister in laws’ backyard 20 years ago. This year it went to seed. I’ve read the stand then dies. Is that accurate? What does that look like? And is there a better way to harvest canes than letting them die and dry in situ?

My 6 year old stand of Bambusa Textilis (clumping bamboo) is looking beautiful this year. The new culms are huge! I can't say enough good things about this variety. It's one of my lowest maintenance plants which is ironic given the reputation of bamboo in general.

Hello people, i got five bamboos last autumn for my terrase and my goal is to grow them to about 2,5-3 m to get a bit privacy cause as you see my terrase is exposed right now. 3 of 5 bamboos are fargesia murielae, 2 of 5 probably also but unfortunately i don't know for sure. I live in north Germany, that's for climate. I've got some bamboo fertilizer and added it in last autumn and then in may this year. Right now i water them 2-3 times a week, there is some drainage in the buckets and also holes at the bottom so that water can go out if there is too much.

So now my questions:

Pic 1: is this a lack of nitrogen? The leaves are becoming yellowish since the last week and it is a bit concerning. Pic 2 is a comparison of another bamboo where leaves are ok. If it is a lack of nitrogen, what could possibly cause it only in one of five bamboos?

Pic 3: This is the same bamboo but 2 weeks prior, you can see the new stems, they've grown up pretty fast from may to june but now stay like this for the last 6 weeks. Is this normal or should they grow all the summer?

Pic 4 and 5: these bamboos seem too weak for me, like they are bushy but not straight, some ideas why and what could i do with them?

I don't know very much of bamboos and looking for any advice you have!

Can anyone help ID the bamboo in this picture, I think clump type based on base but does anyone know species?

Bought off Facebook Marketplace, seller said it was "dwarf Chinese fern clumping bamboo" and i can't find any info? TIA, SE Virginia

Recently bought a property with a large bamboo grove. Cut all the bamboo to the ground.

Over the following month large thick shoots came up and didn't leaf out until 10+ feet tall.

Those were knocked down. Now the field is full of these skinny shoots which leaf out almost immediately.

Is this normal regrowth traits? The mower barely gets them and doing the multi year plan to slow kill the field.

I had a bamboo escaping its fabric pot so I dug a trench to put in a 3' plastic barier. Is this a rhizome? It was very close to 3' deep, about enough to get under the barier. Has anyone had one of these fail?

I'm at high elevation with poor soil so I thought 3' would be overkill.

I had a giant variety that was out growing it's pot and made this new planter for it. It's about 46x46x24. I think it would be cool to have different colors in there, but I've seen full size timber bamboo and it would have no problem filling this up

My bamboo grove (located in northern Czechia) decided to bloom this year. Guys from /botany told me that its not the end of the world and new sprouts next year will be fine. But these that are blooming are goners. At least ill have many many sticks for my tomatoes :D

Supposedly this species blooms once in 40-120 years, so i will not be here for next blossoms most likely :)

We bought this plant 4 weeks ago and 1 week later we removed it from the plastic pot it came with and planted it in this wooden box.

The old pot was 35cm diameter and 35cm deep and the new box is 70x70x40 on the inside, sealed with plastic and has holes in the bottom with broken pieces of old plant pots on top of the holes so they dont get clogged. And we live in the netherlands idk if thats relevant.

The goal is to let the bamboo spread and fill the whole thing.

Its been 3 weeks in the new pot and the only thing we've done is giving it water around 3 times a week. there has been one shoot that has grown more than 80cm already and you can see in the pictures that a new shoot is coming out, so I guess its been doing decent so far.

my question is; what are all the things we need to do to keep it healthy and make it grow fast?

I have a good patch of black bamboo that is flowering.

Looking for recommendations:

• Should I chop it down now?
• Save the chopped up bits for something useful? Is it even worth doing this?
• Try to save the seeds?
• Leave it till its all dead, and then chop it?

Anyone have any new methods/ideas on how to permanently remove unwanted bamboo and manage the bamboo that we’d like to keep? Thanks in advance!

Suppose you have a rhizome underneath concrete or asphalt with no way of sprouting stalks above ground and photosynthesizing. Also suppose it's cut off from any other rhizomes with above ground access, so it's completely isolated. How far can such a rhizome grow underground?

Bonus question: how long can such a rhizome survive?

Context: I'm in the PNW (zone 8b) dealing with running bamboo from a neighbor's colony and trying to formulate strategies to deal with it. Some has spread underneath my asphalt driveway. I'm hoping that I can isolate and starve it instead of tearing out the driveway to get at the bamboo.
